Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels are looking for back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference titles but hope to take their season a little further this time in the NCAA Tournament.
Despite North Carolina losing three starters from last year’s team, they return three key backcourt players including reigning ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis. Both Elliot Cadeau and Seth Trimble join him and the program welcomes in a three-player recruiting class as well as a two-player transfer portal class.
So where do the Tar Heels rank right now in the ACC?
Andy Patton of College Sports Wire offered his updated ACC power rankings for the upcoming season and has UNC at No. 2 behind only Duke:
2023-24 Record: 29-8 (17-3)
NCAA Tournament Seed: 1
Key Departures: Armando Bacot, Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan, Paxton Wojcik
Key Additions: Cade Tyson, Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, Ven-Allen Lubin
The Tar Heels do have some questions to answer and have to find a way to replace some production from three starters. The good news is that they still have experience and found a sharpshooter in the transfer portal.
The additions of Ian Jackson and Drake Powell should help boost their lineup despite being just freshmen. Davis’ team does have a high ceiling as of right now but repeating as ACC champs will be a tough task.
