The Washington State Cougars (2-0) and No. 22 Washington Huskies (0-2) meet at Lumen Field in Seattle Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Washington State vs. Washington State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.
The Cougars are off to a strong start this season, highlighted by a convincing 37-16 win over Texas Tech Sept. 7. Despite being 2.5-point underdogs, they outplayed the Big 12 team with 301 rushing yards, led by QB John Mateer, who ran for 197 yards and a TD. Mateer’s been impressive all season, with 467 passing yards, 6 TDs, and 252 rushing yards in 2 games. Freshman RB Wayshawn Parker has also contributed significantly with 165 rushing yards and 2 TDs. Washington State is making the most of a challenging transition year with strong performances on both sides of the ball.
Washington, which is No. 22 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, is stepping up its game in its first Big Ten season, facing tough opponents like Michigan, USC, Penn State, and Oregon. It has kicked off strong with wins over Weber State (Aug. 31) and Eastern Michigan (Sept. 7). Last game, QB Will Rogers threw for 261 yards with 4 TDs. Rogers, who transferred from Mississippi State, has been on fire with 511 yards and 5 TDs so far. RB Jonah Coleman leads the rushing attack with 231 yards and 3 scores, while WR Giles Jackson has been a standout receiver with 16 catches.

Washington State vs. Washington picks and predictions
Prediction
Washington 31, Washington State 24
Moneyline
PASS.
The Huskies (-200) will win and cover in Seattle Saturday, but I’d rather not pay all that juice. I’ll keep my wager to the spread.
Against the spread
BET WASHINGTON -4.5 (-115).
This year’s matchup between Washington and Washington State is set to be a game-changer, and Washington is looking to make a statement. With the game on a neutral field, the Huskies are ready to capitalize. Washington State surprised Texas Tech with its running game, but Washington isn’t going to be caught off guard. Expect the Huskies to load up the box, forcing Mateer to rely on his arm rather than his legs.
Washington’s defense has been solid, keeping both of its previous opponents under 10 points. It has linebackers who can keep a close eye on Mateer, ensuring he doesn’t run wild. On offense, Rogers’ extensive experience from Mississippi State gives him a clear edge over Mateer, who’s still finding his footing. Historically, Washington has had the upper hand in this rivalry, winning 9 of the last 10 games. With all these factors in play, Washington is a strong bet to cover the -4.5 spread.
Over/Under
AVOID this bet and here’s why: These teams have a mixed track record in their last 10 meetings, going 4-5-1 O/U. Looking at their recent performances, Washington State is 5-5 and Washington is 4-6 O/U in their last 10 games. With such inconsistent trends, it’s tough to predict where the final score will land. Based on my prediction, it looks like this game might end up right around that total, so I’m opting to focus on the spread wager instead.
