Student-athletes in the state of California have a couple choices to make at the high school level. The Golden State announced this week that it’s postponing high school football to the spring in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Thus, either players could stand pat, waiting until spring to play; they could transfer to a school in another state — or, in the case of one of Michigan football’s 2021 commits, they could just come to Ann Arbor early.

Which is precisely what speedy Fresno (CA) Central East four-star wideout Xavier Worthy intends to do.

While it’s not a given that spring football in college will happen as normal, Worthy announced via Twitter that he’s going to roll the dice and enroll at Michigan in January — which would have him hitting the field on a similar timeline compared to staying in high school.

Not only is this a good move for Worthy to get to campus and acclimate early, but it’s a solid situation for the Wolverines, ensuring that one of their prized commits remains locked up and locked into the program. Early Signing Day, regardless, isn’t until December, with the traditional National Signing Day taking place in February. But, considering that Worthy was, before, considered an Oregon-lean, with offers from schools such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU and USC, getting him enrolled and ready to go this upcoming spring could be a boon to the maize and blue’s offense.

4-star WR Xavier Worthy commits to the University of Michigan

Georgia Bulldogs football recruiting target Xavier Worthy has committed to the University of Michigan Wolverines.

The Georgia Bulldogs were among the top schools for four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to secure a commitment from him.

Worthy is a member of the class of 2021 and is from Fresno, California (UGA’s Kendall Milton also hails from the area). Worthy plays football for Central East High School.

Worthy has committed to the University of Michigan. He announced his commitment via Twitter:

Worthy has had some pretty sweet edits. Here’s the one he released for his top schools:

Worthy picked Michigan over UGA, Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU, which made up his top six.

Worthy will be a solid addition to Michigan’s class of 2021. The Wolverines are looking to dethrone Ohio State, but have a long way to go as the Buckeyes have the top class of 2021 in the country.

The Dawgs are currently seeking a talented wide receiver to commit in the class of 2021. Kirby Smart and Georgia have solidified the offensive and defensive fronts already.

Michigan pulls second lightning-fast 2021 4-star WR from California

The Wolverines add a third receiver in 2021 with another burner perfect for speed in space.

History is repeating itself.

First, it was 2020 four-star wideout Giles Jackson, the Bay Area wide receiver who wowed scouts at The Opening before pledging to the maize and blue a few months later. Then it was 2021 four-star Cristian Dixon, who hails from a general USC-feeder in powerhouse Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei, who spurned the Trojans in favor of the Wolverines.

Thanks the the efforts from the former as well as offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, Michigan got yet another California speedster to pledge to the program on Friday.

With schools such as Alabama, Oregon, LSU and Georgia in high pursuit, Gattis and Michigan pitched the newfound ‘speed in space’ offense to Fresno (CA) Central East wide receiver Xavier Worthy, bolstered by Jackson’s showings late in 2019. At 6-foot-1, 160-pounds, Worthy runs a 10.5 100-meter dash according to 247Sports.

And on Friday, he announced via Instagram Live that he’s joining the maize and blue.

Rated by 247Sports as the No. 95 player in the country, No. 11 wide receiver and No. 8 player in the state of California, Worthy’s pledge gives the Wolverines 20 commits in 2021, as Michigan maintains the No. 8 class in the country.

He’s the third wideout committed in 2021 as well, with the aforementioned Dixon pledged to the class as well as Ohio three-star Markus Allen.

Michigan making 247Sports Crystal Ball run on 2021 CA 4-star WR

The Wolverines are making a run for the elite California wide receiver.

Michigan already has one California four-star receiver committed in the 2021 class, could it be in the market for another?

The Wolverines have been long targeting Fresno (CA) Central East wideout Xavier Worthy, who’s rated by 247Sports as the No. 95 player in the country, regardless of position. He’s additionally the 11th-rated wide receiver and No. 8 player in the state of California.

PAC-12 power Oregon held a strong lead in his 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions — until Thursday.

The maize and blue have been making a run, with four picks coming in for Michigan, with The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb putting in a confidence rating of 7 out of 10. Also notable is that 247Sports’ director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for the Wolverines, though his confidence ranking is a mere 4 out of 10.

Still, given that the Ducks seemed to have the edge a month ago, that Michigan is suddenly receiving predictions for the 6-foot-1, 160-pound speedster indicates that the Wolverines are making a push.

Also notable is that West Coast-based national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman — who had a pick for Worthy to Oregon — put in a prediction for Michigan to win out, and he had this to say about Worthy as a prospect, having personally evaluated him:

Explosive speedster with elite speed (10.55 PR in 100m as sophomore), dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands. Crisp route runner, with ability to quickly gain separation and stretch the field. Natural pass-catcher who can get deep consistently while also taking shorter passes. Good body control and ability to adjust to throws. Also adept punt and kick returner. Slender frame will need to add weight and strength. Projects as immediate impact Power 5 player and second or third day NFL draft pick.

Worthy had tweeted back on June 3 that he intended to pledge to his school of choice on June 27, however that never came to fruition, as he announced on June 21 that he was ‘postponing his commitment.’

He appears to have developed something of a bond with fellow California receiver Giles Jackson, as the Wolverines sophomore has frequently made his pitch for Worthy to wear a winged helmet in the future.

He announced a top six on June 1 of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Oregon.

4-star UGA football target Xavier Worthy releases top six

The Georgia Bulldogs are among the top schools for four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy

The Georgia Bulldogs are among the top schools for four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Worthy is a member of the class of 2021 and is from Fresno, California (UGA’s Kendall Milton also hails from the area). Worthy plays football for Central East High School.

Worthy tweeted his top six schools:

Worthy puts UGA, Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, and LSU in his top schools. Where will the four-star wide receiver go?

Worthy would be a solid addition to Georgia’s class of 2021. Kirby Smart and Georgia are shaping up to have one of the more impressive recruiting classes  in the country once again.

The Dawgs are currently still seeking a talented wide receiver to commit in the class of 2021. Georgia has beefed up the offensive and defensive fronts already.

For Worthy to consider himself “The Real Flash”, then he must be a speedy receiver. The University of Georgia is continuing to select the top talent throughout the country to come to Athens.

Elite wideout places Michigan in final group

The Wolverines make the final cut, but the elite wideout has five other schools in top contention.

Michigan was hoping to get some good news on Monday in terms of the recruitment of one of its highest priorities in the 2021 class, and it looks like the Wolverines got it.

The maize and blue have been in high pursuit of speedy 2021 Fresno (CA) Central East four-star wide receiver Xavier Worthy, a player that’s not only been drawing the attention of the coaches, but many of the current players who have persistently made Twitter pitches for him to come to Ann Arbor. A player who runs a 10.55 100-meter dash, Worthy is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 141 prospect in the country and the 24th-best wide receiver in the class.

And on Monday, Worthy placed Michigan in his top six.

However, his top six is a who’s who of elite programs. He also includes Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Georgia and Auburn to be in his final mix.

Josh Gattis is leading the charge for Michigan in his recruitment.
