N.Y. has a better lineup and bullpen than Tampa and Taillon looks comfier in his 2nd season as a Yankee. Taillon’s hard-hit rate, BB% and chase rate have all significantly improved since 2021, per Statcast.

Also, the Yankees are 6-2 overall in their last 8 visits to Tampa and this is a worse version of the Rays because of the injuries to their pitching staff.

PASS. N.Y. +1.5 (-210) is just too pricey to sprinkle on their RL and I prefer to bet the Under instead.

N.Y.’s bats are also more productive vs. left-handed pitching than Tampa’s. The Yankees rank 2nd in wRC+ (123), 5th in wOBA (.333) and 4th in hard-hit rate (33.8%), per FanGraphs. The Rays have a 108 wRC+ (ranked 12th), .305 wOBA (15th) and a 28.5% hard-hit rate (19th).

Tampa’s bullpen has regressed year over year, mostly due to injuries, whereas New York’s bullpen is a top-5 unit. The Yankees’ relievers are 2nd in FIP (3.10) and 5th in home runs allowed per 9 innings (0.62). The Rays’ relievers are 20th in FIP (4.07) and 28th in home runs allowed per 9 (1.24).

Bet a HALF UNIT on TAMPA BAY -1.5 (+150).

When the Rays beat the Yankees they win by at least 2 runs. All eight of Tampa Bay’s victories in this season’s head-to-head series have been by 2 or more runs.
