Washington Wizards at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Washington Wizards at Portland Trail Blazers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (29-36) play the Portland Trail Blazers (25-40) in the second night of a back-to-back and the third of a four-game Western Conference road trip. They tip off Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET at Moda Center. Below, we look at the Wizards vs. Trail Blazers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Wizards lost the first two games of their road trip, falling 115-109 Wednesday to the Los Angeles Clippers and 122-109 to the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night. They are 2-5 since returning from the All-Star break. They are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, only a half-game out of the 10 seed, which gets to participate in play-in games to determine the final two spots in the playoffs.

The Blazers have lost six straight games since coming back from the All-Star break, allowing 120 or more points to their opponents and scoring fewer than 100 points in five of those six games. They are 16-18 at home, but have dropped to 12th place in the conference, albeit only a game out of the final play-in spot.

Wizards at Trail Blazers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Wizards 115, Trail Blazers 101

Money line

PASS  on the money line because of the price unless you parlay it into another bet, in which case, your lock is to take the Wizards. No need to bet almost three times what you can win on a single bet.

The Blazers just are playing too poorly to bet to win. They have lost six straight games, all by 14 points or more and five of the six by at least 30 points.

The Wizards aren’t playing much better but have at least been competitive in every game.

Against the spread

The Wizards are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games and have not been a good ATS bet all season on the road. They are 10-20 ATS away from home.

But you can’t ignore the recent play of the Blazers, who have not covered the spread in their last six games and have lost by 30 points or more in five of the six. They lost by 14 when they were +13.5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Mar. 5.

Until they show any competitiveness, you can’t bet on them. Take the WIZARDS -6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Wizards have allowed an average of 118.0 points per game in their last five. However, the Blazers have only one game in their last six scoring in triple figures. They have averaged 94.0 points per game in that stretch and have allowed an average of 126.3 points per game to their opponents since the All-Star break.

Take UNDER 218.5 (-107).

Wizards at Trail Blazers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Trail Blazers 124, Wizards 117

Money line (ML)

The TRAIL BLAZERS (-160) are worth playing on the money line if you don’t want to mess with the points. The spread shouldn’t be a problem, although the Wizards (+135) come in on a rare heater. Washington has won and covered three in a row, while Portland enters on a six-game win and cover streak. Something’s gotta give, and it’s best to back the home side in this one.

Against the spread (ATS)

The TRAIL BLAZERS -3.5 (-115) have covered six in a row, including each of their past three games at home from Feb. 9-12, all against Eastern Conference teams. The Blazers downed Washington 132-121 Feb. 2, as three-point underdogs. You can expect a similar result in this one, as the Blazers cool off the Wiz in Rip City while staying hot against the number. Portland is 4-0 ATS in its past four against Washington, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 242.5 (-110) is the play in this one, as this number is just way too high. Yes, the teams did combine for 253 points back on Groundhog Day in the nation’s capital, but the Under is 4-0 in Washington’s past four on the road and 5-2 in the past seven as an underdog. The Over has connected in five of the past six for Portland, and it’s 4-1 in the past five overall, but the Under is 16-6 in the past 22 for the Blazers against teams with a losing record.
