Hawaii at Wyoming: Three things to know

  1. Traditionally, Hawaii has had some trouble traveling from the islands to the mainland, but that wasn’t a problem last week in a 34-19 win at Fresno State. Hawaii rolled up 552 total yards with 323 on the ground, while the defense forced four turnovers (3 interceptions and a fumble) for a plus-3 ratio.
  2. Last season, the Rainbow Warriors were 3-3 SU/ATS when traveling to the contiguous 48 states, including two trips to Boise. Take the regular-season meeting and conference championship loss out against the Broncos, and the Warriors were actually decent. However, they did face bottom feeders Nevada, New Mexico and UNLV, so the jury is still out, especially in back-to-back road games. They had one back-to-back situation to the mainland last season, winning 54-3 at Nevada on Sept. 28 and then falling 59-37 at Boise State on Oct. 12.
  3. Wyoming’s star RB Xazavian Valladay was held in check last week, managing just 87 yards against Nevada in a 37-34 loss in Reno. The Cowboys did allow just 76 yards on the ground, a strength of the Warriors, but Nevada QB Carson Strong picked them apart. Nevada finished with 420 passing yards, so Hawaii QB Chevan Cordeiro could be in line for a big night.

Hawaii at Wyoming: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Hawaii 34, Wyoming 26

Money line (ML)

Wyoming (+100) stung me last week, as I expected them to hit the road and dominate in Nevada. Things changed after three plays, as starting QB Sean Chambers was carted off with a leg injury. It didn’t look good as he was unable to put any pressure on it. I normally wouldn’t trust HAWAII (-121) in back-to-back mainland trips. Major traveling and current COVID-19 restrictions would be tough for any team to handle, but the Warriors are healthy, and explosive on offense.

Against the spread (ATS)

HAWAII (-1.5, -110) is a slightly better play against the number, as you pay a little less. I suggest betting either the Hawaii ML or the ATS line. The other option is split your regular wager in half and bet both.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 55.5 (-110) seems like a slam-dunk play here. Hawaii has an explosive offense, and even with backup QB Levi Williams under center for the Cowboys, they’ll be able to put up some points, too.

Wyoming at Nevada odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Wyoming Cowboys at Nevada Wolf Pack sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Wyoming Cowboys and Nevada Wolf Pack meet at MacKay Stadium in Reno, Nev., for a 7 p.m. ET Mountain West kickoff Saturday in the season opener for both. Below, we analyze the Wyoming-Nevada college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Wyoming at Nevada: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 5:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Wyoming -189 (bet $189 to win $100) | Nevada +155 (bet $100 to win $155)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wyoming -4 (-115) | Nevada +4 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 50.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Wyoming at Nevada: Three things to know

  1. The Cowboys of Wyoming are expected to be among the challengers to Boise State at the top of the Mountain West thanks to QB Sean Chambers and RB Xazavian Valladay, who rolled up a conference-best 1,265 rushing yards in 2019. The offensive line is an experienced group, which will keep them each whole.
  2. Nevada has made strides under head coach Jay Norvell, and is expected to make a move to challenge for a conference title. QB Carson Strong is one of the league’s top signal callers, and RBs Devonte Lee and Toa Taua provide veteran leadership in the backfield.
  3. The Cowboys love being favored on the road. They’re 5-0 ATS in their past five as favorites away from home, and they have covered four in a row in this series, too. The Wolf Pack were no match for the Cowboys in Laramie last season, as Wyoming blasted Nevada 31-3.

Wyoming at Nevada: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Wyoming 27, Nevada 20

Money line (ML)

WYOMING (-189) is just a little more expensive than I’d normally like to spend, but with its road history, it’s a worthwhile play on the money line. This team has a tremendous O-line and a stud running back, who led the conference last season.

Against the spread (ATS)

WYOMING -4 (-115) hammered Nevada last season in Laramie. The Cowboys will look to get the run game cooking early in this one. The Wolf Pack have experience returning, but their offensive line is a bit suspect and they had difficulty running the ball a year ago. That will be the difference in this game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 50.5 (-110) is a good play here. Both of these teams relied upon defense last season. The Under went 5-2 in the final seven for Nevada, and the Under is 12-3-1 in Wyoming’s past 16 on the road. The strong run game of the Cowboys is a friend to Under bettors, as it produces long, sustained, clock-eating drives.
