How former Alabama players in the NFL performed in Week 1

See how former Alabama players performed in Week 1 of the NFL season!

Alabama had 53 former players on active rosters to begin the NFL season. The next closest is Ohio State with 47 active players on active rosters. It is safe to say that head coach Nick Saban and his staff have done a phenomenal job of sending their players to the league. It is a testament to how much success Alabama has seen since Saban arrived in 2007.

Several players that highlight the list of players on active rosters are Derrick Henry, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Tua Tagovailoa. All three are captains of their respective teams. Interestingly enough, Alabama has a player on almost every NFL team outside of the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers.

Some of the rookies from Alabama suffered injuries either during training camp or in their time at Alabama. Therefore, they will miss a period of time before making their debuts. Players like Jameson Williams, John Metchie III, Slade Bolden, and Brian Robinson Jr. are all out for several weeks.

Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at how former Alabama players performed in Week 1 of the NFL season.

Instant analysis of Vikings 23-7 week 1 win over the Packers

The Vikings kicked off the Kevin O’Connell era with a huge win over the rival Packers

The Kevin O’Connell Era got off to a rousing start with a 23-7 victory over the rival Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Jumping out to a quick start, quarterback Kirk Cousins hit Justin Jefferson with a five-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game. Throughout the rest of the first half, Cousins and Jefferson were playing on a different level in the first half. The two connected for four receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

They ended up connecting for nine receptions for a career-high 184 yards and two touchdowns. O’Connell did a great job scheming route concepts to spring Jefferson wide open consistently. When he wasn’t, Cousins used great ball placement to get the ball to the star third-year wide receiver out of LSU.

The Vikings offensive line was much improved but rookie starting right guard Ed Ingram showed his inexperience when he was dominated by stud defensive tackle Kenny Clark for a sack in the first half.

The defense overall was solid. They forced two turnovers by Aaron Rodgers and had a goal-line stand in the first half to set the tone.

One of the bright spots was the pass defense. The Vikings allowed only 6.7 yards per attempt on the day and sacked Aaron Rodgers four times on the day.

After finishing the first half 17-0, the Vikings had a chance to do something that they didn’t do during the Mike Zimmer era: put the opponent away early by running up the score. They ended up playing relatively conservative in the second half and it didn’t end up mattering as the defense shut down the Packers offense in the second half.

Up next for the Vikings are the Philadelphia Eagles, who beat the Detroit Lions 38-35 on Sunday afternoon. After getting up 38-21 in the third quarter, they allowed the Lions to get back into the game rather easily. They love to run the football and will challenge the Vikings defense with RPOs.

Stay tuned throughout the week as we preview the game better than anyone else.

Vikings rank poorly on PFT’s power rankings

One site doesn’t rank the Vikings very highly

The national media have been very high on the Minnesota Vikings during the offseason. There have been a lot of predictions that have seen the Vikings winning the division and making waves in a weaker NFC.

On the other end of the spectrum is Mike Florio and Pro Football Talk. While most have the Vikings in the top-15, Florio has the Vikings all the way down at 22.

Considering the Vikings finished with the 21st-ranked record in the National Football League last season, the ranking has some merit. What this doesn’t factor in is the massive changes the Vikings have made to change the culture.

The offense and defense have a new scheme that they are working with and the buzz is robust in the building. Seemingly gone are the days of a run-focused, conservative offense and the defense will be aggressive in a similar, yet different fashion.

Needless to say, the Vikings are much too low on this list.

Winners and losers from Week 1 of college football

Who stood out in Week 1 of the college football season?

College football is officially back in full swing. Fans were treated to an epic opening weekend with no storage of excitement.

No. 3 Georgia made a huge statement in its dominant 49-3 victory over No. 11 Oregon. The defending champs have reloaded and are ready to defend their title.

No. 2 Ohio State outlasted No. 5 Notre Dame in a bit of a defensive battle at the Horseshoe. The Buckeyes pulled away late to win 21-10 despite an impressive effort from the Irish.

Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson was one of the most dynamic players in the country over the weekend. He led his Gators to a thrilling 29-26 upset over No. 7 Utah.

LSU and Florida State got together on Sunday in what turned out to be a chaotic affair. LSU scored what looked to be a game-tying touchdown after some questionable coaching decisions on both sides and proceeded to have the PAT blocked. The Seminoles escaped with the 24-23 win after the roller coaster of a game.

Here is a look at some of the winners and losers from Week 1 of the 2022 college football season.

2 former Green Bay Packers excited for first game against them

Both Smith and Sullivan are ready to play their former team

The Minnesota Vikings have made a habit of bringing in former Green Bay Packers and this team is no different.

The Minnesota Vikings have had some high-profile signings in the past. While Brett Favre is obviously the biggest of them all, the Vikings have also signed Greg Jennings and Ryan Longwell who both played major roles on the Vikings during their time with the franchise.

This offseason, the Vikings added two more players from their biggest rival and both of them are on the defensive side of the football.

Chandon Sullivan and Za’Darius Smith were both important parts of the Packers defense and will play their first game against their former team on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Sullivan told reporters that he will be “full of emotions” when playing his former team. The fifth-year player spent the last three seasons with the Packers where he played in all 49 regular season games with 20 starts.

The focus is on Smith, as the Packers released him despite being one of the NFL’s best sack artists. The game has him excited.

“Very excited, man,” Smith said. “I can’t wait. I’ve been preparing for this time to come for a while now, so it’s finally come, and now I’m ready. They did (release me), and I came to the other side. But you know at the end of the day, it’s a game and we all get to play and do something that we love, and I just can’t wait to go against my old team.’’

The game will be full of emotions as it is a major rivalry in the NFL but for these two, it will mean just a bit more.

Alabama Football injury report heading into Week 2 vs. Texas Longhorns

The latest injury report for Alabama Football following Week 1.

Alabama was fortunate in Week 1 as there were no injuries that occurred throughout the game. There was an early concern that Emil Ekiyor was out due to injury. However, Saban clarified Ekiyor’s absence during his postgame press conference. Charlie Potter reported that Ekiyor didn’t start as a result of missing five practices this past week. He did, however, see some action on Alabama’s second-team offense.

Outside of last week’s injury report, Alabama had no other injuries to report at this time. The expectation is that starting tight end and fifth-year senior Cameron Latu will be able to return for their week two matchup against Texas. Several freshmen suffered injuries during fall practices and won’t be back for several weeks.

Another player that wasn’t on the latest injury report was Tyler Harrell. He was seen in a walking boot on the sideline. If that is any indication it is that he will likely miss some time. There have been no reports regarding the significance of his injury.

Today, Roll Tide Wire will provide the latest injury report heading into their Week 2 contest against Texas.

With all four quarters against Utah State in the books, here are the stats from the final box score from Alabama’s Week 1 game.

Twitter explodes as Bryce Young flashes athleticism on opening drive

Bryce Young already impressing the nation with his athleticism
