Mississippi State game to kick off at 11 a.m. as well

Arkansas and Mississippi State will tangle from Fayetteville at 11 a.m. on ESPN on October 21.

Arkansas fans better get used to setting the alarm clocks the remainder of the season.

It was announced Monday that its first home game since Sept. 16 against BYU would kick off at 11 a.m. versus Mississippi State.

The game will be Arkansas’ third 11 a.m. game of the year, following the A&M one on Sept. 30 and this weekend’s contest with Alabama.

Mississippi State is on a bye this week, but has yet to win a Southeastern Conference game so far in 2023.

The Bulldogs lost badly to both LSU and Alabama at home, while dropping a 37-30 decision to South Carolina sandwiched in between those two.

Zach Arnett is in his first season as the head coach after taking over the program following the untimely death of Mike Leach last December.

Alabama vs. Mississippi State: All-time series history, facts

Check out the all-time series history and a few facts about the SEC West rivalry that ends this Saturday.

Alabama and Mississippi State face off for the final time in the foreseeable future, as the SEC alters its scheduling thanks to the addition of Oklahoma and Texas. These two teams have a historic rivalry, but it’s very lopsided.

Saban and the Crimson Tide will travel to Starkville for an SEC West matchup that could be one of the most underrated games of the Week 5 slate.

Mississippi State looks to avoid going 0-3 in conference play and 2-3 overall in Zach Arnett’s first season as the Bulldogs’ head coach.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and Zach Arnett will meet as head coaches for the first time, and it will also serve as Kelly’s first game at Mississippi State.

It’s an 11 a.m. CT kickoff, a time LSU struggled with in 2022.

Mississippi State is 2-0 after pulling out a win in overtime against Arizona last week. There are a lot of familiar faces on this Bulldog team filled with upperclassmen, but a lot has changed since last year, too.

Here are five things you should know about Mississippi State before the game on Saturday.

Mississippi State coach Zach Arnett dropped an F-bomb in his postgame interview and immediately regretted it

Zach Arnett was a little too excited after Mississippi State’s overtime win over Arizona.

We love a good unfiltered interview where the interviewee forgets they’re actually being interviewed, and that’s exactly what we got after Mississippi State staved off a near-collapse to beat Arizona in overtime Saturday night.

Bulldogs head coach Zach Arnett could finally breathe once the game went final and let his relief show maybe a little too much during his postgame interview on SEC Network, casually letting an F-bomb fly on national TV.

I’ll be honest. I don’t understand the root of the banter between Arnett and interviewer Cole Cubelic, but it doesn’t make this slip-up and Arnett’s immediate face of regret any less funny.

That’s the face of a man who wished he could just vanish from the cameras — or “scramble” — in that moment. But ultimately, it just made for funny TV. And more importantly, Arnett’s team got the win.

Here’s how LSU’s next opponent, Mississippi State, fared in Week 2

Here’s how LSU’s next opponent fared in Week 2.

LSU will begin conference play next week with a trip to Mississippi State.

While LSU put it on cruise control against Grambling, Mississippi State had its hands full with Power Five opponent Arizona.

The Bulldogs led 21-7 early in the third, but then Arizona’s offense caught fire and stormed back to force overtime.

Mississippi State held on, winning 31-24 and moving to 2-0 on the year.

MSU fought hard in this one, so there could be some advantage in that for LSU next week.

Mississippi State made it a point to run the ball, giving it to Jo’Quavious Marks 24 times for 123 yards.

The Bulldog defense struggled when it came to preventing explosive plays. According to GameOnPaper, Arizona totaled seven explosive passing plays on the night.

Mississippi State is one of the most experienced teams in the SEC, but with a first-year head coach, there are still some questions.

LSU hasn’t lost to MSU since the opener in 2020. LSU won 34-17 last year in Tiger Stadium.

Report: Zach Arnett not expected to become next LSU defensive coordinator

It looks like Mississippi State’s Zach Arnett won’t be headed to Baton Rouge.

LSU football has been on the hunt to find its next defensive coordinator since parting ways with Bo Pelini after up-and-down defensive showings and a dismal 5-5 finish to the 2020 college football season.

But it looks like Mississippi State defensive coordinator Zach Arnett won’t be the Tigers’ guy, according to Geaux247.

Arnett interviewed in Baton Rouge, but an offer from LSU’s side was not extended, per the report.

The Bulldogs finished with the fifth-best defense in the Southeastern Conference with Arnett at the helm, giving up 389.7 yards and 28.09 points per game in 2020 in comparison to the 399.3 yards per game last year.

Under Pelini last year, the Tigers defense allowed 492 yards per game and an average of 34.9 points per game in the SEC-only schedule.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron maintained optimism that the Tigers will get the people they need in the right places.

“Looking good, we have a lot of great candidates, it’s about getting the right fit,” Orgeron said in an Off the Bench appearance. “Hopefully we can get it within the next week but we’re gonna take our time and get the right people in here. I think eventually all the pieces will fit together.”

It will be interesting to see where LSU goes next in its search to fill the void at this position, after taking care of the offensive coordinator spot with Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz and adding passing game coordinator DJ Mangas.
