Coach Prime, Xavier Weaver discuss Colorado’s Week 3 matchup with CSU

Coach Prime and Xavier Weaver gave their early thoughts on Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown

The third and final game of Colorado’s nonconference slate is another fun one with Colorado State coming to Boulder for the first time in 14 years. Folsom Field is already sold out and both ESPN’s “College GameDay” and Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” are set to cover the Week 3 matchup

Following their win over Nebraska, the Buffs are ranked No. 21 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll and are the biggest story in college football. Colorado State, meanwhile, is coming off a bye week after falling to Washington State in its season opener.

Ahead of Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown, CU head coach Deion Sanders and wide receiver Xavier Weaver shared their thoughts with the media on Tuesday. Below are their best quotes:

Breaking down four 2024 NFL Draft WR prospects who impressed in the 2nd weekend of college football

The second full weekend of college football featured some starring turns from many 2024 NFL draft prospects.

In particular, four wide receiver prospects captured some attention for their performances in CFB Week 2. Here’s who stood out on first watch.

Xavier Weaver drawing massive praise from Buffs’ coaching staff

Brett Bartolone believes Xavier Weaver has “every tool to be an NFL receiver”

The Colorado Buffaloes’ wide receivers room is extremely talented, even with the departures of Montana Lemonious-Craig and Jordyn Tyson. Where do we even begin?

The Buffs got a pair of South Florida transfers in Jimmy Horn Jr. and Xavier Weaver, not to mention two-way star Travis Hunter, Javon Antonio and Omarion Miller. There are plenty of others, too, including Willie Gaines.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders has plenty of choices, and Buffs WRs coach Brett Bartolone recently sang the praises of Weaver (h/t Jake Schwanitz of DNVR Buffs):

“He’s got every tool to be an NFL receiver and do it at a high level,” Bartolone said. “He leads by example.”

Last season at USF, Weaver caught 53 passes for 718 yards and six scores in just nine games. Now, he joins former USF teammate Jimmy Horn Jr. and both payers are impressing at camp.

Bartolone knows what it’s like to play in the Pac-12. After all, he played college football at Washington State and led the Cougars with 53 receptions as a freshman.

This praise for Weaver is well-deserved, and Colorado’s WRs room could be a tough group to stop.

New Colorado WR Xavier Weaver’s highlights at South Florida

New Colorado WR Xavier Weaver made several highlight reel plays during his time at USF

The Colorado Buffaloes’ retooled offense is loaded with talent.

The wide receiver room lost some when Montana Lemonious-Craig and Jordyn Tyson entered the transfer portal following a huge spring game performance. However, the additions of USF WRs such as Jimmy Horn Jr. and Xavier Weaver will work wonders for an offense led by offensive coordinator Sean Lewis and quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Weaver had 53 receptions for 718 yards with six touchdowns at South Florida in 2022, including three 100-yard performances and two games with multiple touchdowns.

The talent Weaver brings is impressive, and here are some of the best plays he made during his time at USF:

Colorado added another USF transfer WR

Shedeur Sanders now has a pair of USF wide receivers to begin building chemistry with.

About two months after adding former Bulls receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. in December, the Buffs picked up a commitment from fellow USF transfer WR Xavier Weaver on Wednesday. Weaver led the Bulls last season in catches with 53, receiving yards (718) and receiving touchdowns (six). The fifth-year senior was also named second-team All-American Athletic Conference last season.

As we recently examined, there should be some competition in Colorado’s wide receivers room leading up to the 2023 season with Horn, Weaver, Jordyn Tyson and Montana Lemonious-Craig all worthy of playing time.
