Tar Heels’ Armando Bacot to return to Chapel Hill for 5th season

Bacot was named a third-team All-American after averaging 15.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and one block.

North Carolina Tar Heels center Armando Bacot on Wednesday told Jeff Goodman of Stadium that he will return to school for a fifth and final year next season.

Bacot was named a third-team All-American this season after averaging 15.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and one block on 55.4% shooting from the field. He missed time due to an ankle injury as the Tar Heels failed to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

He is the Tar Heels’ career leader in rebounds and double-doubles and is one of eight players to average a double-double in points (13.7) and rebounds (10.1) in their career.

Bacot told Stadium a key factor in returning for one more year was to help the Tar Heels make the NCAA Tournament and go on a deep run again. He wants to try to go out on top next season as a fifth-year senior after the program opted against competing in the NIT.
