The Indianapolis Colts (0-1) were on the wrong side of an upset Sunday as they lost 27-20 against the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0) at TIAA Bank Field.
Whether it was the up-and-down performance from quarterback Philip Rivers, the lack of consistent push in the run game or simply any phase of the defense, the Colts were flat in the second half and allowed the Jaguars to steal a game from them.
>>>Studs and Duds from Week 1<<<
Here’s a look at the snap counts on offense from the Week 1 loss:
Analysis
- Parris Campbell led the wide receiver room in snaps during his strong outing. He also led the Colts in targets and receiving yards.
- Nyheim Hines led the backfield after Marlon Mack’s injury, but there’s a chance he would have done so even if Mack hadn’t gone down. The Colts are awaiting MRI results on Mack’s Achilles.
- Rookie Michael Pittman Jr. saw the fourth-most snaps in the wide receiver room. He finished with just two targets.
- Jonathan Taylor should be in for more than a 35% snap count if Mack is to miss a lot of time.
Here’s a look at the defensive and special teams snap counts from Week 1:
Analysis
- Malik Hooker and Khari Willis were the only safeties to play on defense in Week 1.
- CB Xavier Rhodes saw more snaps than Kenny Moore.
- Denico Autry is the clear No. 2 defensive end behind Justin Houston, despite playing more snaps than any edge rusher.
- Jordan Glasgow, Zaire Franklin and George Odum are the special teams aces.
- Ben Banogu saw just 14% of the defensive snaps, the fewest among all defensive linemen.
The Colts couldn’t come away with a Week 1 win on the road despite being heavy favorites to open the season. They will regroup for their home opener against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, a team that just allowed 43 points at home.
