The Irish could face some very good true freshman this fall

The recruiting world has changed, no longer do prospects who are highly ranked have to wait their turn when they arrive to their respective college campuses. Each year more and more true-freshman get significant playing time and the opportunity to make an impact. Here are the top incoming recruits, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, from each team that Notre Dame will face this fall.

A top Wisconsin 2021 target pushes back his commitment date

The Badgers will have to wait on the commitment of a top OLB in 2021

The Badgers are looking to round out their impressive class of 2021, and a top OLB target is still high on their target list.

Yanni Karlaftis, a four-star (according to 247Sports) OLB out of West Lafayette, Indiana has decided to push back his commitment date per his Twitter account.

The 247Sports “crystal ball” speculation sees the battle for Karlaftis as a two team race between Purdue and Wisconsin. The location of Purdue, being right in the four-star ‘backers home turf, certainly gives the Boilermakers an advantage, although the Badgers have built a special class in 2021 that could get even better. Karlaftis also has his brother George Karlaftis, who is a rising sophomore DE at Purdue, trying to sway him in the direction of the Boilermakers. His decision was supposed to come on August 9, but has now been pushed back to an unannounced date.

Cal and Oregon are also still in the mix for the four-star prospect.

Four-star 2021 linebacker with the Badgers in his top-4 sets his commitment date

Class of 2021 four-star outside linebacker Yanni Karlaftis–a recruit with the Badgers in his final four schools–announced yesterday…

Class of 2021 four-star outside linebacker Yanni Karlaftis–a recruit with the Badgers in his final four schools–announced yesterday that he will be committing on August 9.

The West Lafayette, Indiana native is the No. 236 recruit in the class of 2021, the No. 16 outside linebacker and the No. 2 player from the state of Indiana.

As seen above, the final schools on Karlaftis’ radar are Wisconsin, Purdue, Oregon and Cal.

247Sports’ current crystal ball prediction gives Purdue a 57.1 percent chance to sign the linebacker–the school where his older brother George is currently playing–and the Badgers a 42.9 percent chance.

Karlaftis choosing the Badgers would be the next in a long line of impressive recruits in the class of 2021 to commit to Wisconsin, most notably four-star defensive end T.J. Bollers, four-star safety Hunter Wohler, four-star tight end Jack Pugh and four-star offensive tackles J.P. Benzschawel and Riley Mahlman.

The class currently stands at No. 14 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten, a ranking that is in line to be the best the program has had since the online ranking era began.
