Have you ever leaked classified military documents online just to shut someone up? Of course not. That’s ridiculous — yet a War Thunder fan did it recently, UK Defence Journal reported.
If you’re not familiar with War Thunder, it’s a multiplayer vehicular combat simulator full of authentic hardware, equipment, and vehicles. As such, military buffs love it, and you can often find them nerding-out about how accurate War Thunder is on its official forums.
On Sunday, user _RED_CROSS_ got into a passionate argument on the War Thunder forums about the Leclerc Main Battle Tank, an actual French Army vehicle. It seems the squabble was over the game’s representation of the tank, and _RED_CROSS_ was adamant they were in the right. So much so that they leaked the Leclerc’s classified manual onto the forums.
Below is what the Leclerc Main Battle Tank looks like in War Thunder.
So, it turns out that _RED_CROSS_ had access to these documents because the user apparently is an actual crew member on a Leclerc in the French Army. Yes, this person leaked all this only to win an argument with a stranger. You almost have to admire how absurd that is.
Moderators on the War Thunder forums quickly deleted the documents before issuing a warning to everyone.
“Guys, it’s not funny to leak classified Documents of modern equipment,” one moderator said. “You put the lives of many on stake who work daily with the Vehicles! Keep in mind that those documents will be deleted immediately alongside sanctions. Thanks for reading!”
If you can believe it, a similar incident happened back in June. Guess this is a regular thing over there? Those moderators deserve medals.
