SMU at Temple +17.5 (-106)
The Mustangs are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven road games, and they make a bigger-than-normal trip East for this one. Owls QB Anthony Russo is out with a shoulder injury and will be spelled by sophomore QB Trad Beatty. That appears to have bettors a little too spooked, and there is value is this sizable number. Southern Methodist isn’t bad, and Temple isn’t good, but both sides are being shaded the wrong way in a line a full 10 points higher than it was when these programs met a year ago in Dallas.

New Mexico +15.5 (-110) at Hawaii
New Mexico heads into this contest in Honolulu after a disappointing 38-21 season-opening loss to San Jose State a week ago. The Lobos were outscored 17-0 over the final 18 minutes of that game. Statistically, NMU played better over that stretch but was undone by a shaky performance in converting third downs.
Hawaii defeated Fresno State 34-19 in its lone win in two tries this season. In that victory, the Rainbow Warriors went 11-for-16 on third downs and were plus-3 in turnovers. Hawaii won last year’s meeting with New Mexico (45-31) in a game that saw both teams gain 500 yards in total offense. Peg the Lobos as being capable on offense, at least enough so to stay within a couple of scores in Saturday’s game.
Boston College at Syracuse +14.5 (-115)
Boston College has won two games by one score. The Eagles played Clemson tough last week in a 34-28 loss, but bettors could be overreacting to a contest that saw the Tigers outgain BC., 448 yards to 227. The Eagles are likely to be banged up as they head out for a road game for the second time in as many weeks.
For Boston College, this game is also sandwiched between games against Clemson and Notre Dame. The Eagles are 0-for-3 against the spread in their last three games prior to taking on the Irish.
Syracuse is banged up in the defensive backfield, but the Orange figure to be able to stay on schedule just enough on offense to log some productive drives and finish within 10-to-14 points of the Eagles.
