Ravens NFL Draft grade: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson 30th overall

Breaking down the Ravens’ selection of Clemson’s Nate Wiggins.

The Baltimore Ravens used the 30th overall pick to help secure their already strong secondary and added a player that fits the Baltimore mold for what they want in a corner with Clemson defensive back Nate Wiggins.

Wiggins projects as a potential starter opposite Marlon Humphrey, but will be thrown into a positional competition early on in camp. Wiggin’s more natural fit is outside as a boundary corner and Baltimore brings plenty of competition for that second spot.

Long, strong, scrappy, and with plenty of speed, Wiggins projects well to the NFL. While his weight and frame lacks a bit in what teams are looking for at the next level, Wiggins could add on the pounds and add some more tenacity to his game to round out a solid base for a NFL corner.

Bengals NFL Draft grade: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia 18th overall

Breaking down the Bengals’ selection of Georgia’s Amarius Mims.

The Cincinnati Bengals came into this draft hoping to sure up an offensive line that needs to protect Joe Burrow and they landed perhaps the most talented lineman in the class with Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims.

Mims projects as a developmental depth player behind Trent Brown and Orlando Brown. Having only played a handful of games in college Mims needs to develop a little more before being thrusted out on the starting roster.

Possessing a massive frame, elite length, unreal athleticism, and just being a rare specimen as an offensive lineman, Mims could end up being the homerun of the draft and should take over on either side for the long term once he develops.

49ers draft grade: Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida 31st overall

Breaking down the 49ers’ selection of Florida WR Ricky Pearsall.

There has been noise in the weeks leading up to the draft that San Francisco could be moving on from one or both of their starting receivers in Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel so it makes sense they use their first round selection to pick up Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.

Pearsall’s projection lay entirely in what the 49ers do with their two starting receivers and whether they are on the roster come camp time. If they are not it’s likely that Pearsall would be thrusted into starting action opposite Jauan Jennings and whatever receiver they have left over. Pearsall has a fairly safe floor and could provide immediate production in an explosive Shanahan system.

Solid route running ability, shifty in and out of breaks, and plenty of yards after catch potential, Pearsall fits this offense like a glove and would do damage both in the slot, out on the boundary, or as a gadget weapon. Pearsall is a reliable and creative weapon who could put up solid numbers early.

Chargers NFL Draft grade: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame 5th overall

Breaking down the Chargers’ selection of Notre Dame’s Joe Alt.

In a move that is reflective of their new head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers secure their offensive line and add a massive human to anchor the right side of their line in Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt.

With Rashawn Slater already cemented at the left tackle spot, Alt is expected to kick out to the right tackle spot and give the Chargers two book end tackles for the next decade.

Alt is a secure pass protector with NFL bloodlines and a mean streak that will help in both phases of offense. The Chargers are intent on protecting Justin Herbert, and succeed in doing so with this pick.

Carolina Panthers draft grade: Xavier Legette, WR, South Carolina 32nd overall

Breaking down the Panthers’ draft selection of South Carolina’s Xavier Legette.

So much for not having a first round pick. Carolina moved up one spot with Buffalo into the first round to snag the guy they liked all along and a fifth year option to go along with it in South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette.

Legette projects as a potential immediate starter in Carolina playing the boundary opposite of newly acquired receiver Diontae Johnson. Legette faces some competition from the likes of Jonathan Mingo, but has the talent to be a starter day one.

A big play machine who was thrown at constantly, Legette had a breakout year and showed off some immense levels of talent. Excellent in both yards after catch and winning the contested ball, Legette has ‘X’ receiver potential and is good value at where he was taken. There is inherent risk of a one year wonder, and Legette needs to work on refining the more technical aspects of playing receiver.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Minnesota Vikings select Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama 17th overall

Breaking down the Vikings’ selection of Alabama’s Dallas Turner.

The Minnesota Vikings make yet another draft move by trading up this time and snagging one of the best edge rusher in this class in Alabama edge defender Dallas Turner.

Turner projects well to start immediately opposite Jonathan Greenard on the outside of this Minnesota defense  that desperately needs someone to add pressure with the departure of Danielle Hunter to Houston.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”5375″ ]

An Alabama defensive stud, Turner has been as solid as they come coming off the edge, with excellent length, top level athleticism, and the ability to develop even further, Turner is a home run selection this late into the first round.

Bears QB Caleb Williams broke Fanatics record for draft night jersey sales

Bears rookie QB Caleb Williams’ jersey is in high demand.

The Chicago Bears kicked off the Caleb Williams era last night after selecting the star quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

It’s a move that was anticipated for weeks, especially after the team traded away Justin Fields to clear the way for Williams. And it’s safe to say Bears fans were beyond thrilled last night, as evidenced by an insane record that was broken.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Williams broke the Fanatics record for draft night merchandise sales for any draft pick in any sport. He beat the previous record set by Caitlin Clark last week.

Shortly after Williams was announced as the first overall pick, the Bears announced his jersey number. Williams will wear No. 18, which was his high school number. No. 13 will likely be worn by new wide receiver Keenan Allen, who Chicago traded for last month.

Expectations are high for Williams, even in Year 1. The Bears have done everything to make this an ideal landing spot for Williams: he’s got an arsenal of weapons (including Allen, DJ Moore and Cole Kmet), an improved offensive line, a potential top-five defense and new QB-friendly offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Kansas City Chiefs select Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Kansas City Chiefs select Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

The Kansas City Chiefs caught an itch for their offense for a speedster to be its primary weapon and traded up with the Buffalo Bills to ensure they landed the fastest player in NFL combine history with Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Worthy projects as a rotational piece in a receiver room full of question marks. If Worthy is able to tap into his full potential under Andy Reid, he could be the number one receiver by year’s end and a potential rookie of the year candidate.

Speed is Worthy’s obvious strong suit, and he has loads of it. Shifty after the catch with excellent acceleration, Worthy is someone teams will have to pay attention to on every snap. The leaner Worthy could be swallowed up by NFL defensive backs, and he needs to refine some more technical issues, but this has home run potential for the Chiefs.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Dallas Cowboys select Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma 29th overall

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Dallas Cowboys select Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma 29th overall

After maneuvering down the board a bit, the Dallas Cowboys finally landed on their offensive lineman of choice in Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton.

Guyton projects as potentially an immediate starter at the left tackle spot for the Cowboys, who likely want to keep third-year player Tyler Smith locked in at guard. Guyton will be filling rather large shoes both figuratively and literally as he steps into a role left by future hall of famer Tyron Smith in protecting Dak Prescott’s blindside.

With a massive frame, excellent athleticism, and tons of movement ability, Guyton could develop into a rock-solid left tackle for the Cowboys. At the current moment, Guyton needs some refinement to reach his peak and he could struggle early on if thrown into the fire Week 1 as a rookie.
