UC Riverside transfer Zyon Pullin reportedly down to 2 schools

Pullin is now down to LSU and Florida, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

We’re coming down the home stretch of the recruitment for one of the top available players in the transfer portal.

According to ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Borzello, UC Riverside transfer guard [autotag]Zyon Pullin[/autotag] — who recently trimmed his list of potential schools to five — is now down to just two finalists: LSU and Florida.

The Tigers may be playing catchup a bit here as the news came following a weekend official visit to Gainesville. LSU will likely need to get him on campus as well, but coach Matt McMahon’s squad remains in the race for the First Team All-Big West selection.

Landing a backcourt player of Pullin’s caliber would be a major addition to an already promising transfer class. After a disappointing first season in Baton Rouge, McMahon is undergoing another rebuild through the portal this offseason.

He’ll hope he’s able to close things out with Pullin and overcome the Gators and coach Todd Golden, who has also been very active in the transfer portal market after missing the tournament in his first season at UF.

Gators hosting transfer portal PG on official visit after landing in top 5

After landing in the top five for transfer point guard Zyon Pullin, the Florida Gators are reportedly getting him on campus for an official visit.

The University of California, Riverside point guard [autotag]Zyon Pullin[/autotag] withdrew his name from the NBA draft pool on Wednesday and narrowed down his transfer options to five schools: Florida, Gonzaga, LSU, Michigan and Xavier.

Pullin, a rising fifth-year player, is wasting little time getting to the first school on that list. He’s set to arrive in Gainesville on Saturday for an official visit, according to Swamp247.

During the 2022-23 season, Pullin averaged 18.3 points, 4.3 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. He shot 37.7% from three-point range and kept a relatively decent assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.71 over 30 games.

Todd Golden and Co. have added a ton of frontcourt options through the transfer portal but are still looking to add a point guard with three open scholarship spots on the roster. Walter Clayton and Denzel Aberdeen could see time at the point, but adding a player like Pullin gives Florida a veteran option to turn to.

Riley Kugel and Will Richard are better served as wings (SG/SF hybrids that specialize in scoring and often defense), and getting a true point guard on board frees them up. The rest of the team are big men or Alex Klatsky and Jack May (reserves).

Pullin may choose to visit a few more schools before making a decision, but Florida has had a few players commit after taking an official visit already. A blow-away experience could get him to do the same.

LSU makes the cut for UC Riverside transfer Zyon Pullin

Coach Matt McMahon isn’t done in the transfer portal just yet.

LSU coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] has been one of the most active coaches in the country when it comes to the transfer portal this offseason, but he’s not done yet.

The Tigers remain in the mix for talented UC Riverside graduate transfer point guard [autotag]Zyon Pullin[/autotag]. The Pleasant Hil, California, native recently released a top five that included Florida, Gonzaga, Michigan and Xavier in addition to LSU.

After seeing considerable action off the bench as a true freshman, Pullin became a full-time starter over the last three seasons. He was a First Team All-Big West selection this past season, averaging 18.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

Pullin flirted with the draft but ultimately withdrew last month and entered the transfer portal. He’s taking a visit to Florida this weekend, and some see this as a battle between the Gators and Wolverines.

LSU has competition from other quality programs here, and the Tigers will hope they are able to secure a visit before he makes his decision.
