Tale of the Tape: Leading Receivers – Michael Mayer vs. Jordan Addison

You might notice a couple of surprises when comparing the top receivers for Notre Dame and USC.

You might notice a couple of surprises when comparing the top receivers for Notre Dame and USC. Then again, you probably won’t be so surprised when you consider the context. [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag] is the best tight end the Irish have ever had, so it’s natural that [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag] will look to him ahead of any of his natural receivers. Of course, when you make that decision pay off almost every time the ball is thrown in your direction, you’re earning those opportunities.

The aforementioned context comes into play with the discussion of the Trojans’ Jordan Addison. On the surface, it appears that this matchup is relatively even. Then, you remember that Addison has a Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback named Caleb Williams, so his numbers might be lower than expected for a receiver like him because Williams is sharing the wealth. So while the Irish might plan for Addison more than any other receiver, there really is no lesser evil here.
