Ravens to sign TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden to the practice squad

Ravens to sign TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden to the practice squad

The Ravens are making a roster move on Monday that will be announced in the coming days. They signed tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden to the practice squad.

Mitchell-Paden’s agency, Keepin It Real Sports, announced the deal for the Rockville, Maryland native.

Mitchell-Paden was waived by the Browns during the final roster cuts and offered intriguing size and athleticism.

Mitchell-Paden went undrafted out of Florida Atlantic following a college career that saw him play in 12 games during the 2021 season and finished the season with nine catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Patriots reportedly worked out former second-round pick tight end

The Patriots reportedly hosted two tight ends for a workout

The New England Patriots worked out tight ends Zaire Mitchell-Paden and Irv Smith on Monday, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson.

Mitchell-Paden most recently spent time with the Cleveland Browns. He was given a reserve/future contract with the organization in January. He was waived by the team on August 27.

Smith, who was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs in August, played with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023. He caught 18 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. He began his career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. Overall, he has 109 receptions for 973 yards and 10 touchdowns in his four-year career.

New England could use additional tight end depth behind Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper. Henry caught two passes for 18 yards in Sunday’s 16-10 win over the Bengals, while Hooper grabbed two passes for 31 yards.

The Patriots spent a seventh-round draft pick on rookie tight end Jaheim Bell. There’s hope that he can work his way up to being a prominent contributor at some point.

But there’s also nothing wrong with updating their emergency list at a position of importance in offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt’s run-heavy offense.

Do the Browns have their TE3 on the roster right now?

The Browns are transitioning away from heavy sets and into 11 personnel looks, but they still need a body in the tight end room. Is that player currently on the roster?

The Cleveland Browns suffered numerous injuries in their latest preseason game when they hosted the Minnesota Vikings. Among these injuries was the standout fullback and tight end, Giovanni Ricci, who suffered a knee injury. This leaves the Browns questioning how long Ricci will be out and who will backup David Njoku as we approach Week 1 of the regular season.

One of the players who will find more playing time opportunities is second-year tight end Jordan Akins. The former Houston Texan teammate of Deshaun Watson is now in the second and last year of his $3.9 million contract and provided meaningful playing time last season with 15 catches and 132 yards. Another highly touted candidate to step up in Ricci’s spot is promising young tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden.

The former Florida Atlantic Owl did not provide any regular season stats in his rookie season but has shown exciting potential in his first two preseason showings. On Saturday’s showing against the Vikings, he caught all four of his targets for 59 yards. This led the team in both receptions and yards.

The Browns still await the official word on the extent of Ricci’s injury but hope to have him back sooner rather than later. As for the tight end, Njoku will still need someone to help take some of the reps this season.

Browns announce Deshaun Watson and a plethora of rookies as inactive vs. Ravens

The Browns have announced their inactives for today’s matchup against the Ravens including quarterback Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns are just about set to take on the Baltimore Ravens in this Week 4 AFC North showdown, and they will be doing so without their starting quarterback. Deshaun Watson has been ruled out in this game due to a contusion on his throwing shoulder as the Browns will now give him through the bye to rest. This means Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get the start for the Browns as they look to advance to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the division.

As they do every week, the Browns have announced the rest of their inactives 90 minutes before game time. This week’s list of inactives is nearly identical to the previous weeks as well. One big name omitted is tight end David Njoku, as he will play despite sustaining burns on his arms and face during a fire pit accident at his home on Friday night.

Here is the full list of inactives the Browns have announced.

Browns elevate QB PJ Walker with Deshaun Watson questionable

Is this a sign that Watson might not be able to go?

With quarterback Deshaun Watson questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, the Cleveland Browns have made a move for some insurance by elevating PJ Walker from the practice squad. This doesn’t mean that Watson won’t be active but it certainly means there’s a chance he won’t.

Watson did very little throwing this week as he deals with a sore throwing shoulder. The quarterback said he expects to play but it leaves you wondering just how effective he can be dealing with the shoulder injury.

In addition to the Walker elevation the team also elevated tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden as David Njoku is now questionable. Njoku was involved in an accident in his backyard that resulted in burns to his arm and face. Outside of these two players, everyone else on the roster is healthy going into another AFC North matchup against the Ravens as the team looks to get another big victory before the bye week.
