The good news just keeps piling on for the UNC football program.
Carolina is 6-0 for the first time since 1997, its most recent win coming in the form of a 41-31 triumph over Miami (FL) on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Tar Heels have now beaten five Power 5 opponents in their first five games, most coming with relative ease.
It’s now Sunday, with fans anxiously awaiting the latest AP Poll. Good news – it’s out.
UNC rose two spots in this week’s poll to 10th, its first time being a Top 10 team since 2021. Carolina is one of four ranked ACC teams – behind Florida State (four), but ahead of Duke (16) and Louisville (21).
One of the more surprising aspects of the Tar Heels’ ranking is not where they’re ranked – but who they leapfrogged. UNC is one spot ahead of college football’s best historical team – Alabama (11), who barely squeaked by an unranked Arkansas squad at home.
If Carolina plays well again next weekend in a home clash with Virginia, there’s a chance it could move up even further. Undefeated Ohio State (3) and Penn State (7) play in Columbus next weekend – the loser will drop a few spots, if not out of the Top 10.
