Vikings select Senior Bowl standout in recent CBS Sports mock draft

In a rather spicy mock draft, CBS Sports’ Will Brinson has the Minnesota Vikings taking Georgia Tech DL Keion White.

During free agency, the Minnesota Vikings made it a point to address the front seven on defense. Between the signings of edge rusher Marcus Davenport and defensive lineman Dean Lowry, the Vikings have set themselves up to avoid the position in the NFL Draft, if needed.

However, CBS Sports’ Will Brinson has the Vikings selecting Georgia Tech edge rusher Keion White in his first mock draft.

Defense has to be a priority in this draft for the Vikings and adding some youth up front would make a ton of sense. A CB would be fine here too.

White would be an intriguing fit in Brian Flores’ defense. He has the size profile to play in different positions, which Flores values from his defensive linemen. White shined at the Senior Bowl, which likely boosted his draft stock, meaning this pick would not be a reach.

However, an edge rusher isn’t the Vikings’ pressing need. While they could select one and, as Brinson explained, get younger at the position, the Vikings would be better served drafting a wide receiver or cornerback to help sure up those positions.

Brian Schottenheimer explains why Seahawk Russell Wilson is underrated

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer believes he knows the reason quarterback Russell Wilson remains underrated.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will continue his campaign for this year’s Most Valuable Player despite constantly being overlooked for the honor.

Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer recently explained why he thinks Wilson continues to be underrated around the league.

“Unless you truly love the Seahawks and watch the Seahawks, I think what he does just comes so naturally and easy that people underestimate him,” Schottenheimer told CBS Sports’ Will Brinson on the Pick Six Podcast. “I know one thing, I’m thrilled and excited about 2020 because I think the chatter about the MVP votes will motivate him. He is ready to work. He’s always ready to work, but he’s the wrong guy to doubt. He’s the wrong guy to say, ‘Nah, he can’t do that.’

“He will carry a grudge and he will work his ass off to make it go.”

And maybe all the chatter about who throws the best and worst deep ball in the NFL could provide the right challenge.

“It’s not a big secret that Russell Wilson’s an unbelievable deep-ball thrower,” Schottenheimer explained. “Again, I’ve been blessed to be around some great ones and he’s at the top of the list of guys that have that innate ability to add a little bit of air whenever he needs to or kind of take something off it when he needs to fit a ball in deep. He’s terrific at that.”

Will Brinson’s latest 2020 mock draft has perfect scenario playing out for Bucs

See who Will Brinson believes the Buccaneers will draft in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft to help protect quarterback Tom Brady.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers know that the key to winning next year is keeping quarterback Tom Brady upright. The Bucs allowed 47 sacks last season on quarterback Jameis Winston, while the Patriots only allowed the six-time Super Bowl champ Brady to get sacked 27 times.

While Brady still appears to be in peak physical shape, he’s going to be 43 when the 2020 season starts. The Bucs can’t allow him to take a pounding like Winston did. And as we get closer to this month’s NFL draft, it seems clear to many analysts that offensive tackle is the Bucs’ top target in round one, where they hold the 14th pick.

Will Brinson’s new mock draft over at CBS Sports predicts the Bucs will select OT Andrew Thomas out of Georgia. “Big time score here for the Bucs, who land a top tier tackle prospect without having to trade up. They really want this to play out,” Brinson said of the selection.

Again, it seems to be more a question of which offensive lineman the Bucs take at 14 rather than if they’ll take one. Todd McShay’s post-free agency mock draft had the Buccaneers taking OT Mekhi Becton out of Louisville. Brinson’s mock, however, had Becton going all the way at No. 4 to the New York Giants. It’ll be interesting to see which scenario ultimately plays out for the Bucs.
