Tar Heels stand pat in latest Women’s Hoops AP Poll

UNC’s 15-point victory over UNCG on Wednesday night snapped a 3-game losing streak. On Tuesday, UNC stayed put in the latest AP Poll.

After winning their first five games of the campaign, the UNC women’s basketball team has endured an early cold streak.

Carolina lost its final two games of the Gulf Coast Showcase to Kansas State (63-56) and Florida Gulf Coast (65-64), then led top-seed South Carolina before collapsing late. All three of the Tar Heels’ losses are against strong opponents, but it hurts not coming away with a win against any of them.

Despite this stretch, UNC is still in a strong position with non-conference play wrapping up later this month.

Carolina stayed put at 24th in the latest AP Poll, one spot ahead of Penn State and a slot behind Gonzaga. With its 81-66 victory over UNCG on Wednesday night, UNC could move further up in the near future.

The Tar Heels will spend their Sunday in Connecticut, taking on one of the country’s best teams in UConn at 5 p.m. UNC will return home on Friday, Dec. 15 for an easier challenge in Western Carolina, play Oklahoma in the Jumpman Invitational on Tuesday, Dec. 19 in Charlotte, N.C., then have a 12-day break before hosting Clemson on New Years’ Eve.

This next stretch continues a tough one for UNC, as three of its next four games are against opponents with above-.500 records.
