NFL Wild Card: Tampa Bay Buccaneers road favorites vs. Washington Football Team

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the betting favorites in their NFL Wild Card road game at the Washington Football Team.

During NFL Wild Card Weekend, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (11-5) head up to Landover, Md., Saturday for an NFC Wild Card game against the Washington Football Team (7-9) at 8:15 p.m. ET in FedExField. Below, we take a look at the early Buccaneers-Washington betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Tampa Bay truck-sticked NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons in its final home game of the 2020 regular season 44-27 in Week 17. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady capped off what was an excellent first season in Tampa Bay as he torched the Falcons for 399 passing yards and four touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter that helped salt away the win. Brady was magnificent in 2020: Third in passing yards, tied for second in passing touchdowns, and ninth in both QB Rating and QBR. This is Tampa Bay’s first playoff appearance since 2007, which was the second-longest streak behind the Cleveland Browns (2002), who also ended a drought. The Buccaneers finished the regular season with 9-7 against the spread and Over/Under records.

Washington limped into the playoffs —which is more literal than figurative for QB Alex Smith, who battled a calf injury down the stretch—after losing back-to-back games (scoring only 15 and 13 points in those games) but beating a Philadelphia Eagles team that played third-string QB Nate Sudfeld in the fourth quarter of a must-win game on Sunday Night Football to end the season. The Football Team’s roster is full of interesting storylines: Smith is in the running for Comeback Player of the Year, head coach Ron Rivera battling cancer mid-season and a candidate for Coach of the Year, and rookie DE Chase Young who’s expected to be the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year. Washington relies on a defense that’s tied for second in yards per play allowed and third in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. The Football Team finished the regular season 9-7 ATS and 5-11 O/U.

Washington Football Team slight road underdog at Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17

The Washington Football Team is a small underdog in its Week 17 road game at the Philadelphia Eagles

The Washington Football Team (6-9) visit the Philadelphia Eagles (4-10-1) in Week 17’s Sunday Night Football game at 8:20 p.m. Here’s a look at the early Washington-Eagles betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Washington missed a chance to clinch the NFC East by losing at home to the Carolina Panthers 20-13 in Week 16 as a 1-point underdog. However, it can still win the division with a win vs. the Eagles next Sunday. Against the Panthers, QB Dwayne Haskins (14-of-28, 154 passing yards, 0 TD, 2 INT) was benched in the fourth quarter for Taylor Heinicke (12-of-19, 137 passing yards, 1 TD, 0 INT). Haskins was stripped of the ball and threw 2 interceptions before halftime as Washington fell behind 20-3. It’s highly likely the 15th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft has taken his last snap with Washington. The team hopes starting QB Alex Smith will be able to play against the Eagles after missing the last two games with a strained calf.

The Eagles were eliminated from the playoff picture with a 37-17 loss at the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16. Philly, which was a 3-point favorite, led 14-3 after the opening quarter but trailed 20-17 at the half. The Eagles still had their chances down 30-17, but a turnover on downs and three consecutive turnovers in the fourth quarter ended their three-year run of postseason appearances, which included a Super Bowl title in 2017. QB Jalen Hurts, who made his third consecutive start, threw for 342 passing yards with a TD and 2 picks while rushing for a team-high 69 yards on 9 carries.

Seattle Seahawks road favorites at red-hot Washington Football Team in Week 15

The Seattle Seahawks are the betting favorites in their Week 15 road game at the Washington Football Team.

The Seattle Seahawks (9-4) visit the Washington Football Team (6-7) Sunday of Week 15 for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in a matchup of two NFC playoff contenders. Here’s a look at the early Seahawks-Washington betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

With four straight wins, Washington is the hottest team in the NFC. The WFT is now alone in first place atop the NFC East following Sunday’s 23-15 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Glendale, Ariz. Washington dominated defensively as a field-goal underdog, scoring its only two touchdowns on a 47-yard fumble return by rookie DE Chase Young and a 76-yard interception return by rookie S Kamren Curl. The defense recorded four sacks, forced a trio of turnovers and limited San Francisco to 3-of-15 third-down conversions. PK Dustin Hopkins was 3-for-4 on his field- goal attempts. Offensively, Washington QB Alex Smith left with a “mild” calf strain late in the second quarter and was replaced by Dwayne Haskins. Combined, the two passed for 108 yards with an interception. Washington finished with only 193 total yards and was outgained by 151 yards.

Seattle bounced back from Week 13’s home upset loss to the New York Giants, by walloping the other New York team, the winless Jets (0-13), by a 40-3 count. The Seahawks easily covered as 16.5-point home favorites. QB Russell Wilson got back on track, throwing for 206 yards and four TDs while RB Chris Carson rushed for a game-high 76 yards and a score on 12 carries. Defensively, the Seahawks limited the Jets to 12 first downs and 185 total yards, including only 116 passing. The Jets’ only points came on a 45-yard field goal on their opening drive, but PK Sergio Castillo would go on to miss his final three field-goal attempts of the game.

San Francisco 49ers ‘home’ favorites vs. Washington Football Team in Week 14

The San Francisco 49ers are the betting favorites in their Week 14 designated home game against the Washington Football Team.

The Washington Football Team (5-7) and the San Francisco 49ers (5-7) will meet Sunday of Week 14 for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at State Farm Stadium (home of the Arizona Cardinals) in Glendale, Ariz. San Francisco will be the designated home team as the game had to be moved from the 49ers’ regular home of Levi’s Stadium due to Santa Clara County, Calif., COVID-19 protocol rules. Here’s a look at the early Washington-49ers betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Washington handed the Pittsburgh Steelers (11-1) their first loss of the season in a surprising 23-17 upset Monday of Week 13. Washington, which was a 6-point road underdog with a +210 money line, rallied from 14-3 halftime deficit to notch its third win in a row. QB Alex Smith (31 of 46) finished with 296 passing yards and a touchdown, and PK Dustin Hopkins kicked 2 of his 3 field goals in the final 2:07. Washington remained tied atop the woeful NFC East with the New York Giants despite a 5-7 record. Keep an eye on the health status of Washington’s leading rusher RB Antonio Gibson, who exited in the first half due to a toe injury.

The 49ers lost as 1.5-point favorites to the Buffalo Bills 34-24 in Week 13’s Monday Night Football game, which was played in Arizona. San Francisco found the end zone first – QB Nick Mullens‘ 2-yard TD pass to rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk – for a 7-0 first-quarter lead, but Buffalo scored 17 unanswered, second-quarter points for a 17-7 halftime advantage. The Bills increased the lead to 27-10 late in the third and it was all but over. Mullens (26 of 39) finished with 316 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 picks as San Francisco suffered its fourth loss in the last five games.
