Steelers set to celebrate 2024 Hall of Honor class in Week 14 matchup

Steelers legends Jason Gildon, Casey Hampton, Dick LeBeau, and Willie Parker will be honored at halftime for their incredible contributions.

Legends of the Black and Gold will be honored during halftime of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ matchup against the Cleveland Browns. LB Jason Gildon, NT Casey Hampton, DC Dick LeBeau, and RB Willie Parker, the 2024 Steelers Hall of Honor class, will be celebrated for their remarkable contributions to Pittsburgh football.

Hampton anchored the Steelers’ defense from 2001 to 2012, earning five Pro Bowl selections and helping secure two Super Bowl championships.

Gildon terrorized opposing quarterbacks, racking up 77 career sacks, the fourth most in franchise history, during his tenure from 1994 to 2003.

LeBeau, as defensive coordinator from 1995 to 1996 and 2004 to 2014, orchestrated one of the NFL’s all-time great defenses, leading Pittsburgh to Super Bowl victories in SB XL and SB XLIII.

Parker’s blazing speed defined the Steelers’ ground game, highlighted by his record-setting 75-yard rushing touchdown in Super Bowl XL.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wouldn’t be the same beloved Black and Gold symbol of excellence we all know and love without the efforts of Gildon, Hampton, LeBeau, and Parker.  Here is to celebrating what they have accomplished in the Steel City.

Super Bowl Records

Who were the top performers in Super Bowl history?

Just in case the Chiefs-Eagles game produces high statistics, here are the top performances heading into Super Bowl LVII.

Passing

Tom Brady is well represented as expected, but Kurt Warner was a difference maker when he dropped back to pass. These are the best of the best, so it is a bit surprising that five quarterbacks threw at least four interceptions in a Super Bowl.

Rushing

Timmy Smith only had just four carries in the regular season as a rookie. But he earned his first NFL-start in the Super Bowl and made history, but then held out the next summer, finally reported overweight, and had an uneven year marked by injuries (155-470-3). He was released the next year and only carried six more times in the NFL. Smith only had one notable game and it was his first start, but it also set the all-time rushing record of 204 rushing yards in a Super Bowl and he won the Super Bowl MVP. If you can time a career-best game, the Super Bowl is a great choice.

Receiving

It seems only appropriate that Jerry Rice still holds the Super Bowl receiving yards record 33 years later. While the last 20 years held the highest catches, Pre-2000 was well represented in yardage. Muhsin Muhammad played 14 mostly moderate seasons in the NFL though he had his magic year in 2004. But he left his mark in the record book when he caught an 85-yard touchdown against the Patriots in the 2003 Super Bowl.

Great plays from the Steelers-Seahawks matchup are forever engrained in our minds: Running back Willie Parker’s record-breaking 75-yard touchdown run, the first rushing TD by a Steelers quarterback in the post-season, or wide receiver Antwann Randel-El throwing a 43-yard bomb to WR Hines Ward for what would be the game-winning score.

Fans can watch the Steelers thrilling victory over the Seahawks from start to finish on their desktop or mobile device on Sunday, June 7. The game will kick off at 6:27 p.m. on the Steelers Facebook page and YouTube channel.
