Falcons hiring Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson as offensive coordinator

Raheem Morris and the Falcons are hiring Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson as their offensive coordinator

The Los Angeles Rams lost Raheem Morris to the Atlanta Falcons this week, and now he’s taking one of their coaches with him. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Falcons are hiring Zac Robinson as their offensive coordinator.

Robinson was the Rams’ quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator, playing a pivotal role on the coaching staff as someone who worked closely with Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford. It’s hardly surprising to see Morris bring Robinson to the Falcons after working with him for the last three years.

Robinson had been with the Rams since 2019, starting out as their assistant quarterbacks coach before being promoted in 2022.

Falcons to hire Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson as offensive coordinator

The Falcons are hiring Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson as offensive coordinator, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday night

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to hire Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach/passing-game coordinator Zac Robinson as offensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Saturday evening.

Robinson, 37, joined the Rams coaching staff in 2019 as an assistant quarterbacks coach. In 2022, the team promoted Robinson to pass-game coordinator/quarterbacks coach.

Since Morris spent the last three seasons in Los Angeles working with Robinson, this pairing makes a lot of sense.

It was also reported that the Falcons will retain special teams coordinator Marquice Williams, who served the last three seasons on Arthur Smith’s staff.

Bucs to interview Zac Robinson for offensive coordinator position

Zac Robinson has become one of the most popular offensive coordinator candidates in the NFL, landing another interview with the Bucs

Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson has been busy since the season ended, landing several interviews with teams around the NFL that are looking for offensive coordinators. The latest team to request a meeting with Robinson is the Buccaneers.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Bucs put in a request to interview Robinson, eyeing him as a potential replacement for Dave Canales, who became the Panthers’ head coach. The Saints, Steelers, Patriots and Raiders have all shown interest in Robinson, too.

Additionally, he’s considered a strong candidate to follow Raheem Morris to the Falcons as his offensive coordinator in Atlanta.

Robinson has been with the Rams since 2019, starting out as their assistant quarterbacks coach before being promoted to pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022.

Falcons to hire Raheem Morris as head coach, complicating Saints’ OC search

Falcons to hire Raheem Morris as head coach, which could complicate the Saints offensive coordinator search:

The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly zeroing in on Raheem Morris as their next head coach — the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator worked as Atlanta’s interim head coach during the 2020 season, and led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers more than a decade ago.

Now that’s newsworthy in itself. But Morris landing a head coach job of his own, much less in the NFC South, could complicate the New Orleans Saints’ search for an offensive coordinator. Morris has worked closely with Rams quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Zac Robinson in recent years and he could be joining Morris on the Falcons. They’ve obviously found success working together before.

If that’s the case, the Saints could lose out on their best-qualified candidate for offensive coordinator to a division rival. Just like New Orleans, Atlanta offers Robinson the opportunity to get out of Sean McVay’s shadow and call his own plays while running the offense under a defensive-minded head coach. But the familiarity with Morris might make a difference. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones characterized Robinson as “a strong candidate” to join Morris in Atlanta.

Still, it’s not like the Saints and Falcons are Robinson’s only suitors. He’s interviewed with many teams for their offensive coordinator openings this cycle and he could just as well go somewhere else. Still, with this being the most important hire Dennis Allen will make in his three years as head coach, it’s not a decision the Saints can afford to get wrong.

Falcons eyeing Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson for OC job, per report

Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson considered a ‘strong candidate’ for Falcons offensive coordinator job, per report

The Atlanta Falcons are hiring Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their next head coach, but who will Morris hire to be the team’s offensive coordinator?

According to a report from CBS insider Jonathan Jones, Rams passing-game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson is considered a “strong candidate” for Atlanta’s offensive coordinator job.

Robinson, 37, is a former NFL quarterback who was originally selected in the seventh round of the 2010 draft by the New England Patriots. After his playing career ended, Robinson joined the Rams coaching staff in 2019 as an assistant quarterbacks coach.

In 2022, Robinson was promoted to pass-game coordinator/quarterbacks coach on Sean McVay’s staff in Los Angeles. Check back for more updates on the coaching staff once the team officially hires Morris.

Report: Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson is strong candidate to be Falcons offensive coordinator

Zac Robinson could leave the Rams and follow Raheem Morris to the Falcons as their offensive coordinator

The Los Angeles Rams were dealt a significant blow on Thursday when news broke that the Atlanta Falcons plan to hire Raheem Morris as their next head coach. Morris has been the Rams’ defensive coordinator for the last three years, helping them win the Super Bowl in his first season with the team.

What makes this departure even worse for Los Angeles is the likelihood that other assistant coaches will follow Morris to Atlanta. One of them is even a strong candidate already: Zac Robinson.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Robinson is a “strong candidate” to become Morris’ offensive coordinator with the Falcons. That would make a ton of sense, with Morris and Robinson having worked together for the last three years.

Robinson has also had interviews with the Steelers, Saints and Patriots for their offensive coordinator roles, but he might prefer to follow Morris to the Falcons.

Things have heated up for the Raiders in their search for their next offensive coordinator. Including Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt who will interview with the team this week according to NFL media’s Tom Pelissero.

Van Pelt has been the offensive coordinator in Cleveland the past four seasons. Prior to that he was the QB coach in Cincinnati and Green Bay before that.

There has been additional coaches scheduled since the Van Pelt news.

Here is the full list of Raiders reported offensive coordinator interviews so far:

UCLA head coach Chip Kelly (report)

Antonio Pierce’s first priority as recently named head coach will be landing a solid offensive coordinator. So, this process is of utmost importance.

Presumably the team would like to get a GM in place as well, perhaps even in time to be in the room for these interviews. If so, they’d have to make their decision quickly because these coach candidates are on the schedule for this week.

Updated: Jan. 28

The search is underway for a bright, young offensive mind to conceive a plan to get the Pittsburgh Steelers on a steady, competitive path. Whether it’s Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph or insert name at the helm in 2024, he’ll be guided by a new coordinator.

The process started on January 22 when Pittsburgh requested an interview with Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Zac Robinson.

There’s no telling how many candidates the Steelers plan to interview, and, of course, there’s the Rooney Rule — stating all clubs must interview at least one minority candidate for coordinator positions.

Many names have been floated since Matt Canada was fired. We’ll see if any of them end up being brought in. The list will be updated here as names are announced.

Here’s a look at potential Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator candidates:

Rams QB coach Zac Robinson interviewed for Saints offensive coordinator job

Rams quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator Zac Robinson has a busy schedule, but he made time to interview for the Saints OC opening:

Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator Zac Robinson has a busy schedule, but he made time to interview for the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator opening, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill. So far, the Saints have interviewed all four candidates they’ve requested time with in this year’s hiring cycle.

Robinson has had a lot of offers hit his inbox. The MMQB’s Albert Breer reports that he previously interviewed with the Chicago Bears (before they hired Shane Waldron, another Saints target, for the same job) and he has a meeting scheduled Tuesday with the New England Patriots — with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders both requesting interviews of their own.

Why so much interest? Robinson has worked closely with Rams head coach Sean McVay during the last five years, starting out as the team’s assistant quarterbacks coach in 2019 and climbing the ladder to his current position. He’s coached both quarterbacks and wide receivers for L.A. and while he hasn’t called plays, he has learned from one of the best. He’s in high demand. Let’s see if the Saints can land him.

7 realistic OC candidates the Eagles can target after parting ways with Brian Johnson

We’re looking at seven realistic candidates who could replace Brian Johnson as Offensive Coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles

After a late-season meltdown that saw the Eagles go 1-6 in their final seven games, including the playoffs, the head coach is on the hot seat, and his assistant coaches are all expected to depart.

Philadelphia’s third-year head coach has far exceeded expectations, but it’s clear that Johnson Gannon and Shane Steichen played far more significant roles than we thought.

The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reports that offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, 36, won’t return after one season as the player-caller that saw him oversee the NFL’s No. 8-ranked unit but struggling to get consistent results during a late-season slide that included a blowout playoff loss to the Buccaneers.

Johnson recently interviewed for two different head coaching jobs — with the Falcons and Titans — but is expected to leave the Eagles regardless, per Derrick Gunn, likely landing “elsewhere in some offensive capacity.”

With things starting to heat up, we’re looking at seven realistic options for an offensive coordinator.
