What are they saying about LSU after postponement vs. Alabama?

LSU football had a game against Alabama wiped out this weekend due to COVID-19, but that didn’t mean there was a shortage of news.

For the second time this season, LSU football had its regularly scheduled game postponed.

LSU’s home game against Alabama was scratched due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the LSU football program. An official rescheduled date for the game has yet to be announced by the SEC, but the Lafayette Daily Advertiser reports the target date of Dec. 5 may be the likely date.

Scheduling LSU-Alabama for Dec. 5 would require some shifting around with the SEC schedule. Per the Lafayette Daily Advertiser report;

LSU is scheduled to host Ole Miss (2-4) at the moment on Dec. 5, while Alabama is scheduled to play at Arkansas on Dec. 5. The plan the SEC is working on has the Alabama-Arkansas game moving to Dec. 12, and the LSU-Ole Miss game switching to Dec. 19 – the day of the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta that neither team is expected to reach.

That could set up a brutal end to the regular season schedule for the Tigers. A week after facing No. 1 Alabama, LSU is scheduled to face Florida in another rescheduled game.

Meanwhile, it seems as though Alabama may be poking some fun at LSU during this time of crisis. Alabama’s official Twitter account took a slight jab at LSU for not being able to “come through” to play their game this past weekend. The tweet was an advertisement for free copies of a new video game.

Alabama football throws shade at LSU during open date

Not sure if this is related or not, but it certainly draws a fine line on who can and cannot mock LSU football…

Former Ohio State and Florida national championship head coach Urban Meyer has been one of the biggest reasons to watch the studio coverage of college football on FOX this year. On Saturday, while discussing this season’s struggles by LSU, Penn State, and Michigan, Meyer broke down different reasons why college football teams will struggle.

The segment certainly caught the eye of at least one former LSU football player, with former All-American offensive lineman Will Blackwell sharing the video on his Twitter account.

One area where LSU has certainly struggled has been with the defense. LSU won’t be expected to be making any changes with defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, but that wasn’t about to stop some from throwing out the idea of LSU hiring Will Muschamp to take over the reins. Muschamp was let go as head coach by South Carolina on Sunday.

Muschamp previously was an assistant at LSU. In 2001, Muschamp was a linebackers coach for former Tigers head coach Nick Saban. Muschamp was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2002 and held the role for three seasons before following Saban to the NFL with the Maimi Dolphins. Muschamp was the head coach at South Carolina since 2006 and accumulated a record of 28-30 (56-51 overall with his years as Florida’s head coach). Muschamp will be likely to be a strong defensive coordinator candidate for a program in need of an upgrade at the position. But don’t count on LSU being on the short list for Muschamp’s services.

As for who may replace Muschamp moving forward at South Carolina? Among the popular names to keep an eye on is former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze. Freeze has Liberty out to an 8-0 record this season. Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian may also be a name to watch, according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. But the name with the closest LSU ties may be former offensive assistant Joe Brady, who is currently in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers.

Brady would be a terrific hire by South Carolina, especially if he can manage to find a way to bring Joe Burrow back to the SEC with him.
