Central Michigan at Western Michigan odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Central Michigan at Western Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Central Michigan Chippewas (4-4, 2-2 MAC) and Western Michigan Broncos (5-3, 2-2) tangle in a midweek directional-Michigan affair Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich. Below, we look at the Central Michigan vs. Western Michigan odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Central Michigan is coming off a 39-38 home loss to Northern Illinois (Oct. 23). The one-point loss is part of a trend: the Chippewas have played in four one-score games since Sept. 25. Overall this season, CMU has been solid on offense, especially in the passing game (288.0 yards per game-22nd FBS) and shaky on defense, especially against the pass (270.5 yards allowed per game-113th).

Western Michigan has been more of a middle-of-the-road balanced offense while posting good numbers on defense. WMU has yielded just 320.8 total yards per contest; that ranks 20th in the nation. The Broncos have lost two of their last three after starting the season 4-1.

Central Michigan at Western Michigan odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Western Michigan 38, Central Michigan 28

Money line

Central coughed up a 35-18 lead in its loss to Northern Illinois. The Chippewas’ ability to move the ball – especially through the air – outshines their scoring (69th FBS) numbers. Red-zone (and inside-40) performances have been lackluster, and CMU has also been a subpar group in converting third downs. (The Chippewas went just 1-for-10 on third downs in last year’s 52-44 setback against the Broncos, Nov. 18).

Western is getting too much of a lean from the public here. CENTRAL MICHIGAN (+300) offers enough return to swim upstream and play for some plus money.

Against the spread

Freshman QB Daniel Richardson and the CMU passing attack have put up consistent 60%, 275-yard performances. In wins and losses, at home and abroad, and against different types of defenses. Figure Central Michigan closing out this one with a single-digit deficit.

BACK THE CHIPPEWAS +9.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Lots of crisscrossing signals on how best to play this one on what is forecasted as a chilly night in Kalamazoo. PASS.

Western Michigan at Michigan odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Western Michigan at Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Western Michigan Broncos and Michigan Wolverines will get their seasons underway Saturday. Kickoff at Michigan Stadium is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the Western Michigan at Michigan odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Western Michigan takes the short jaunt across Interstate 94 from Kalamazoo to Ann Arbor to battle in The Big House. The Broncos will look to carry over the momentum from last season’s 4-2 SU season, although they did drop the final two games on their schedule.

Michigan hosts Western Michigan for the eighth time. They lead the all-time series 7-0, including a 49-3 win Sept. 8, 2018, in the most recent meeting.

Western Michigan at Michigan odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 41, Western Michigan 30

Money line

Michigan (-900) will cost you nine times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk for not much reward, especially against a dangerous foe from Western Michigan (+570).

AVOID.

Against the spread

WESTERN MICHIGAN +16.5 (-105) isn’t likely to pull off the upset a la Appalachian State at the Big House nearly 14 years ago to the day. However, the Broncos are a dangerous opponent like the Mountaineers that day, mainly because of QB Kaleb Eleby who could easily start at some Big Ten schools. The Broncos also boast a solid pass rush and they were second in the MAC last season with 19 sacks in six outings.

Over/Under

The lean is to the OVER 67.5 (-108), as both of these teams have offenses that could put up some impressive totals. The one concern for the Broncos is whether they can continue to put up big offensive totals after losing No. 1 WR D’Wayne Eskridge, who is now playing on Sundays.

Western Michigan at Butler odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Western Michigan Broncos at Butler Bulldogs sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Western Michigan Broncos and Butler Bulldogs tip off their college basketball seasons at the Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Western Michigan-Butler college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Western Michigan at Butler: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Western Michigan +1200 (bet $100 to win $1,200) | Butler -3334 (bet $3,334 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Western Michigan +19 (-110) | Butler -19 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 131.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Western Michigan at Butler: Three things to know

  1. Butler was getting dressed, getting ready to face Providence in a 4-5 game at the Big East Tournament on March 12 when the 2019-20 season ended. We haven’t seen the Bulldogs since a 72-71 thrilling regular-season finale win at Xavier on March 7.
  2. Butler won 22 regular-season games, including a 3-0 straight up and ATS run to improve its potential seeding for the NCAA tournament. Of course, that was all for naught. The Bulldogs have three returning starters from that team in F Bryce Golden, F Bryce Nze and G Aaron Thompson, who was named the preseason Big East Defensive Player of the Year. G Jair Bolden, a transfer from South Carolina, also bolsters the frontcourt.
  3. Western Michigan fumbled its way through a 13-18 regular-season campaign, and was just 3-12 away from home. The Broncos are not expected to be much better this season, either, as the media almost unanimously selected them to finish in the basement of the MAC.

Western Michigan at Butler: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Butler 79, Western Michigan 56

Money line (ML)

You can’t take Butler (-3334) and expect to have any kind of long-term success wagering. Yeah, you’ll hit plenty of winners with minimal gains, and you might even hit 20 or 30 winners in a row. When that loss comes, and it always does, all of that good work will be for nothing, and your bankroll will be gone. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

BUTLER -19 (-110) is a strong play at Hinkle against a Western Michigan side that is not very good, and will not be very good at any point. They’ll get off to an especially rough start against a Bulldogs side which won 22 games a season ago. Butler has won 58 straight games against non-conference foes, and 21 straight home openers. The Broncos will wilt under the pressure of Thompson and company, and the Bulldogs will pull away in the second half.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 131.5 (-110) is only worth playing lightly in this one. Butler isn’t an up-tempo team, and defense is its hallmark. That’s normally never good for an Over play, but Western is that bad, and even Butler will roll up nearly 80 points on them, about four buckets higher than its season average of 72.8 last season.

  • Money line: Western Michigan -121 (bet $121 to win $100) | Central Michigan +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Western Michigan -1.5 (-106) | Central Michigan +1.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Western Michigan at Central Michigan: Three things to know

  1. Western Michigan stunned Toledo last week with a come-from-behind 41-38 victory. Trailing 38-28 after a Rockets TD with 2:54 to go, the Broncos scored with 45 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 38-34 – they missed the PAT. Western Michigan then recovered an onside kick and went on to score the go-ahead TD with 17 seconds remaining on a fake spike play, which tricked everyone.
  2. The Broncos have won and covered both of their games, including a 58-13 win at Akron in their only previous road contest. The Over has connected in each game for WMU, too, as they’re averaging 49.5 points per game, which rank second in the country. On defense, they’re allowing 25.5 PPG. QB Kaleb Eleby has passed for 546 yards, and WR D’Wayne Eskridge is a star in the making with 245 receiving yards and speed to burn in the return game.
  3. Central, 2-0 SU/ATS, thumped Northern Illinois 40-10 as 5.5-point favorites last week. The Chips have stepped up defensively, yielding just 294.5 total YPG to rank eighth, while allowing 92.0 rushing yards per game to check in at ninth. They’re also 16th in the country with just 18.5 PPG allowed.

Western Michigan at Central Michigan: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Central Michigan 36, Western Michigan 31

Money line (ML)

CENTRAL MICHIGAN (+100) is a good play on the money line at home. The defending West Division champs have the defense to hold Eleby and Eskridge in check, and the Chips offense has looked just as potent as their rivals from Kalamazoo.

Know this wager comes with risk, however, as CMU has dropped four straight home games against Western, including a 35-10 shellacking in 2018 in the most recent game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

Against the spread (ATS)

CENTRAL MICHIGAN +1.5 (-115) might be struggling lately in this rivalry, but it’s cashing tickets most everywhere else. Western Michigan is just 2-7 ATS in the past nine on the road, and 4-17 ATS in the previous 21 following a cover. CMU is 7-1 ATS in the past eight at home, and 8-3 ATS in the past 11 overall. For what it’s worth, the Chippewas are a sparkling 10-0-1 ATS in their past 11 appearances on a Wednesday.

Sure, the road team is 7-1 ATS in the past eight in this series, and the Broncos are 4-0 ATS in the past four trips to CMU, but go against those trends and roll with the Chips.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 58.5 (-115) is the way to go here, going 6-2-1 in Western’s past nine road games and six of the past eight at home for Central. The Over is also 9-4 in the past 13 for the Chips against a winning team.

Previewing Wednesday’s Toledo Rockets at Western Michigan Broncos sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Toledo Rockets (1-0, 1-0 MAC) and Western Michigan Broncos (1-0, 1-0) meet in Kalamazoo, Mich., for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff Wednesday. Below, we analyze the Toledo-Western Michigan college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Toledo +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Western Michigan -129 (bet $129 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Toledo +2.5 (-110) | Western Michigan -2.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 57.5 (O: -115 | U: -106)

Toledo at Western Michigan: Three things to know

  1. Toledo boat-raced rival Bowling Green last week by a 38-3 score, taking back the Battle for I-75 trophy in the rivalry game. The Rockets were good for 524 total yards, including 310 yards on the ground, while yielding just 267 total yards, of which 128 were through the air. They figure to get a much bigger test this week.
  2. Rockets RBs Shakif Seymour rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while Bryant Koback added 74 yards on 21 carries in last week’s victory. QB Eli Peters tossed four touchdowns and ran for 67 yards, showing off his dual-threat ability.
  3. Western Michigan pounded Akron 58-13 in a road opener last week, including a 28-0 run in the second half to pull away for good. The Broncos registered 484 total yards, 266 through the air and 218 on the ground. Defensively they were stout, allowing just 256 total yards, including 126 through the air. QB Kaleb Eleby hooked up with stud WR D’Wayne Eskridge for 114 of his 262 passing yards.

Toledo at Western Michigan: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Western Michigan 31, Toledo 26

Money line (ML)

WESTERN MICHIGAN (-129) is worth a small-unit play on the money line, especially if the spread were to rise to 3 and a hook. The Broncos were 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS in six games at Waldo Stadium last season. They’ll be looking to avenge a 31-24 loss at the Glass Bowl last Oct. 5.

Against the spread (ATS)

WESTERN MICHIGAN -2.5 (-110) is 6-1-1 ATS across the past eight games game at home, including 5-1 ATS in the previous six as a home favorite. Toledo has failed to cover in the past six on the road, and is 2-10 ATS in the past 12 as an underdog. Roll with the trends here, which are very strong.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 57.5 (-106) is worth playing lightly. It hit rather easily in last season’s battle, and the Under is 6-2-1 in the previous nine for Western Michigan as a favorite. The Under is also 6-1 in their past seven in Kalamazoo. While the Over is the dominant trend for Toledo, the Under is 10-3 across its past 13 appearances on a Wednesday, including last week’s opening win over Bowling Green.
