Warriors select Brazil’s Gui Santos with No. 55 overall pick in 2022 NBA Draft

With their final selection of the 2022 NBA draft, the Warriors added Brazil’s Gui Santos with the No. 55 overall pick.

To wrap up their 2022 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors came back onto the clock in the second round with the No. 55 overall selection. After landing Patrick Baldwin Jr. in the first round and adding Ryan Rollins at No. 44 overall, the Warriors went international with their second pick in the second round.

With the No. 55 overall pick, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr brought in Gui Santos out of Brazil.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

Prior to declaring for the NBA draft, Santos played professionally in Brazil’s NBB for Minas at 20-years-old. During the 2021-22 campaign, the 6-foot-7 wing tallied 10.5 points on 43.1% shooting from the field with 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest.

With Golden State’s young core loaded with prospects like Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman, Moses Moody, Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins, Santos could be a draft and stash option for the Warriors. With the NBA’s Summer League set to start in early July, we will soon to see a glimpse of the Warriors’ plan for their new draft pick Santos.

Warriors Draft Preview: 3 questions with Rookie Wire’s Cody Taylor

To help bring things up to speed, Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire stopped by Warriors Wire to answer three preview questions about the NBA draft.

After celebrating their run to an NBA title, the Golden State Warriors are turning the page to the draft. On Thursday, the Orlando Magic will kick off the 2022 edition of the NBA draft with the No. 1 pick.

For the first time in two seasons, the Warriors will not hold a lottery pick. Instead, Golden State will hit the clock with the No. 28 selection in the first round. The Warriors have shown the ability to find premier talent at the tail of the draft with previous late picks Jordan Poole and Kevon Looney. To help extend their title window, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will be challenged with finding another potential contributor at No. 28.

With most Warriors fans still locked in on all things regarding the NBA Finals, Cody Taylor of USA TODAY SMG’s Rookie Wire stopped by to preview the draft for Warriors Wire. Taylor set the scene for Golden State’s draft night by answering three key questions heading into Thursday’s event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Warriors land UCONN’s James Bouknight with No. 7 pick in latest mock draft from For The Win

With the No. 7 overall pick in the latest mock draft from For The Win’s Bryan Kalbrosky, the Warriors landed UCONN guard James Bouknight.

While the NBA Finals take center stage in the basketball world, the draft is quickly approaching in the background. As the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks meet in the Finals, the Golden State Warriors will be studying for July’s draft night.

With two picks in the lottery at No. 7 and No. 14, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will have the opportunity to land a pair of top prospects in the 2021 edition of the draft. Before Myers and Kerr are on the clock on July 29, mock drafts are submitting different predictions for Golden State’s selections.

In the latest mock draft from Bryan Kalbrosky of USA TODAY’s For The Win, the Warriors landed UCONN’s James Bouknight with the No. 7 overall pick.

According to Kalbrosky, the UCONN sophomore is an explosive scorer with athleticism.

Via For The Win:

UCONN’s James Bouknight averaged 18.7 points per game as a sophomore. That included a massive 40-point game against Creighton. Anyone who is capable of that type of explosive scoring performance is going to get some love from evaluators, especially when they are as athletic as Bouknight.

During his sophomore season at Connecticut, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 18.7 points on 44.7% shooting from the floor with 5.7 boards, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.7 minutes per contest.

Bouknight tallied 20 or more points in seven of 15 games, including a 40 point performance on 13-of-24 shooting from the floor against Creighton.

Adding Bouknight would give the Warriors a punch of scoring alongside Jordan Poole in the backcourt off the bench. When Steph Curry and Klay Thompson come off the floor, Kerr could turn to the Bouknight and Poole tandem for scoring in the second unit.

Warriors pick Real Madrid’s Usman Garuba at No. 14 overall in new mock draft from The Ringer

In a new mock draft from Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Warriors added Real Madrid’s Usman Garuba with No. 14 overall pick.

[mm-video type=video id=01f7y4sp3t1szw3vdj9n playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01f5k5xtr64thj7fw2 image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f7y4sp3t1szw3vdj9n/01f7y4sp3t1szw3vdj9n-30cfff3cdbc131e35f9c266aaed331bd.jpg]

While most of the attention will focus on the Golden State Warriors’ decision when the team is on the clock at No. 7 overall, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will have the opportunity to land another top prospect in the first round. Following the lottery, the Warriors landed the No. 14 overall pick in addition to the No. 7 selection.

In the latest mock draft from Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Warriors landed international prospect Usman Garuba at No. 14 after selecting Baylor’s Davion Mitchell at No. 7. According to O’Connor, Garuba could serve as a “protégé” for Draymond Green.

Via The Ringer:

Draymond Green took James Wiseman under his wing last season, a positive showing of leadership for the franchise. But Garuba might be a better protégé for Green because he’s also a small-ball center with a relentless attitude. Though playing them together wouldn’t be feasible for the Warriors due to their lack of shooting ability, he’d be the perfect backup and, someday, a potential replacement.

During 36 games with Real Madrid in the Liga ACB, the 19-year-old averaged 5.6 points on 46.1% shooting from the field with 5.3 boards and 1.1 assists per contest. Against Valencia, the 6-foot-8 forward notched a season-high double-double with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field with 14 boards.

Adding Garuba to Golden State’s young core next to James Wiseman and Eric Paschall would give Golden State a trio of developmental prospects to mold behind Draymond Green and Kevon Looney.

Warriors select Baylor’s Davion Mitchell at No. 7 overall in latest mock draft from The Ringer

In the latest mock draft from Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Warriors selected Baylor’s Davion Mitchell with the No. 7 overall pick.

Following the draft order being set after the lottery, mock drafts are beginning to forecast different predictions for what Steve Kerr, Bob Myers and the rest of the Golden State Warriors’ staff will do in July’s draft.

With a pair of selections in the top 14, the Warriors will look to add a dynamic prospect alongside 2020 No. 2 overall James Wiseman while trying to make the jump back to the postseason behind veterans Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

In the latest mock draft from Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Warriors landed Baylor’s Davion Mitchell with the No. 7 overall selection. According to O’Connor, Mitchell could help the Warriors in the present and the future.

Via The Ringer:

Mitchell measured shorter than teams were hoping at the NBA draft combine this week, but he still plays bigger than his body suggests as a gritty, strong defender. The Warriors could use a scorer off the bench like him, too. If you consider what Golden State was missing last season, it’s a player like him. Mitchell could help now, and be a bridge toward sustaining success into the future.

On his way to being named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, Mitchell averaged 14 points on 51.1% shooting from the field and 44.7% shooting from beyond the arc on 4.7 3-point attempts per game. The 6-foot-1 guard tacked on 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest.

Via @Raptornian on Twitter:

The 22-year-old guard helped lead the Bears to the national championship, averaging 13.5 points on 50% shooting from the floor with 5.8 assists, 2.8 boards and 1.7 steals in six games during March Madness.

Behind Curry and Thompson, Mitchell’s defensive presence and proven scoring could give the Warriors an explosive one-two punch off the bench alongside former first-rounder Jordan Poole.

Warriors land Baylor’s Davion Mitchell with No. 7 overall pick in latest Rookie Wire mock draft

In the latest mock draft from Cody Taylor of USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire, the Warriors landed Baylor’s Davion Mitchell at No. 7 overall.

While the league focuses on the pair of the conference final series in the postseason, the Golden State Warriors are doing their homework for July’s NBA draft.

With the order officially set following the draft lottery, mock drafts can begin to try predicting what Bob Myers, Steve Kerr and Golden State’s front office will do with a pair of picks in the top 14.

In the latest mock draft from Cody Taylor of USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire, the Warriors landed Baylor’s Davion Mitchell with the No. 7 overall selection. According to Taylor, Mitchell projects to be one of the most NBA-ready players in the 2021 draft class.

Via Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire:

Mitchell, who led the Bears to the national championship, was named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 14.1 points, 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals 30 games. He also became the first player in program history to be named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Mitchell projects to be one of the most NBA-ready players with his defensive ability and shot-making after converting on 44.7% from 3-point range on 4.7 attempts per game. The Warriors are certainly in win-now mode and his explosiveness and skills as a ballhandler will be a welcomed addition, on top of his potential to be the best defender in this draft.

[mm-video type=video id=01f7y4sp3t1szw3vdj9n playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01f5k5xtr64thj7fw2 image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f7y4sp3t1szw3vdj9n/01f7y4sp3t1szw3vdj9n-30cfff3cdbc131e35f9c266aaed331bd.jpg]

On his way to leading the Bears through March Madness to the National Championship, Mitchell averaged 14 points on 51.1% shooting from the field and 44.7% shooting from beyond the arc on 4.7 3-pointer attempts per contest. The 6-foot-1 guard added 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest.

Adding Mitchell alongside Jordan Poole would give Golden State a dynamic duo in the backcourt behind Steph Curry and a healthy Klay Thompson. While Poole serves as a scorer, Mitchell has the potential to lead Golden State’s defensive unit off the bench as a youngster.

Warriors land No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks in 2021 NBA draft lottery

At the 2021 NBA draft lottery, the Golden State Warriors officially landed the No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks on the draft board.

It’s official; the Golden State Warriors will be on the clock with the No. 7 and No. 14 picks in the 2021 edition of the NBA Draft.

With Rick Welts representing the team at the NBA draft lottery on Tuesday night, the Warriors landed the No. 14 pick to open the lottery. Golden State sticking at No 14 shouldn’t come as a surprise. After finishing with the top record for eligible lottery teams, the Warriors had a 96.7% chance of receiving the No. 14 pick.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

After securing their pick at 14, Welts and the Warriors’ attention shifted towards the Minnesota Timberwolves. If the Timberwolves pick dropped outside the top three, the Warriors would receive their pick as a part of the blockbuster deal from the 2020 deadline that included Andrew Wiggins and DeAngelo Russell.

With the No. 7 pick on the board, NBA deputy commissioner and chief operating officer Mark Tatum pulled Golden State’s card for the second time in the lottery. Minnesota’s potential selection fell to No. 7, shifting the pick to Golden State. With the Warriors landing the No. 7 pick from Minnesota, the Wiggins and Russell deal is officially complete.

Following the end of the lottery, the Warriors will head into the 2020 NBA draft with the No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks on the board.

Warriors add former Turkish BSL MVP Alperen Sengun with No. 14 overall pick in new Rookie Wire mock draft

In a new mock draft from Cody Taylor of USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire, the Warriors added former Turkish BSL MVP Alperen Sengun with No. 14 pick.

With the selection order officially set following the 2021 NBA draft lottery, mock drafts are beginning to make their best predictions for what the Golden State Warriors will do when they’re on the clock at No. 7 and No. 14 in July’s draft.

After landing Baylor’s Davion Mitchell at No. 7 in the latest mock draft from Cody Taylor of USA Today’s Rookie Wire, the Warriors added an international prospect with their second pick in the first round. With the No. 14 choice, Taylor assigned Turkish prospect Alperen Sengun to the Warriors in the new Rookie Wire mock.

According to Taylor, Sengun is considered one of the most versatile bigs available in the 2021 draft class.

Via Rookie Wire:

Sengun averaged 19.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in 29 games with Besiktas in the Turkish League. He shot 65% from the field, including 81.2% from the free-throw line. He was named the 2020-21 Turkish BSL MVP and led the league in several areas, including scoring, rebounding, blocks and scoring efficiency to help his team to the playoffs. He is widely considered one of the most versatile bigs in the draft this year with his ability to score in the paint and create for his teammates. His prior professional experience figures to be a huge plus for the Warriors.

On his way to winning the 2020-21 Turkish BSL Most Valuable Player award with Besiktas, Sengun averaged a near double-double with 19.2 points on 65% shooting from the floor and 9.4 rebounds. The 18-year-old added 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in 29 games.

Via @Eurohoopsnet on Twitter:

With an impressive resume that includes multiple seasons of professional basketball at only 18-years-old, Sengun could give the Warriors a proven offensive weapon off the bench in the frontcourt behind Draymond Green and Kevon Looney. The 6-foot-10 Turkish big has the potential to pair with 2020 No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman for a compelling young duo upfront in the Bay Area.

Sengun will join NBA players Cedi Osman, Furkan Korkmaz and Ersan Ilyasova on the Turkish national team for an upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament.

Report: LaMelo Ball has worked out for the Golden State Warriors and two other teams

With one week left before the NBA Draft, top-prospect LaMelo Ball worked out for the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons.

With one week until the NBA’s long-awaited draft night, the Golden State Warriors are still putting the finishing touches on their plans for the No. 2 overall pick.

Before they’re on the clock on Nov. 18, the Warriors are putting some of the top prospects in the draft class through workouts. During the draft process, James Wiseman, Deni Avdija, Anthony Edwards and Isaac Okoro are some of the prospects to be on the court for training sessions with the Golden State Warriors.

On Thursday, potential top-overall pick LaMelo Ball joined Golden State’s list of pre-draft workouts. According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Ball conducted a workout in front of the Warriors, Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons. On Wednesday, Ball reportedly held a workout with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Via @DraftExpress on Twitter:

In 12 games in Australia’s NBL, Ball averaged 17 points on 37.5% shooting from the field with 7.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.6 steals. Ball tallied 25% on 6.7 3-point attempts per contest.

While selecting Ball may not fill a need with Steph Curry roaming the backcourt in the Bay Area, the 19-year-old’s ability might be too tough for Golden State to pass on.

Along with his resume being littered with professional basketball experience in Lithuania and Australia, Ball is a savvy point guard that brings a creative approach to every possession.

As he develops his jumper and shot taking behind Curry and Klay Thompson, Ball would provide Steve Kerr’s rotation with a devastating playmaker to run with Eric Paschall in the second unit.

In USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire draft big board, Ball is listed as the No. 1 overall player in Bryan Kalbrosky’s top-100. According to Kalbrosky, Ball has “the most potential” for all prospects in the 2020 class.

Via Rookie Wire:

LaMelo Ball, due to his unique size blending with insane playmaking and court vision, arguably has the most potential of all players in the 2020 NBA Draft. He has a real chance to be the face of a franchise, especially if his jump shot becomes more efficient, which gives him just a slight edge over anyone else for the top spot in this class.

While there’s a chance Ball could be off the board by the time Myers and Kerr are on the clock next Thursday, the Warriors are taking the proper research steps in the final stages of draft season.

Report: Warriors ‘would likely’ draft Georgia’s Anthony Edwards if Timberwolves pass on him at No. 1

If the Minnesota Timberwolves pass on Georgia’s Anthony Edwards with the first pick, the Golden State Warriors “would likely” take him, according to Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle.

With the NBA draft less than two weeks away, Steve Kerr and Bob Myers are in the process of putting a bow on the Golden State Warriors plan for the No. 2 overall selection. As the 2020 draft season enters the final stage, a handful of prospects are beginning to emerge as potential picks for the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors will have the opportunity to land top prospects like James Wiseman out of Memphis, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Deni Avdija, Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton or Georgia’s Anthony Edwards.

However, before the Warriors are on the clock, the Minnesota Timberwolves will likely take one of Golden State’s potential targets off the board with the first overall pick. Depending on what the Timberwolves do at No. 1, one player could standout for the Warriors.

According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors “would likely” select Edwards if the Timberwolves pass on him with the top overall pick in the draft.

Via the San Francisco Chronicle:

According to league sources, Golden State would likely take Edwards at No. 2 should Minnesota pass on him at No. 1.

On his way to earning the title of SEC Freshman of the Year, Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game on 40.2% shooting from the field with 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest for Tom Crean’s Georgia Bulldogs.

As he continues to develop, the 19-year-old could immediately slide in alongside Eric Paschall to form a dynamic second unit behind Golden State’s trio of former All-Stars. With his explosive athleticism and downhill scoring ability, Edwards could provide a new dynamic to Kerr’s offense.

Although his jumper has potential, Edwards could learn something from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson after shooting 29.4% on 7.7 attempts from beyond the arc last season.

If the Timberwolves opt for Wiseman or LaMelo Ball at No. 1, Edwards could be a name to watch on draft night.
