Washington vs Arizona Game Preview

Why Washington Will Win

Arizona’s offense can’t find the right mix.

The defense isn’t all that great, but that’s not really the problem. The Wildcats can’t seem to stop giving the ball away with 12 turnovers in the last four games.

The quarterback situation hasn’t been settled – Jordan McCloud threw too many picks against Oregon, and Gunner Cruz isn’t generating anything down the field – and there isn’t enough of a running game to take the heat off.

Washington isn’t exactly burning it up offensively, but the pass defense hasn’t been solid allowing just four touchdown passes and coming up with four picks. But …

Week 8 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Arizona Will Win

Yeah, the Washington offense. It’s struggling.

It’s gotten to the is-what-it-is point, only getting past 350 yards in the win over Arkansas State and its miserable defense.

The passing game is struggling, the ground attack is worse, and Arizona has to take advantage of all of it to stay in the game into the fourth quarter.

This isn’t the type of Washington team that’s going to run away and hide with the game. There’s not going to be a giant explosion of early points from the passing game, there will be a few turnovers, and Arizona has to take advantage of all of it.

Week 8 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Arizona played a Colorado team last week that should’ve been ripe for the picking.

There wasn’t any offense happening, the Wildcats were playing reasonably well in close games – to a point – and …

Colorado 34, Arizona 0.

Washington doesn’t have an offense, and it’s not going to roll easily, but it’ll methodically get just enough to overcome a good start from an Arizona offense that’s desperately looking for a little luck.

The Wildcat passing game won’t be able to come through in the second half against this UW secondary.

Why Arizona Will Win

Grant Gunnell came up with the type of performance the offense needed to have a shot to beat USC. The Wildcats lost in the final moments, but the revamped defense was able to hold up relatively well, and the offense kept hitting the Trojans enough to make it a fight.

Gunnell was good on his deep throws, he ran for 40 yards, and played like the steady playmaker who can give the Wildcats a chance. The offensive line wasn’t bad at giving Gunnell time to work,

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Washington Will Win

Washington caught a few breaks on generous spots on the way to a 27-21 win over Oregon State, but the team – throw in an interesting punting problem early on – managed to get through the opener.

It started with the ground game that kept things simple. The three-headed running back attack of Sean McGrew, Kamari Pleasant and Richard Newton were able to combine for 193 of the team’s 267 rushing yards, the offensive line was strong, and the defense was fantastic in the secondary, allowing just 85 passing yards.

USC was able to pound away a bit on the Arizona defensive front – averaging over five yards per carry – and Washington won’t do anything too crazy. Run, play good defense, repeat.

What’s Going To Happen

The Washington lines will take over early on. Arizona will be able to run a little bit, and Gunnell will have his moments, but as the mantra has been from the start under new Husky head man Jimmy Lake, “run the damn ball.”

Washington will do it very well.

Why Washington Will Win

It wasn’t perfect, and it wasn’t beautiful, but the Football Team was able to come up with a fantastic defensive second half, and Dwayne Haskins did what he needed to do, to get by Philadelphia 27-17.

How did it really happen? Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush.

The Washington defensive front beat up and battered Carson Wentz, stalled any semblance of an Eagle running game, and it forced three turnovers thanks to all the pressure.

Arizona kept things moving against San Francisco with a huge performance from Kyler Murray, but he also didn’t get pressured like he will this week.

Week 3 Experts Picks Predictions: College Football

Why Arizona Will Win

It’s not like Washington did much of anything with its running game. Peyton Barber ran for two scores and Antonio Gibson led the way with 36 rushing yards, but it couldn’t do much to help out Haskins.

Arizona’s defense was hardly perfect against San Francisco, but it was able to hold its own against the banging offensive front. It’s the other side of the ball that should be the difference.

Murray was unstoppable when he got on the move, and DeAndre Hopkins made the most of his 16 targets with 14 grabs for 151 yards.

Week 3 Experts Picks Predictions: NFL

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

TE Logan Thomas, Washington
Is he going to be a go-to guy around the goal line? Arizona drafted the Virginia Tech quarterback, but now he’s a tight end for the Football Team with the size and athleticism to grow into a steady factor. He only caught four passes for 37 yards and a touchdown, but if he scores again, he’s worth a flier of a pickup.

What’s Going To Happen

The excitement for the Cardinals is off the charts after being the defending NFC champs with Murray and Hopkins looking fantastic. The offense will continue to be explosive, but it’s not going to run away and hide with the Washington defense keeping the pressure up enough to make Murray work.
