Watch: Rookie James Wiseman hits trio of corner 3-pointers at Warriors training camp

After missing the first few practices, rookie James Wiseman appeared at Chase Center for the Golden State Warriors preseason training camp.

After being selected by the Golden State Warriors with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, James Wiseman wasn’t available for the start of training camp in the Bay Area.

According to reports, Wiseman was one of the two members of the Warriors to test positive for the coronavirus. After missing the individual session and the first three days of group practice, the Memphis product was back on the court at Chase Center.

On Thursday, Golden State’s Twitter account shared some photos of Wiseman on the floor at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Along with the image, the Warriors shared a video of the 7-foot-1 center knocking down a series of shots from beyond the arc. With the camera on, Wiseman buried three consecutive 3-pointers from the corner.

In a post-practice press conference with the media, Steve Kerr said Wiseman was allowed on the court for “very limited and light” shooting work.

He did some of that before practice started — very limited and light. This is just the early stages of him being able to get back out on the court. We’re just following the protocols. He got a few shots up, but that’s about it.

Kerr also said Wiseman would sit out Golden State’s first preseason game against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, Dec. 12. Kerr called it “unlikely” for Wiseman to play in either of the Warriors’ final two preseason games against the Sacramento Kings.

After only playing three games during his time at the college level with the Memphis Tigers, Wiseman and the Warriors can’t afford the 19-year-old to miss much more practice time. With limited time available on the practice floor, Wiseman will quickly have to build chemistry with his new teammates and adapt to the NBA game, all while trying to learn how the Warriors operate.

With his time in the preseason potentially off the table, Wiseman could make his Golden State debut in the regular-season opener against Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Breaking: Warriors select James Wiseman with No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft

With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors select Memphis big man James Wiseman.

After five consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, injuries to Klay Thompson and Steph Curry led to a 15-50 season for the Warriors. Instead of another trip to the NBA Finals, the Warriors earned a top-pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

After an extended wait, the Golden State Warriors were finally on the clock in the NBA draft. With the No. 2 overall pick on draft night, the Warriors selected Memphis center James Wiseman.

Although the former five-star recruit only played three games at the college level, Wiseman impressed during his short stint at Memphis. The 7-foot-1 big man averaged 19.7 points on 76.9% shooting from the field with 10.7 rebounds and three blocks per contest. The former McDonald’s All-American recorded a double-double effort in each of his three games in college basketball.

Warriors land Memphis center James Wiseman in another NBA mock draft

In the latest NBA mock draft from USA TODAY, the Golden State Warriors landed Memphis big man James Wiseman with the No. 2 overall pick.

With the 2020 NBA draft just under two weeks away, one prospect is becoming increasingly popular in mock predictions for the Golden State Warriors’ top pick.

During the final stages of draft season, Memphis big man James Wiseman continues to appear alongside the Warriors with the No. 2 overall selection on Nov. 18.

In the latest mock draft from USA TODAY’s Scott Gleeson, Jeff Zillgitt and Mark Medina, the Warriors land the former McDonald’s All-American with the second pick in the draft.

According to Gleeson, Zillgitt and Medina, Wiseman is an “ideal fit” for a roster that has Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Via USA TODAY:

Wiseman only got to provide a small sample size of his ability as an athletic big man with All-Star potential, as he left Memphis early in the season halfway through an NCAA suspension. But scouts know Wiseman can be a 20-and-10 big man if he’s given the right opportunity to blossom. He’ll be an ideal fit on a guard-savvy Warriors roster looking to rebound in 2020-21.

During his three-game stint at Memphis, Wiseman recorded a double-double in each contest. Over his time with Penny Hardaway’s Memphis squad, the former Gatorade National High School Player of the Year averaged 19.7 points on 76.9% shooting from the field with 10.7 rebounds and three blocks per contest.

At a recent workout with the Warriors on the east coast, Wiseman looked like a “beast,” according to a report from Marcus Thompson III of The Athletic.

Although Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney have had impressive moments during their time with the Golden State Warriors, Wiseman would give the Warriors a dynamic they haven’t had during the Stephen Curry era.

At 7-foot-1, Wiseman can run the floor with the athletic ability to jump out of the gym. While he continues to develop his stable jumper, the 19-year-old would give Golden State an immediate highlight-reel lob threat on offense and rim protector on defense.

If Steve Kerr and Bob Myers don’t trade the pick for an established veteran, Wiseman should be on a shortlist of candidates for the No. 2 overall selection.

Warriors select Memphis center James Wiseman in latest NBA mock draft from CBS Sports

In a new CBS Sports NBA mock draft from Colin Ward-Henninger, the Golden State Warriors select Memphis big James Wiseman with No. 2 pick.

It’s officially draft month.

With only a handful of weeks left until the highly-anticipated 2020 NBA draft, mock drafts are getting up their final predictions for what Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will do at the No. 2 overall pick.

In the latest CBS Sports NBA mock draft from Colin Ward-Henninger, the Golden State Warriors call on Memphis Tigers big man James Wiseman with the No. 2 overall pick in the first round. According to Henninger, Wiseman has “tantalizing upside.”

Via CBS Sports:

We’ll keep it simple. If the Warriors keep their pick, Wiseman and his tantalizing upside must appeal to them to immediately fill the center gap and also begin a bridge toward a post-Splash Brothers future.

Read the full CBS Sports mock draft from Ward-Henninger here.

Before joining Penny Hardaway’s Memphis Tigers, Wiseman was widely considered the top prospect in all of high school basketball. As a prep prospect, Wiseman was named to the Jordan brand classic and McDonald’s All-American team. The Memphis product was honored with the Gatorade National Player of the Year award.

Although his time at the college level only lasted three games, Wiseman recorded a double-double in each of his three games with Memphis. During his short college basketball career, Wiseman averaged 19.7 points on 76.9% shooting from the field with 10.7 rebounds and three blocks per contest.

In the Warriors Wire draft big board, Wiseman ranked at No. 4 on the list of 30 NBA draft prospects.

During the Stephen Curry era in the Bay Area, veteran bigs like Andrew Bogut, Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee have served as primary centers alongside the two-time Most Valuable Player. With his blend of size and raw athleticism, Wiseman would provide Curry and Kerr a new dynamic to their rotation.

As he develops his jumper and gains experience, Wiseman could roam the frontcourt as a rim protector and lob threat in his rookie season in the Bay Area.

As draft night quickly approaches, the Golden State Warriors only have time for some last-minute homework before Nov. 18.

James Wiseman lands with the Warriors in latest Bleacher Report NBA mock draft

In the latest NBA mock draft from Bleacher Report’s lead draft writer Jonathan Wasserman, the Golden State Warriors land James Wiseman with the No. 2 pick.

After an extended wait, the 2020 NBA Draft is finally less than a month away. As draft night approaches, mock drafts continue to release predictions for the Golden State Warriors top pick.

In Jonathan Wasserman‘s latest mock draft for Bleacher Report, the Warriors landed big-man prospect James Wiseman with the No. 2 overall selection.

According to Wasserman, there is “more support” for the Memphis big man in Golden State’s front office over Georgia’s Anthony Edwards if the Warriors don’t move the No. 2 pick in the draft.

Via Bleacher Report:

Odds are, the Warriors stay put despite all the trade chatter, and we’re hearing there is more support for James Wiseman than Anthony Edwards in Golden State’s front office. Deni Avdija, Obi Toppin and Tyrese Haliburton figure to remain in play, but it’s presumed they’re more trade-down targets.

If Bob Myers and Steve Kerr do select Wiseman with the No. 2 pick, the 19-year-old could serve as a “rim runner and finisher” as he adjusts to the NBA level, per Wasserman.

Though Wiseman isn’t considered as NBA-ready as others, the game would come easier to him in Golden State, where he could play off the team’s shooters and passers and work exclusively as a rim-runner and finisher. He’d give a rotation fueled by skill a useful jolt of athleticism in the middle.

Vie Wasserman’s full mock draft on Bleacher Report here.

Although Wiseman’s only college basketball season was cut short, his stint at Memphis resulted in three double-double performances in three games. During his run with Penny Hardaway and the Tigers, the highly touted prospect averaged 19.7 points on 76.9% shooting from the field with 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per contest.

Prior to his time at Memphis, Wiseman earned bids to the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic. The Nashville product was named Gatorade National Player of the Year and Tennessee Mr. Basketball.

In the Warriors Wire Big Board 1.0, Wiseman was the No. 4 ranked prospect in the top-30.

While Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green advance to the next stage of their careers, Wiseman’s presence underneath could give the Warriors the flexibility to reimagine their rotation inside out for the future.

With his 7-foot size paired with elite athleticism, the Warriors would add a new dynamic underneath upon Wiseman’s arrival.

While Kevon Looney and Marquese Chriss have proven they can contribute to Golden State’s frontcourt, the Warriors haven’t had a center prospect of Wiseman’s caliber in the Kerr era.

Warriors select athletic center prospect in latest NBA Mock Draft from NBC Sports

In the latest mock draft from Tyler Byrum of NBC Sports Washington, the Golden State Warriors land Memphis’ James Wiseman with the No. 2 selection.

From the moment the Golden State Warriors landed the No. 2 pick at the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery, one player has consistently landed in the Bay Area in mock predictions.

Despite only playing three games at the college level with the University of Memphis, James Wiseman has been a popular selection across NBA Mock Drafts. After being named Gatorade National Player of the Year and earning bids to the McDonald’s All American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, Wiseman quickly rose to the top of draft big boards heading into the 2019-20 season.

The combination of Golden State’s high pick paired with question marks in the frontcourt, there’s a reason the big man prospect has been linked to the Warriors in mock drafts.

In the latest NBA mock draft from Tyler Byrum of NBC Sports, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr land Wiseman with the No. 2 pick. According to Byrum, Wiseman “makes perfect sense” for the Warriors.

Via NBC Sports Washington:

That report aside, Wiseman makes perfect sense for the Warriors. As one of the best athletes of this class, he can fit right into Golden State’s system as a small five that also showed he is able to stretch the floor. He would also improve their defensive presence in the post and learn from one of the best point-forwards in the game with Draymond Green.

View Byrum’s full mock draft with NBC Sports here.

During his stint with Memphis, Wiseman averaged 19.7 points on 76.9% shooting from the field with 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in three games. In each game of his short college career, the 7-foot-1 center recorded a double-double.

Wiseman’s arrival to the Bay Area would inject a needed dose of athleticism to Golden State’s roster. The 19-year-old could bring a new dynamic to the Warriors’ center rotation alongside Marquese Chriss and Kevon Looney. With the amount of attention Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson draw to the perimeter, Wiseman would have ample space to work underneath.

Although there’s little clarity on what Myers and Kerr will do when they’re on the clock with the No. 2 overall pick on Nov. 18, Wiseman’s potential should earn consideration from any team on the clock at the top of the draft.
