Previewing Wednesday’s Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Washington Wizards (2-5) visit the Philadelphia 76ers (6-1) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off at Wells Fargo Center. Below, we analyze the Wizards-76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Wizards enter Wednesday’s contest off of back-to-back wins after dropping their first five games of the season. They most recently upset the Brooklyn Nets 123-122 Sunday.

The Sixers have won four straight games, including a 118-101 beatdown of the Charlotte Hornets Monday. Philly beat Washington 113-107 in the Dec. 23 season-opener for both clubs.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 121, Wizards 117

Money line (ML)

The 76ers will beat the Wizards for the second time this season on their home court, but we can’t lay the -250 for a straight-up win.

The Wizards just pulled out an impressive, but narrow victory over the Nets Sunday. They benefited from 20 Nets turnovers and could have similar success against a Sixers squad turning the ball over 17 times per game to rank 26th in the Association.

PASS and back the Wizards on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The WIZARDS +6.5 (-110) are the play to stay within 6 points in a loss. That’s the exact margin by which they lost to the 76ers in the season-opener and already have shown improvement early in the young season.

SG Bradley Beal leads the team with 30.6 points per game while PG Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double once again. Sixers star PG Ben Simmons matches up well against one of them, but the likes of Seth CurryShake Milton or Danny Green will have their hands full with the other.

Joel Embiid and F Tobias Harris will lead Philly to victory, but the Wizards guards keep this closer than the projected line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Wizards are third in the NBA with 118.6 points per game and 108.3 possessions per game. The Sixers are 11th in pace but 14th in PPG. Defensively, only the Phoenix Suns allow fewer points per game than Philly’s 101.7 surrendered. Washington ranks 29th in points allowed and 25th in defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions).

Take the OVER 233.5 (-115) with the 76ers likely to fill the stat sheet early, relax some defensive pressures on Washington, and then clamp down to secure the win.

Wizards at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nets 129, Wizards 114

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. I don’t have the bankroll to lay -350 for an outright Nets victory. I’d be fairly surprised if Brooklyn lost but not shocked and it’s not very sharp taking that big of a favorite in regular-season NBA action.

Against the spread (ATS)

Washington finally got a win its last time out by pasting the Minnesota Timberwolves 130-109 as a 1.5-point road favorite. The Wizards did most of their damage in the third quarter, outscoring the Timberwolves 40-14. Washington PG Russell Westbrook was inactive in the game but the team stepped up on his absence by knocking down 55.1% of its shots and notching 35 assists to Minnesota’s 17.

The Nets split a back-to-back with the Atlanta Hawks but lost the second meeting 114-96 on New’s Year Day after an exhilarating 145-141 win a couple of nights prior. Brooklyn’s offense cratered Friday as the Nets shot only 40.7% from the field, 18.9% from 3-point range and scored just 6 fast break points.

For what it’s worth, the Wizards won last year’s season series 2-1 (2-1 ATS) with the Nets winning their final meeting 118-110 as 4-point favorites in the Orlando Bubble Aug. 2. Nets PG Kyrie Irving played in only one of those games—a 113-107 Feb. 1 loss—and obviously, SF Kevin Durant didn’t suit up for Brooklyn last year.

Neither team is living up to bookmakers’ expectations—both are 2-4 ATS—but Brooklyn’s results are a little more concerning because it feels like the Nets carry themselves like a title team when they haven’t won jack.

Here’s the thing, though: Given Durant and Westbrook’s history, KD and by extension, the Nets should give a full-fledged effort. I am not saying there’s animosity there but hoopers always want to have bragging rights over basketball buddies. That’s aside from Brooklyn having way more talent and depth compared to Washington.

GIMME NETS -7.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

The whole KD-Westbrook rivalry thing works both ways and I think we see a bevy of awesome offensive performances in Wizards-Nets. Wizards SG Bradley Beal, Westbrook, Durant and Irving are all ballers and we’re getting a little value presumptively on the Nets’ offense given the stinker they just put up in their last game.

Both teams are in the top-10 in offensive efficiency and Washington is continuing last season’s trend of playing to the Over (4-2 O/U this season). The reason for all the Overs is because the Wizards can get buckets but cannot stop anyone (28th in opponent’s points per game). It’s a huge number so I’ll lean OVER 241.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit.

Chicago Bulls at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Bulls at Wizards: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wizards 121, Bulls 117

Money line (ML)

Chicago took down Washington 115-107 in their first meeting Tuesday. The game was decided, as most NBA games are nowadays, by how each side did behind the arc: The Wizards made 10 threes at a 27% clip while the Bulls sunk 15 of their 36 3-point attempts (41.7%).

As we’ve seen in the NBA over the past week, it’s hard to beat the same team twice in a row. There’s going to be a lot of head-to-head doubleheaders this year in the NBA due to the COVID-altered climate, and there has been plenty of examples already of how hard it is for teams to sweep these back-to-backs.

The Wizards are getting back a key contributor in second-year starting PF Rui Hachimura, who makes his season debut after missing the first four games of the season due to an eye issue.

Officially, I’ll PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. I lean Washington plus the points, but I don’t like them enough in this spot to sprinkle on the money line.

Against the spread (ATS)

Neither one of these franchises has made the playoffs over the past couple of years, but interestingly enough the Chicago has a 5-2 record against Washington when Bulls SG Zach LaVine and Wizards All-Star Bradley Beal face-off.

Also, Washington is 6-1 ATS in the last seven games vs. Chicago. I only lean BULLS +5.5 (-110) for a half-unit because I prefer the total in this one.

Over/Under (O/U)

Since their first meeting Tuesday went Under the total by 16 points, there’s value in BETTING OVER 234.5 (-110) in today’s game. Chicago and Washington have the second-and third-fastest pace in the NBA, and both teams have a below-average defensive rating.

Another reason to like the Over is that both teams send opponents to the charity stripe at an alarming rate. Washington’s defense has the highest free throw-to-field goal attempt rate in the league and Chicago is 2nd FTA/FGA as an offense, but the Bulls’ defense is ranked 25th in FTA/FGA.

Magic at Wizards: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 125, Wizards 119

Money line (ML)

The MAGIC (-105) won 130-120 on Saturday night in D.C. against the Wizards (-115), and now they look to run it back and sweep the doubleheader. The NBA schedule maker got creative in these COVID times, scheduling some of these double dips to limit travel and spread, etc. Orlando was 10 points better than Washington less than 24 hours ago, it’s unlikely much changes in the second end.

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAGIC +1.5 (-115) are catching nearly a bucket from the winless Wizards -1.5 (-105) despite a 10-point win Saturday. Orlando moved to 11-3-1 ATS across the previous 15 road games, while posting a 23-7 ATS mark in the past 30 against losing sides. Conversely, Washington is 2-7 ATS in the previous nine following a straight-up loss. Keep fading the Wiz until they can turn things around.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 227.5 (-110) comfortably connected in Saturday’s game, so why not Sunday? Washington has allowed 121.5 PPG through two losses so far, while Orlando has rolled up 121.5 PPG on offense in its two wins. Look for another high-scoring affair despite a back-to-back for both teams.

Magic at Wizards: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 121, Wizards 114

Money line (ML)

The MAGIC (+110) picked up a solid 113-107 victory over the visiting Miami Heat in a Sunshine State battle in the opener. C Nikola Vucevic was a handful for Miami, going for 15 points, 11 rebounds and a blocked shot, and he’ll be a handful for the Wizards in the middle, too. The Wizards (-130) were on the short end of a 113-107 decision against the 76ers. They actually led 83-73 heading into the final quarter but frittered away the 10-point lead in rather short order.

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAGIC +1.5 (-105) are an impressive 10-3-1 ATS across the past 14 road games dating back to last season, and they’re also a solid 22-7 ATS in the past 29 against losing teams. The Wizards -1.5 (-115) closed out last season with an 0-3-1 ATS mark following a cover, and they were 2-6 ATS in the past eight following a straight-up loss. Until they prove they can turn those trends around, keep fading the Wiz in these situations.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 229.5 (-110) is a tad on the high side, but it’s the way to go here. The Magic hit the Over in their opener, and the Over is now 21-5 across their past 26 games dating back to last season. The Over is also 11-4 in their past 15 as an underdog, while cashing in seven of the past eight meetings against the Wizards in D.C.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 123, Wizards 110

Money line (ML)

Let me start off by saying PG Russell Westbrook will improve the Wizards and I’d bet Yes on BetMGM’s Washington team special for the Wizards to make the playoffs. However, in the first game of the season, against a projected Eastern Conference contending 76ers team, I cannot take the Wizards to win outright.

It’s a PASS because I wouldn’t lay -275 in a regular-season game with the 1982-83 NBA champion 76ers let alone this team.

Against the spread (ATS)

New 76ers head coach Doc Rivers brings championship know-how and a much-needed gravitas to a Philadelphia locker room that has underperformed expectations since Trust The Process has gotten legitimate buzz.

Now, there’s a new process in Philadelphia as the basketball operations are under Daryl Morey’s guidance. His fingerprints are already on this team with the 76ers acquiring 3-point specialists SG Seth Curry and SF Danny Green this offseason.

The 2020-21 Sixers are an interesting mix that if blended correctly can contend for a title. As far as this game is concerned, there is enough familiarity with each other’s roster that I am cool laying a big number and BETTING 76ERS -7.5 (+100) for 1 unit.

Apparently, BetMGM is receiving action the other way as the Wizards are getting the steam so perhaps wait for it to head in Philadelphia’s direction and bet at a flat-7 should it come down.

Finally, I strongly favor Sixers G Ben Simmons in his matchup against Westbrook. Over their past three meetings, Westbrook has shot below his career average from the field while Simmons is averaging 20 points (on 63% field-goal shooting), 13.3 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game, according to LandOfBasketball.com. Westbrook is 4-1 in his career when playing against Simmons, but those were all on teams with much higher expectations and more talent.

76ERS -7.5 (+100) is the play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over has cashed in six of the last seven meetings in Philadelphia and the Wizards had the seventh-highest Over percentage in the league last year. It’s not like defense is what Westbrook is bringing to Washington and the Wizards have a rookie starting in SF Deni Avdija.

There will be plenty of prolific scorers on the floor and an Over-friendly complement of 3-point gunners in both lineups. Let’s TAKE OVER 230.5 (-110) for a half-unit. (Personally, I prefer sides over totals).
