Still-unsigned New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees made a guest appearance on The Greg Hill Show with Boston-based WEEI Radio, sharing his take on New England Patriots passer Tom Brady’s pending free agency as well as his own experience on the open market. But when asked whether he’ll be entertaining offers from teams besides the Saints, Brees answered with a resounding negative.
“Listen, I have no intention of going anywhere,” Brees said. “I don’t care what the offer would be or what the situation might be, I am Who Dat Nation for life.”
That was something of a foregone conclusion based off his previous comments, but it’s still nice to hear Brees repeat it. He received inquiries from teams including the Minnesota Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals (with at least $60 million on the table) during his last stint with free agency, but Brees has confidence that the squad built around him in New Orleans is strong enough to win another Super Bowl.
He’s also confident that Brady won’t be leaving for greener pastures. While Brees admitted that he was speaking more from instinct than any inside information, he said, “I love Tom Brady. He’s a legend. And I don’t see him going anywhere.”
It’ll be fascinating to see where Brady ends up playing in 2020. He’s the next big domino to fall after Brees made it known that he intends to return to New Orleans, with Brady’s decision impacting a number of teams around the league. If he signs with, say, the Tennessee Titans or Las Vegas Raiders, that would put starting-quality quarterbacks like Ryan Tannehill and Derek Carr on the outs; Brady could also join an up-and-coming team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, taking options off the board for Teddy Bridgewater. But who would end up starting in New England?
More importantly: isn’t it nice to not have this problem, with Brees committed to another run with the Saints?
