Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga notches 20 points in 25 minutes off the bench vs. Nets

Despite their disappointing loss to the Nets, Sunday’s contest marked another impressive performance from Jonathan Kuminga off the bench.

Despite their late collapse on the way to a disappointing loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Sunday’s contest marked another impressive performance from second-year forward Jonathan Kuminga.

After missing seven games due to a right foot sprain he suffered against the Portland Trail Blazers on Dec. 30, Kuminga made his return to the rotation in Friday’s shorthanded win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In his second game back from injury, Kuminga fueled a strong performance from Golden State’s second unit against Brooklyn. The sophomore forward tallied 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field with three boards in 25 minutes.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Kuminga was one of three members to score in double-figures off the bench. Behind the former lottery pick, the Warriors’ bench outscored the Nets’ bench 50-21.

Sunday’s contest against the Nets was the second time this season Kuminga has tallied 20 or more points. Kuminga’s season-high came against the Utah Jazz on Dec. 7 with 24 points in 29 minutes.

NBA Twitter reacts to James Wiseman’s career high 30 point performance in Warriors’ loss vs. Nets

After James Wiseman notched a new career-high with 30 points in Golden State’s loss to Brooklyn, NBA Twitter chimed in with reactions.

Without several key players due to injury, including Steph Curry (shoulder), Klay Thompson (rest) and Andrew Wiggins (adductor), it wasn’t pretty for the Golden State Warriors in the second leg of a road back-to-back against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

Behind a 21 points first-half performance from former Warrior Kevin Durant, the Nets stormed away to a 40-point lead in the first half, outscoring the Warriors 91-51 in the first two quarters. Brooklyn ended the first half shooting a red-hot 71.4% from the field against Golden State.

Although the Warriors responded with some fight in the second half, Brooklyn’s commanding lead helped them cruise to a dominant victory on Wednesday night, 143-113.

During the Warriors’ blowout loss to the Nets, James Wiseman provided a bright spot for the away team in Brooklyn. The former No. 2 overall pick recorded a new career-high in scoring with 30 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the field in 28 minutes off the bench. Wiseman added six rebounds, two rebounds and an assist against the Nets. Wiseman even showed off his range, hitting a jumper from beyond the arc on his way to a new career high.

Despite Wiseman’s performance, it wasn’t enough to solve Golden State’s problems on the road. The Warriors’ loss in Brooklyn finished their six-game road swing with a 1-5 record. Golden State’s road record has now fallen to 3-16 on the season.

Following the Warriors’ loss to the Nets, the NBA community on Twitter chimed in with different reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Wednesday night.

With Kevin Durant and James Harden ruled out for the Brooklyn Nets, Saturday’s primetime contest against the Golden State Warriors looked to be heading towards a blowout.

After each team traded shots in the fourth quarter, the Warriors needed a final bucket to close out the Nets at Chase Center. Klay Thompson answered the bell.

With 12.5 seconds left on the clock, Thompson drilled a deep 3-pointer to give the Warriors a four-point lead. Although Irving responded with a familiar clutch jumper from beyond the arc to cut the lead to one, the Warriors were able to hold on against the Nets, 110-106.

Thompson finished the game with 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the field with six boards and two assists in 27 minutes.

After a slow start, Steph Curry ended the game with 19 points on 5-of-18 shooting from the field with eight assists, five rebounds and three steals in 36 minutes. Curry notched 14 of his points in the fourth quarter alone.
Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors in scoring with 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor with eight rebounds, three steals, three blocks and two assists in 37 minutes.

Despite Brooklyn dropping the contest, Irving scored a season-high 32 points on 9-of-21 shooting from the field against Golden State.
