The Washington Capitals (23-9-2) visit the Toronto Maple Leafs (22-12-2) Saturday night. Puck drop from Scotiabank Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Capitals vs. Maple Leafs odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 1-1.

The Capitals snapped a 2-game winning streak with a 4-1 loss against the Bruins Monday while failing to cover as +125 road underdogs. LW Jakub Vrana was the lone goalscorer for Washington in the loss. There is good news on the horizon, though, as LW Alex Ovechkin (leg) took part in practice Friday. He has a chance to return for this one. He has been out since Nov. 18 with a fractured fibula.

Toronto snapped a 2-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Detroit Friday while covering as a -126 road favorite. RW Mitch Marner led the way with a hat trick in the win. They’re treading water with C Auston Matthews (upper body) out. He’s skating at practice, but he’ll miss at least 1 more game.

Lindgren has won 5 of his last 7 games while allowing 3 or fewer goals in each of his last 5. One of those games was a 3-1 win at Toronto Dec. 6, as he stopped 20 of 21 shots. He has a sparkling 1.81 GAA in December.

Murray was between the pipes in a 6-3 win at Buffalo Dec. 20 in his first start since coming up from the AHL. He stopped 24 of 27 fired his way. Anthony Stolarz (knee) has been out since Dec. 12, and Murray will back up Joseph Woll in the meantime.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 3, Capitals 2

BET MAPLE LEAFS (-110).

In a matchup between teams that are nearly even in records, the advantage belongs to the home team. Toronto is 14-6-0 on its home ice this season and has scored 5 or more goals in 4 of its last 6 games. It faces a Washington squad that has scored 3 or fewer goals in each of its last 5.

Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Capitals (26-19-6) and Toronto Maple Leafs (30-12-8) meet Sunday at Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Capitals vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Capitals cashed as -124 home favorites Thursday with a 3-2 shootout win vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. LW Alex Ovechkin and LW Marcus Johansson both scored in regulation for the Capitals, who are just 4-6-0 in their last 10 games. The Capitals are 0-6 in their last 6 games following a win in their previous contest.

The Maple Leafs lost as -196 home favorites Friday as the Ottawa Senators routed Toronto 6-2. RW Joey Anderson and RW William Nylander were the only goal scorers for the Maple Leafs in Toronto’s 1st loss at home since dropping a 5-1 decision to the Seattle Kraken as -230 favorites on Jan. 5. The Maple Leafs are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss by 3 or more goals in their previous contest.

This is the 3rd meeting this season between these teams. The Maple Leafs won the 1st meeting 3-2 as -209 home favorites on Oct. 13 and the Capitals won the most recent meeting 5-2 as +126 home underdogs on Dec. 17.

Capitals at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Darcy Kuemper (15-13-4, 2.54 GAA, .917 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Ilya Samsonov (16-5-2, 2.37 GAA, .916 SV%, 2 SO)

Kuemper faced the Maple Leafs once last season as a member of the Colorado Avalanche, allowing 3 goals on 8 shots before getting pulled in the 1st period. In 18 road starts this season, Kuemper is 7-8-2 and has allowed 41 goals on 516 shots, good for a 2.50 GAA and .921 SV%.

Samsonov has faced the Capitals twice this season and is 1-1-0, allowing 7 goals on 54 shots, good for a 3.50 GAA and .870 SV%. In 16 games at home (15 starts), Samsonov is 14-1-1 and has allowed 30 goals on 421 shots, good for a 1.95 GAA and .929 SV%.

Capitals at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Capitals 3

Moneyline

BET MAPLE LEAFS (-145).

Toronto is 4-1 vs. Washington in the last 5 meetings and should be extra motivated to bounce back after getting blown out by its provincial rival. The Capitals have not strung together back-to-back wins since Dec. 27 and should struggle to contain the league’s 8th-best offense (3.36 goals per game) coming off a bad loss.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Capitals should be able to keep it close, but Washington +1.5 (-210) is a little overpriced. Bet the moneyline or total instead.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6.5 (+105).

The Over is 6-1-1 in Washington’s last 8 games when its opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous contest and 4-1 in Toronto’s last 5 vs. the Metropolitan Division. These teams play high-scoring games vs. each other, with the Over hitting in 5 of the last 7 meetings, and Sunday’s matchup should be another offensive showcase.

Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Capitals (0-1-0) and Toronto Maple Leafs (0-1-0) meet Thursday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Capitals vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Caps were boat-raced on home ice by the Boston Bruins 5-2 in the opener Wednesday. Washington looks to avoid an 0-2 hole to start the season in Toronto, where it has won 5 of the last 7 meetings.

The Maple Leafs were heavy favorites in Montreal on Wednesday, but the home team won for the 5th straight time in that series. Toronto looks to take advantage of some home cooking, as it is 38-15 in the last 53 games at home.

Capitals at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Charlie Lindgren (5-0-0, 1.22 GAA, .958 SV% in 2021-22 with St. Louis) vs. Ilya Samsonov (23-12-5, 3.02 GAA, .896 SV%, 3 SO in 2021-22 with Washington)

Lindgren returned to the NHL in a big way last season, appearing in 5 games as a backup for the Blues. It was his first action in the NHL since 2019-20 with the Montreal Canadiens. He has appeared in 29 games across 6 seasons, mostly with the Habs, winning 15 games.

Samsonov looks for a fresh start after flaming out in Washington. He was 23-12-0 last season in 39 starts and 44 appearances, but he also had a less-than-stellar 3.02 GAA and a .896 SV%, both career lows.

Capitals at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline

The CAPITALS (+160) will grab their 1st win of the season in Toronto, a place they have played well in recent seasons.

Fans of the Maple Leafs (-200) will be wringing their hands after a 2nd straight loss to start the season, but good things are right around the corner. It doesn’t help here that Samsonov makes his 1st start for the Leafs, and it just so happens to be against his old team, which knows him best.

Puck line/Against the spread

CAPITALS +1.5 (-140) isn’t a terrible play if you just can’t bring yourself to play Washington straight up. They’re not terribly overpriced here if you’re interested in some insurance.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-140) is the best play on the board, although you’ll have to eat a little extra chalk to get it.

The Over went 12-5 in the final 17 road games for the Caps last season, but more importantly, the Over is 4-0-1 in the last 5 meetings with the Leafs, and 4-1 in the last 5 battles between these teams at Scotiabank Arena.

Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks, and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Capitals (41-22-10) travel to meet the Toronto Maple Leafs (47-20-6) at Scotiabank Arena Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Capitals vs. Maple Leafs odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Capitals registered a 9-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers last time out, Washington’s fourth consecutive win. The Over is also 3-0-1 during the four-game win streak, and 14-2-1 in the past 17 outings.

The Maple Leafs entered Tuesday’s game at home against the lowly Buffalo Sabres on a 6-0-1 run, but suffered a stunning 5-2 loss as -375 favorites. Ouch. It’s a cautionary tale why you should never bet heavy favorites, as one loss can ruin a string of victories.

Capitals at Maple Leafs odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Capitals +130 (bet $100 to $130) | Maple Leafs -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Capitals +1.5 (-190) | Maple Leafs -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -125 | U: +100)

Capitals at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Ilya Samsonov (22-9-4, 2.93 GAA, .899 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Jack Campbell (27-9-5, 2.72 GAA, .912 SV%, 4 SO)

Samsonov has picked up wins in five consecutive starts, including a 3-0-0 record, 2.70 GAA and .901 SV% in three outings in the month of April. He has one start against the Leafs this season, and he was pulled after one period after allowing three goals on 10 shots.

Campbell has four straight victories, but he has allowed three or more goals in three of the outings. He is 3-0-0 with a 3.48 GAA and .891 SV% in three starts and four appearances in the month of April.

[tipico]

Capitals at Maple Leafs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 3

Money line

The CAPITALS (+130) have been on fire lately, rattling off four consecutive victories. They’re looking to pay back the Maple Leafs (-160) after a 5-3 victory by Toronto in D.C. Feb. 28.

This is the first of two meetings in the next 10 days, as the teams will also meet April 24 in D.C. The Caps are 16-7 in the past 23 meetings, while going 5-1 in the past six trips to Toronto.

Against the spread

The Capitals +1.5 (-190) will cost you nearly two times your potential return, and that’s expensive if you’re searching for a little insurance. Just play Washington straight up for the better value.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-125) is worth playing ever so slightly.

The Over is 4-1 in the past five meetings, while going 9-3 in the past 12 battles in Toronto. Better yet, the Caps have cashed the Over at a 7-0-1 clip as an underdog, while hitting the Over in seven in a row on the road.

The Caps are driving this Over train, but this is also a game featuring Alex Ovechkin, Mitchell Marner and Auston Matthews. Look for plenty of goals.
