Knicks legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier …

Knicks legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier thought the team’s brass had forgotten about the franchise’s first title team. Can’t blame them. It’s been so long. As first reported by The Post, the Knicks announced Friday the staging of a 50th anniversary celebration of their first championship, from the 1969-70 season. The main festivities will occur at halftime of the March 21 game at the Garden against the Warriors. Stephen Curry, close to returning from a broken bone in his left hand, will get to learn a lot about the Knicks’ golden history.

“There was nothing cooking and nobody …

“There was nothing cooking and nobody knew anything,’’ Frazier told The Post of honoring that title team. “I was like, ‘Man, we got to do something.’ ’’ All the living members of the 1969-70 team are believed to be able to make it, according to sources — right down to the bench guys such as Cazzie Russell, Mike Riordan, Bill Hosket, John Warren and Don May.

Better late than never, the Knicks have finalized plans to hold a special 50th anniversary celebration night March 21 to honor their first championship team of 1969-70, The Post has learned. All the players from the Knicks’ first title team have been invited for a Saturday fete as the Knicks play host to the Warriors. The wrangling was finding a proper date to ensure the most players could attend. Last month, at least two of the former 1969-70 players were privately surprised they had heard nothing from the organization about a golden anniversary night.

Walt Frazier ‘was flabbergasted’ when Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving picked Nets over Knicks

Basketball Hall of Famer Walt Frazier would’ve like to see Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving wearing New York Knicks uniforms.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving made their decision to play in Brooklyn back in July, but people are still stunned the duo chose the Nets over the New York Knicks.

Several ex-NBA players have been among those who thought Durant and Irving would’ve picked Madison Square Garden over Barclays Center. Even former Nets big man Kevin Garnett thought Durant and Irving should’ve picked the Knicks.

Walt Frazier can now officially be added to the group. But Frazier, of course, is in a much different position than most. He played for New York — and actually won.

The Basketball Hall of Famer expressed his initial reaction to Durant and Irving’s decision during a sitdown with Rop Lep of SI Now:

I was flabbergasted. I never thought those guys would go to Brooklyn. Over the Knicks? Are you kidding me? And then everyone was saying they were coming to the Knicks, so I was really shocked when that happened.

Coming up with a reason why the two picked Brooklyn over New York wasn’t easy for Frazier either:

I have no idea. I have no … I really couldn’t figure it out because the Knicks needed a guard and Kyrie was the type of guy they needed. I think if Durant did not get injured, we might’ve been able to get him. From what I’m reading, the Knicks were not interested in taking a gamble on him, so maybe that’s why he decided to Brooklyn.

Irving and the Nets face Frazier’s old team again on January 26.
