Taurean Prince supports Davis Bertans’ decision to sit out NBA’s restart

Davis Bertans has decided he will not play for the Washington Wizards if the NBA resumes 2019-20 at Disney World in late July.

With Davis Bertans out for the remainder of 2019-20, the Washington Wizards are going to have a much tougher time forcing a play-in game against either the Brooklyn Nets or Orlando Magic — nevermind slide into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, or even the seventh.

But while this is a decision that hurts the Wizards playoff chances, it’s also a safe move for Bertans.

The Latvian Laser is a free agent after this season. Being one of the league’s best 3-point shooters, Bertans could fetch a big payday — maybe even more so than Brooklyn’s Joe Harris. Having dealt with two ACL injuries in the past, Bertans participating in the league’s restart may put the sharpshooter at greater risk of injury.

Among those who support Bertans’ decision is Nets forward Taurean Prince, who wrote on Twitter:

Smart play. Secure ya future! Nothing is promised in this cruel world we live in.

Spencer Dinwiddie had something to say about Bertans’ decision, as well. Though, the Brooklyn guard was looking more at the possible ripple effect:

But what happens when they lock us out and try to drop the cap to 90M in spite of all the revenue we regained in Orlando? I’m assuming FA gets dicey. But then, So would… *gasp* … my extension
