If you were looking at standout performances in college baseball over the weekend, few teams played better than UNC.
Not only did the Diamond Heels (25-4, 10-2) sweep an opponent over the weekend, but that opponent was Wake Forest (17-10, 3-8), the Preseason Number One team who was one game away from the College World Series final last year.
North Carolina held off a late Demon Deacons rally to win Game One, 6-5. UNC came back from an early deficit to win Game Two, 10-6, then exploded for 14 more runs in Sunday’s win.
In their Easter weekend series, the Diamond Heels set a program record by mashing 14 home runs. This was the highest number in a 3-game weekend series during the Super Regional era (since 1999).

Parks Harber’s four home runs, which gave him 10 on the season, earned him ACC, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game Player of the Week honors. Cook now has nine for the year and leads UNC with 43 RBIs, while Luke Stevenson’s three tie him with Vance Honeycutt and Alberto Osuna at eight overall.
As baseball season goes on and players face more live pitching, the bats tend to heat up.
That is certainly the case with UNC, which is tied for 10th nationally with 51 team home runs.
