New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Blue Jays (29-27) clinch a playoff spot if they beat the New York Yankees (32-24) Thursday in the finale of this four-game set at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, Toronto’s 2020 home. First pitch is set for 6:37 p.m. ET.  Below, we analyze the Yankees-Blue Jays MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Wednesday: The Blue Jays cruised to a 14-1 victory, hitting our STRONG PLAY of the Over and beating our small Yankees run line play. Toronto leads the series 2-1, but New York leads the regular-season series 5-4.

Playoff picture: With four games remaining for each team, the Yankees already claimed a playoff spot and lead the Blue Jays by 3 games for second place in the AL East.

The Jays currently are the AL’s No. 2 wild card, 3½ games ahead of the Los Angles Angels (26-31) and 4 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners (25-31).

Yankees at Blue Jays: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Jordan Montgomery vs. LHP Hyun Jin Ryu

Montgomery is 2-2 with a 5.12 ERA (38 2/3 IP, 22 ER) in 9 starts this season.

Prediction

Blue Jays 9, Yankees 4

Money line (ML)

With a playoff berth at stake and Ryu on the hill, the BLUE JAYS (-100/EVEN) is the STRONGEST PLAY. Ryu has been a welcome addition since joining Toronto in the offseason. He has only allowed 2 or more earned runs in 2 of his last 9 starts, in which he owns a 2.12 ERA.

New to sports betting? Every winning $1 bet on the Blue Jays ML will profit $1. Every $1 bet on the Yankees (+100) profits $1 if they win. (Strongest plays should be 1.5 times your usual bet).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Only 1 of the 9 head-to-head meetings this season was decided by 1 run. Instead of laying a little bit of juice on the Blue Jays (+1.5, -162) vs. the Yankees as (-1.5, +135), I’ll back TORONTO’S -1.5 (+185) alternate line for a small play – which should be half your usual bet.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 9.5 (-106) is the way to go. The 22 games at Sahlen Field have averaged 11.64 combined runs between Toronto and its opponent. In the six Yankees-Blue Jays there, the two combined to average 12.5 runs per game.

New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Yankees (32-23) and Toronto Blue Jays (28-27) continue this penultimate regular-season series Wednesday at Buffalo’s Sahlen Field, Toronto’s 2020 home. First pitch is set for 6:37 p.m. ET.  Below, we analyze the Yankees-Blue Jays MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Tuesday: The Yankees won our run line play and hit our small Over bet with an easy 12-1 victory. The four-game set is tied 1-1; the Blue Jays took the opener 11-5.

Playoff picture: With five games remaining for both clubs, the Yankees lead the Blue Jays by 4 games for second place in the AL East, and trail the Tampa Bay Rays (36-20) by 3.5 games for first.

The Blue Jays currently are the AL’s No. 2 wild card, 3.5 games ahead of the Los Angles Angels (25-31) and 4 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners (24-31).

Season series: Yankees lead 5-3.

Yankees at Blue Jays: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Masahiro Tanaka vs. LHP Robbie Ray

Tanaka is 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA (44 IP, 16 ER) in 9 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 5 K vs. Blue Jays last Thursday – Yankees won 10-7
  • Last 5 starts: 3-1, 2.54 ERA (28 1/3 IP, 8 ER)
  • Career vs. Blue Jays: 14-5, 2.92 ERA (135 2/3 IP, 44 ER) in 22 starts, including 1-0 in 1 start this season (last Thursday)

  • Last start: Loss, 4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 6 K at Philadelphia Phillies Friday – Blue Jays lost 7-0

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:20 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Yankees 10, Blue Jays 4

Money line (ML)

The Yankees (-223) clinch second place in the AL East with a win, which would leave the Blue Jays (+195) battling for a wild-card spot. Tanaka gives New York the edge, but the price is too steep.

PASS and focus on the run line.

New to sports betting? Every winning $2.23 bet on the Yankees ML will profit $1. Every $1 bet on the Blue Jays profits $1.95 if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

For a second game in a row, BetMGM is applying a +/-2.5 run line due to  the Yankees being such big favorites. New York is -2.5 (+100); Toronto is +2.5 (-121).

And for the second game in a row, I’ll back the -1.5 alternate line, making the YANKEES -1.5 (-143) the play, but just a small one. They’re 10-4 vs. the RL in their last 14 games, while the Blue Jays are 4-10.

(Small-unit plays should be half your usual bet).

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 10.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY. In the 21 games Toronto has played at Sahlen Field so far, there has been an average of 11.48 runs per game. In the five Yankees-Blue Jays meetings in Buffalo, the two combined to average 12.0 runs per game.

(Strongest plays should be 1.5 times your usual bet).

New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Yankees (31-23) and Toronto Blue Jays (28-26) play Game 2 of a four-game series Tuesday at Toronto’s temporary 2020 home, Sahlen Field in Buffalo, N.Y. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.  Below, we analyze the Yankees-Blue Jays MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Monday: The Blue Jays won 11-5.

Playoff picture: With six games remaining, the Blue Jays trail the Yankees by 3 games for second place in the AL East. However, they hold a 4-game lead over the Seattle Mariners (24-30) for the AL’s final wild-card spot.

The Yankees, who already clinched a postseason berth, fell 4½ games behind the Tampa Bay Rays (36-19) for first place in AL East.

Season series: Yankees lead 4-3.

Yankees at Blue Jays: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Gerrit Cole vs. RHP Tanner Roark

Cole is 6-3 with a 3.00 ERA (66 IP, 22 ER) with 87 K in 11 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP (CG), 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K vs. Blue Jays Wednesday – Yankees won 13-2
  • Last 3 starts: 2-1, 0.90 ERA (20 IP, 2 ER), 27 K
  • Career vs. Blue Jays: 2-0, 3.50 ERA (18 IP, 7 ER) in 3 starts, including 1-0 in 2020 – his last start mentioned above

Roark is 2-2 with a 6.41 ERA (39 1/3 IP, 28 ER) in 9 starts.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 IP, 6 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 4 HR vs. Yankees Wednesday – Blue Jays lost 13-2
  • Career vs. Yankees: 1-2, 5.75 ERA (20 1/3 IP, 13 ER) in 3 starts, including 0-1, 9.00 ERA (8 IP, 8 ER) in 2 starts this season

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Yankees 7, Blue Jays 3

Money line (ML)

With Cole on the hill, the Yankees (-264) are close to 3-to-1 favorites. I just can’t lay that kind of chalk in a regular-season game. I’ll PASS and focus on the run line.

New to sports betting? Every winning $2.64 bet on the Yankees ML will profit $1. Every $1 bet on the Blue Jays (+235) profits $2.35 if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Yankees are such a big favorite that BetMGM is going with a +/-2.5 run line. New York is -2.5 (-110); Toronto is +2.5 (-110).

I’m going play an alternate line and back the YANKEES -1.5 (-167). It’s still a bit costly, but each of Cole’s six wins this season have been by 3 or more runs. Plus, Roark has struggled vs. New York, including his last start when he served up 4 homers.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 9.5 (-110) is worth a small play – which should be half your usual wager. If it wasn’t for Cole, I’d hammer the Over as a “strong play” the way these two clubs have been scoring runs against each other.

Yankees at Blue Jays: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Blue Jays 4, Yankees 1

Moneyline (ML)

The BLUE JAYS (-139) are the STRONGEST PLAY. They hit better (.255 team average) and score more (4.9 runs per game) than the Yankees (.236 and 4.67 RPG). Plus, the Blue Jays pitch better – their team ERA (3.87) is almost half a run lower than the Yankees (4.37).

The Jays are without their home run leader in Hernandez, but Ryu gives them the edge. In his last six starts, he owns a 1.06 ERA (4 ER in 34 innings).

New to sports betting? Every winning $1.39 bet on the Blue Jays ML will profit $1. Every $1 bet on the Yankees (+125) will profit $1.25 if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

AVOID. The Blue Jays are 6-2 straight-up in Ryu’s eight starts, but they’re 2-6 vs. the RL in those games. Both clubs are 21-19 vs. the RL this season, including identical 3-7 RL records in their last 10.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the UNDER 9 (-110). Three of Ryu’s last six games have been 2-1 finals, while the other three totaled 9 runs apiece.

The Blue Jays feature a 17-20-3 O/U record this season. The Yankees are 18-18-4 vs. the O/U, but are in a current slump at the plate – they’re hitting just .202 in their last eight games.
