The Badgers have been a strong team this season and unlike past years, these Badgers can score as 8 of 14 games have gone over the total.

Michigan State has played a difficult schedule and held its own this season. The Spartans come in on a 6-game winning streak after beating Michigan 59-52 on Saturday as a 3.5-point favorite. MSU last loss 70-63 to Northwestern on Dec. 4.

Defense will be the story of this game as the Spartans come in allowing just 64.9 points while Wisconsin is even better allowing only 62.4 points.

Both teams are good and have been playing well of late. Wisconsin, coming off its 1st loss since November and being at home will look to get back on track against a Spartans team that struggled in its prior outing.

PASS. No wager is the play here. Taking Wisconsin on the Moneyline, I will not double down on the spread as well.

Over/Under

UNDER 126.5 (-110) will be the winning play.

The Spartans only allow 64.9 points per game while Wisconsin ranks 35th in the nation allowing just 62.5 Neither of these offenses are overly reliable as well with both teams averaging less then 71 points per contest. This will be a defense-1st game and the Under is the way to go.

The Badgers knocking down 37.4% of their 3-point attempts (good for 56th-best in the nation) is a strong reason why they should be able to pull away. They are 1-1 ATS with a double-digit spread as well.

The Broncos are 2-7 ATS and really haven’t proven they can play competently on either side of the court. Wisconsin should be able to shut them down offensively and also abuse their 265th-best 3-point defense (allowing opponents to shoot 34.7% per game).

OKLAHOMA STATE (+145) is worth a roll of the dice as short ‘dogs in this bowl game. The Cowboys usually show out in bowl games, posting a 21-11 SU all-time record in bowl games, but that’s not why they’re the play.

Wisconsin (-170) suffered much heavier losses on their side due to the transfer portal, opt outs and a big injury to Braelon Allen. It’s too much to handle. QB Chase Wolf is expected to start, and he was 2-of-6 for 21 yards in his lone appearance this season.

The Cowboys likely will see a combination of veteran QB Garret Rangel and the coach’s son, QB Gunnar Gundy, under center. They have a touch more experience than Wolf, and they won’t have to deal with Benton and Herbig breathing down their necks.

Against the spread

OKLAHOMA STATE +3 (-102) would be a little more attractive at +3.5, but it’s not a bad play catching the 3 points. The better value is playing the money line straight up, however.

Over/Under

UNDER 44.5 (-109) is the lean here, as both teams will have some inexperience under center, while both sides also do not have their leading rusher, either.

It’s hard to imagine who is going to be moving the chains on either side. Of course, there are some big defensive players on both sides missing, too, which could open things up.

Go Under, but go a little lightly, mostly just due to the roster uncertainty. The guys who are playing are going to want to show out, and we could see some surprising performances.

The jump in class and the layoff are issues for the Mountain Hawks. But they may be catching the Badgers at an opportune moment: Off a big, emotional win against a rival and heading into a 7-day break of its own.

In a low-scoring environment, the points offered here are significant.

TAKE LEHIGH +23.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Slow-tempo Wisconsin has played in recent games that have air-mailed the total by 20 points. And fast-paced Lehigh has played in back-to-back Unders.

UW has done well to wrest control of the pace in just about all of its games so far. A bit of 3-point shooting regression cuts against the host Badgers, and this game does not figure to offer up much in the way of superfluous transition, 2nd-chance, and free-throw looks.

The Hawks knock down triples at a nifty 38.3% clip, but Wisconsin is an accomplished perimeter-defense squad. That likely lessens that impact.

Shading this number lower is the clear lean. The UNDER 133.5 (-105) is a workable partial-unit play. Look for 135 of higher to go full freight.

Wisconsin at (+150) is enticing, but considering it hasn’t played a difficult road game this season, I’d stay away. However, the Badgers did take down Marquette 80-77 in overtime Dec. 3 in their lone road contest.

Against the spread

LEAN WISCONSIN +4.5 (-115).

The Badgers have a solid roster and have 3 players averaging double figures.

Also, they have played better against top competition than the Hawkeyes have. Wisconsin lost to Kansas 69-68 on a neutral court in overtime. It has taken down USC, Maryland and Dayton, covering in all 3 as a favorite of 3.5 points or fewer.

Iowa lost 74-62 to No. 15 Duke on a neutral court. While the Hawkeyes are 5-0 ATS at home, the Badgers should pose a stronger battle than teams like Georgia Tech or Iowa State.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 134.5 (-110).

If there is one thing both sides have been great at this season, it is cashing Under tickets. Wisconsin is 4-5 O/U, while Iowa is 3-6 O/U.

The Badgers’ strength is in their defense, allowing the 24th-fewest points per game (59.8). They also hold their opponents to 40.5% from the field and 29.2% from deep.

Maryland is not going to go undefeated. There are big games coming up for the Terrapins which will be difficult to go through without a blemish.

While this is 1 of those games, Maryland should get through the Badgers in Madison. As the underdogs in this game, I would rather bet them moneyline then on the spread. The payout is better, and the 1.5 points does not move the needle for me to reconsider. This is my favorite play in this game.

Against the spread

PASS.

If you feel that Wisconsin will win, this is the way to go. With my feeling that Maryland will win the game outright, I would rather take the risk on the ML at +100 and not worry about the spread.

Over/Under

BET OVER 130.5 (-115)

Wisconsin has never been accused of being an offensive juggernaut. It tends to slow down the game and bore the life out of its opponent. In this game, Maryland will be able to get up enough where Wisconsin will need to press a bit and put up some points.

This will be a close fight to the end and there should be some last-minute fouling to get this game up. Bet Over 130.5 (-115).

The Flyers are exceptional near the hoop, they have an advantage in getting to the line in this match-up, and — with a more veteran roster — they are the likable side in this business trip to the Bahamas.

Wisconsin is just 1-2 SU/ATS in 3 games on the road this season, with the only victory against lowly Northwestern.

Against the spread

Playing Iowa +0.5 (-112) doesn’t make any sense, as there is no way this game can end up a tie. So just roll with the moneyline, which is slightly cheaper. There is no reason to make this bet.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 35 (-112) might be the best play on the board. This is an ultra-low number considering the fact Wisconsin is averaging a healthy 30.8 PPG, while Iowa has managed 28.5 PPG in its last 2 outings.

This won’t be confused for a video game, or a track meet, but we should easily see a total into the 40s despite pretty strong defenses on both sides.

This will be one of few opening-week games between 2 Power 5 programs and it will be a happy break from the monotony of 40-point blowouts between top 25 and quad 4 programs.

Stanford is not a terrible team. Wisconsin is also not a world beater. This line, despite being played in Milwaukee is a bit too high for my liking, even though it dropped 3 points from the opening.

Although Wisconsin put up 85 against South Dakota on Monday, this is not its normal output. It prefers to play lower scoring games. Stanford will oblige. This makes the +4.5 big for these 2 teams.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 135.5 (-112).

With both teams wanting to play games in the 60’s, it will be difficult for this game to find the pace to get over this number.

Wisconsin smothers teams on defense. Especially at home. This will be what happens here. While smothering on defense, the Badgers also prefer a game control offense which limits possessions. Take the Under 135.5 (-112) as my favorite play.

PURDUE (+105) is a decent play straight up on the road against underperforming Wisconsin (-125), but this comes with plenty of risk. The Boilermakers haven’t beaten the Badgers in 15 consecutive meetings dating back to Oct. 18, 2003, a 26-23 win in Madison. Of course, we haven’t seen a Wisconsin team struggle this much at any point during the span.

Look for the Boilermakers to finally get the monkey off their backs and get it done against the Badgers.

Against the spread

PURDUE +1.5 (-107) is a better play straight up at plus-money, unless you’re dead-set on this being a 1-point victory by Wisconsin. That’s the only way this play makes sense.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-110) is the lean, but very careful and play this extremely lightly.

The Under is 19-9 in Purdue’s past 28 games on the road, and 5-1 in the past 6 against teams with a losing overall record.

The Over has cashed in 5 in a row for Wisconsin, but the Under is 4-1 in the past 5 at home against teams with a winning road record. This total is going to be extremely close.
