With lightning speed, a carpet python leaped out from under a chilli bush, pounced on a 9-week-old puppy and quickly wrapped itself around the helpless pet, and it was all caught on video from a backyard security camera in Australia.
The incident occurred in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, last week at the home of Michelle Van Schlouwen, whose puppy Jasper was outside taking care of his business.
Jasper never had a chance as the python’s attack came out of nowhere. The puppy’s cries alerted Van Schlouwen and her daughter, who raced outside.
“It was just panic, so I just ran and I got to the end of the patio, and then I just sort of froze and screamed because I just saw this snake, the python just was wrapping all around him,” Van Schlouwen told WIN News Sunshine Coast.

“In that first moment we used a cardboard Christmas wrap roll to try and knock the snake off him but quickly realized it was useless and we would need to pull the snake off by hand,” she said in her YouTube description. “The carpet python was reluctant to let the puppy go and the security vision shows how quickly it immobilized our active pup.”
Van Schlouwen picked up the python and swung it around until it finally let go of Jasper.
The puppy was lucky to have escaped with only a bite to its left ear and a bruised lung, according to Daily Mail Australia. It would only have taken minutes for the carpet python to suffocate the small dog.
“It [was] very intense,” the daughter, Mikaela, told WIN News. “It felt so long that the snake was wrapped around. I’m glad we got to him in time.”
