Takeaways from Colts’ Week 15 unofficial depth chart

The Colts released their unofficial Week 15 depth chart. Here is a closer look at it along with a few quick takeaways.

Each week, the Indianapolis Colts release their unofficial team depth chart for the upcoming game.

Here in Week 15, the Colts find themselves in a playoff-like matchup as they travel to Denver, essentially needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Let’s take a look at this week’s unofficial depth chart, where there aren’t really any surprises, as has been the case all season, but we do still have a few quick takeaways.

Colts offense

  • WR: Michael Pittman Jr., Ashton Dulin
  • LT: Bernhard Raimann, Blake Freeland
  • LG: Quenton Nelson, Danny Pinter OR Tanor Bortolini
  • C: Tanor Bortolini, Danny Pinter
  • RG: Dalton Tucker, Atonio Mafi
  • RT: Braden Smith, Matt Goncalves
  • TE: Mo Alie-Cox, Drew Ogletree
  • TE: Kylen Granson, Will Mallory
  • WR: Josh Downs, Anthony Gould
  • WR: Alec Pierce OR Adonai Mitchell
  • QB: Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco, Sam Ehlinger
  • RB: Jonathan Taylor, Trey Sermon, Tyler Goodson

Quick Takeaways:

– Obviously a few injuries at the receiver position to monitor this week. Both Josh Downs (shoulder) and Ashton Dulin (ankle) would miss the New England game prior to the bye. We should get some updates on Wednesday when the Colts return to the practice field.

– Blake Freeland is listed as the backup left tackle, but Matt Goncalves has been the first option at both tackle spots if either Bernhard Raimann or Braden Smith is out.

– And while AD Mitchell is listed as the second wide receiver alongside Alec Pierce, he’s often been the fifth receiver in games this season, at times behind Dulin, and playing around 12 snaps per contest when everyone is healthy. As I wrote in Mitchell’s recent rookie review, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword for the Colts: Mitchell is going to experience ups and downs but he needs reps in order to overcome those inconsistencies.

Ryan Kelly could come off injured reserve this week as well and would slide back into the starting center role.

– With Mark Glowinski still on the practice squad, he isn’t going to be listed on the depth chart, but after his performance against the Patriots, I would assume he will be starting at right guard moving forward.

Colts Defense

  • DE: Kwity Paye, Laiatu Latu
  • DT: DeForest Buckner, Taven Bryan, Adetomiwa Adebawore
  • NT: Grover Stewart, Raekwon Davis
  • DE: Dayo Odeyingbo, Tyquan Lewis, Isaiah Land
  • WLB: E.J. Speed
  • MLB: Zaire Franklin, Segun Olubi
  • SAM: Grant Stuard, Cameron McGrone
  • CB: Samuel Womack III, David Long Jr.
  • FS: Julian Blackmon, Rodney Thomas II, Darren Hall
  • SS: Nick Cross, Ronnie Harrison Jr.
  • N: Kenny Moore II, Chris Lammons
  • CB: Jaylon Jones

Quick Takeaways

– At the start of the season, Tyquan Lewis was the opposite starter from Kwity Paye, but since his return, Dayo Odeyingbo has maintained that role.

– This depth chart really shows how thing the Colts are at the boundary cornerback position with David Long Jr. as the only backup. If there were an injury, Kenny Moore would likely move outside and Chris Lammons would be in the slot.

Special Teams

  • P: Rigoberto Sanchez
  • PK: Matt Gay
  • H: Rigoberto Sanchez
  • LS: Luke Rhodes
  • KR: Tyler Goodson, Anthony Gould, Ashton Dulin
  • PR: Josh Downs, Anthony Gould

Quick Takeaways:

– If Dulin and/or Downs is out again, rookie Anthony Gould will likely be active to provide another return-man option for the Colts.
