Takeaways from Iowa’s Crossover at Kinnick win over DePaul

Iowa’s season unofficially got underway with a bang in front of a record audience. Here’s takeaways from the Crossover at Kinnick.

The Iowa Hawkeyes made history in their Crossover at Kinnick exhibition versus the DePaul Blue Demons.

Iowa registered a record crowd for a women’s basketball game with 55,646 raucous Hawkeye fans in attendance. That shattered the previous mark of 29,619 from the 2002 national championship game between Connecticut and Oklahoma.

“What a day for our state and the game of women’s basketball. Fifty-five thousand people in attendance is crazy. I appreciate our administration for backing my idea and not giving any push back on the idea. Today was everything we could’ve imagined and I’m happy for our girls because they got a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Iowa head women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder said afterwards.

When it was all said and done, it was another show-stopping performance from senior Caitlin Clark and a solid 94-72 exhibition win over DePaul. It’s just the tip of the iceberg for 2023-24, but what are several takeaways from the day that was?

Let’s dive in.
