Tar Heels fall again in latest NET rankings after loss to Louisville

The UNC basketball program continues to fall in NET rankings.

The North Carolina Tar Heels didn’t get the 2025 calendar year off to a good start. Instead, they found themselves searching for more answers following a tough loss on the road at Louisville.

With North Carolina’s struggles starting to mount, they find themselves at 8-6 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. They haven’t taken advantage of Quad 1 opportunities which has certainly hurt their NCAA Tournament resume. And the latest NET rankings are reflecting that.

North Carolina is now ranked No. 46 in the rankings, down four spots from where they were on Wednesday going into the game against Louisville. The Tar Heels did go to 47 but climbed a spot with some results on Thursday night.

Still, it’s not a place you want to be at this point in the season.

While the Tar Heels are 4-0 in Quad 3 games and 2-0 in Quad 4 games, they are just 2-6 in Quad 1 games. They won’t have many more opportunities left in ACC play either, so stacking as many wins as they can is going to have to happen for them to feel good about their NCAA Tournament chances.

That starts Saturday against Notre Dame, a road game following by a home game against SMU on Monday night.
