Wagner at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Wagner at Rutgers odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Wagner Seahawks meet the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Wednesday in Piscataway, N.J.. Tip-off at Jersey Mike’s Arena will be 6 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Wagner vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Wagner ended its 2023-24 regular season by losing 4 of its last 5 games, but then the Seahawks swept their way to a Northeast Conference Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Wagner won a First Four battle in Dayton against Howard and was then ousted in the first round of the tourney by North Carolina to finish with a record of 17-16.

Rutgers opened its 2023-24 season with 8 wins in its first 12 games, and the Scarlet Knights were 14-10 and on a solid roll when the calendar hit mid-February. But RU logged a 1-7 mark after that, including a loss in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, and the Knights finished 15-17.

Wagner at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 79, Wagner 54

Moneyline

No value here: PASS.

Against the spread

Rutgers is 8-2 ATS over its last 10 home games in November. Last November, the Knights had 3 early home games that would fit as comps with this outside-the-top-200 Seahawks team. Against Boston, Howard and Saint Peter’s, RU averaged a winning margin of 25.0 points.

Coach Steve Pikiell has brought in a highly-touted freshman class and a solid core of transfers. That combined group should provide loads of good guard play, decent 3-point shooting and defense.

Expect Wagner, which ranked 353rd in scoring last year (63.7 points per game), to fall behind early and struggle to produce any significant runs against a much more athletic RU squad.

BACK RUTGERS -19.5 (-120).

Over/Under

With Rutgers playing at home and having some upside to its offensive game, look for the Knights to surprise people in the early weeks of the season.

The Over went 10-22 in RU games last season and 12-19 in Wagner contests. But the new-look Knights bring a different skill set to the table. Much is expected. In this case that includes more pace, more points.

And more value in the OVER 129.5 (-110).

March Madness: Wagner vs. North Carolina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Wagner vs. North Carolina odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Wagner Seahawks (17-15) and North Carolina Tar Heels (27-7) tangle in a West Region 1st-round game in Charlotte. Tip time at the Spectrum Center is slated for 2:45 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Wagner vs. North Carolina odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Wagner made the Tournament field as champions of the Northeast Conference. The Seahawks registered an underdog win in a Tuesday First Four game in Dayton. The No. 16 seed was a 3-point underdog in that one, a 71-68 triumph over Howard. The victory marked the Seahawks’ 4th in a row, marking the program’s longest streak since December of 2022.

North Carolina is ranked No. 5 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. The West Region No. 1 seed won the regular-season ACC title, but the Tar Heels were ousted by NC State in the ACC Tournament title game Saturday. In that contest, UNC was a 10½-point favorite but was outshot by a wide margin in an 84-76 loss. The Wolfpack outshot the Tar Heels 54.9% to 37.3% from the floor.

Wagner vs. North Carolina picks and predictions

Prediction

North Carolina 76, Wagner 56

Moneyline

PASS. Look for better relative value against the spread.

Against the spread

Wagner has played a suspect schedule, one ranked No. 361 by KenPom, and the Seahawks went into March having won just 13 games. Wagner is a very young team playing great perimeter defense of late (26.5% opponent 3-point accuracy across the last 7 games) and grinding games down to a glacial pace.

North Carolina will have a mammoth talent advantage in this one. Just as it had against 5 previous Quad 4 foes this season, games in which the Tar Heels went 2-3 ATS.

The Seahawks have won 4 in a row against the number. Perhaps the home-away-from-home Tar Heels succumb to a somewhat sleepy time slot or peeks ahead past a 16-seed. A Carolina win by 20-plus, yet still one not reaching this bar is likely enough to warrant an account login for WAGNER +24.5 (-105).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

WU games lined in the 130’s have seen the Under go 10-2. UNC ranks 23rd in the nation in scoring, at 81.6 points per game, but the Under has prevailed in 5 of its last 8 games.

When playing the faster teams in the NEC, the Seahawks have been successful in making Unders a profitable play. Both teams defend the 3-ball well and are solid enough in defensive rebounding. Those are relative matchups: The Tar Heels will still get their points, but UNDER 133.5 (-110) is worth a partial-unit play.

March Madness: Wagner vs. Howard odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Wagner vs. Howard odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Wagner Seahawks (16-15) battle the Howard Bison (18-16) in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament Tuesday from UD Arena. Tip is set for 6:40 p.m. ET (truTV). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Wagner vs. Howard odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Wagner won the Northeast Tournament to earn the automatic bid; however, it finished 6th in the NEC during the regular season, ending with a 7-9 conference record. Wagner covered as an underdog in each Northeast Tournament game, ending the season with a 14-15 against the spread (ATS) record, including the conference tournament. The Seahawks have still failed to cover 5 of their last 9 games.

Howard won the MEAC, finishing 3rd in the regular season with a 9-5 conference record. The Bison went 2-1 ATS in the MEAC Tournament and finished the season with a 12-19-1 ATS record. They failed to cover in 6 of their last 9 games. G Bryce Harris leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game during the regular season.

Wagner vs. Howard picks and predictions

Prediction

Howard 64, Wagner 59

Moneyline

PASS.

Wagner struggled during the regular season yet picked up steam during its conference tournament. Expect battling an unfamiliar foe to bring back those struggles, and avoid taking the underdog here.

Against the spread

BET HOWARD -2.5 (-120).

Simply put, Wagner is too inefficient to keep pace with Howard. Wagner’s top 6 offensive weapons all shot under 40% from the field. Only 1 player consistently averages double figures. Howard’s Harris is shooting 56.3% from the field, and the Bison have 4 of its last 5 options shooting at least 41% from the field. That efficiency should lead the way.

To start the season, many games of which were against non-conference opponents, Wagner was 3-6 ATS. Howard had covers against Cincinnati, Bryant and Georgia Tech in the 1st month of the season. Expect the Bison to be able to win and cover in this First Four matchup.

Back HOWARD -2.5 (-120).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 128.5 (-105).

Wagner does not want to play fast, and the score should represent that. It has inefficient scorers and has not scored over 66 points in 5 games since Feb. 25. Wagner has allowed 57 or fewer in 4 straight games as well.

Howard has gone Under in 2 of its last 4 and 3 of its last 6. It has allowed 67 or fewer in 4 of its last 6 games. Expect a low-scoring battle and take UNDER 128.5 (-105).

NEC Tournament: Wagner at Merrimack odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Wagner vs. Merrimack odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Wagner Seahawks (15-15) and Merrimack Warriors (21-11) meet in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship Game Tuesday at Hammel Court in North Andover, Mass. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Wagner vs. Merrimack odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Sixth-seeded Wagner finished the regular season 2 games under .500 at 13-15, but the Seahawks posted NEC Tourney wins over Sacred Heart (60-57 in a Wednesday quarterfinal) and Central Connecticut State (66-56 in a Saturday semifinal) to get to the title game. Wagner won both games as an underdog, +6 in the quarterfinal and +6.5 in the semi, while cashing the Under in both outings. As a matter of fact, Wagner is on a 5-0 Under run.

Second-seeded Merrimack won the NEC Tournament last season, but was unable to get an NCAA Tournament bid due to transition rules. Fairleigh Dickinson took its spot, and made history winning as a 16-seed over Purdue.

In this NEC Tourney, the Warriors topped Long Island 72-66 in a Wednesday quarterfinal and Le Moyne 61-51 in a Saturday semifinal to get to the championship game. They split against the spread (ATS), failing to cover as 15-point favorites vs. LIU and covering as 7-point favorites vs. Le Moyne while cashing the Under in both outings. Merrimack is 4-1 O/U in its last 5 games and 6-2 O/U in the last 8.

Merrimack and Wagner split their 2 games this regular season with the road teams snagging the win. Wagner took the first meeting as a 6.5-point underdog 71-65 Jan. 19 as the Over (122.5) cashed. The Warriors exacted revenge 6 days later, winning 60-44 as 2-point favorites with the Under (124.5) connecting.

Wagner is looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for just the 2nd time in school history. It lost its only previous appearance to Pittsburgh in 2003, falling 87-61. Merrimack is looking to make its first trip to the Big Dance.

Wagner at Merrimack picks and predictions

Prediction

Merrimack 64, Wagner 61

Moneyline

Merrimack (-310) will cost 3.1 times the potential return. That’s way too expensive considering Wagner (+245) has already proven it can win in North Andover. In fact, it’s a little wacky, but the road team has won and covered each of the previous 5 meetings dating back to Feb. 12, 2022. If anything, Wagner would be worth a roll of the dice.

AVOID.

Against the spread

WAGNER +6.5 (-102) is worth a look catching nearly 6.5 points in this NEC title game.

Again, the road team has covered in 5 in a row, while Wagner has a 5-3 ATS advantage in the past 8 meetings.

The Seahawks wrapped up the regular season with just a single cover in the final 6 games, but it covered both games in the NEC tourney so far, including a stunner over top-seeded Central Connecticut State.

The Warriors have managed to go just 4-6 ATS across their past 10 outings, and again, it lost outright as a 6.5-point favorite to Wagner at home Jan. 19.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 119.5 (-115) appears to be the best option on the board.

This is an awfully low number, and we saw 136 combined points in the first meeting in North Andover with a total of 122.5 back on Jan. 19.

Wagner has cashed the Under in 5 in a row, and the defense has allowed 57 or fewer points in 4 of the past 5 outings dating back to the regular season. However, Merrimack dropped 71 in the first meeting, and Wagner has averaged a respectable 62.5 points per game against the Warriors in the 2 regular-season meetings.

Wagner at Seton Hall odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Wagner at Seton Hall odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Wagner Seahawks (3-1) will make their way to Newark to take on the Seton Hall Pirates (2-1) Sunday at 3 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Wagner vs. Seton Hall odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Seahawks are averaging 73.8 points per game and its only loss was 77-69 to LaSalle in the 2nd game of the season. With leading scorer DeLonnie Hunt averaging 14.8 points, this is not a high-scoring team.

Seton Hall looks to get back on track after an 83-67 home loss to Iowa on Wednesday as 1.5-point favorites. After a poor showing in their 1st  challenge, the Pirates will likely take advantage of an overmatched Wagner unit. Seton Hall has 7 players averaging 7-plus points per game led by G Dre Davis at 11.3.

Wagner at Seton Hall picks and predictions

Prediction

Seton Hall 68, Wagner 53

Moneyline

PASS.

Unless you rally feel Wagner can win this game, the ML is not the play to make in this game.

Against the spread

BET WAGNER +18.5 (-110).

Seton Hall has won its 2 games by 27 and 36 points. Those games were against Monmouth University and St. Peters, the darling of last season’s NCAA Tournament. Last year does not mean a lot and St. Peters is a shell of itself. Especially after its coach, Shaheen Halloway, left to take the same position with these Pirates.

What was meant to be a walkover for the Pirates could be anything but after losing to Iowa. Wagner may not win, but it will remain close, and Seton Hall will not pull away. I like Wagner with the points. Take Wagner +18.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 133.5 (-110).

The Pirates held their 1st 2 opponents to 96 combined points. An average of 48 points per game. After a step up in competition, this number raised to 83 against Iowa. The Wagner team which comes in Sunday is to the level of Seton Hall’s first 2 opponents and scoring could be difficult for the Seahawks.

Seton Hall will keep the game slow and avoid making any big mistakes. They have talent enough to run Wagner out of the gym, but they may be happy in getting a cozy home win at the Prudential Center before heading out to play Memphis on Thursday. The Under 133.5 (-110) is my favorite play.

Wagner at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Wagner at Rutgers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (1-0) welcome the Wagner Seahawks (0-1) to SHI Stadium Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Wagner at Rutgers odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Wagner is coming into this game following a 48-31 loss to Fordham. After being up at half, Wagner allowed 34 second-half points to its opponent and ended up being outscored in the final 2 periods 34-10.

Wagner starting QB Nick Kargman went for 2 touchdowns yet also had 2 interceptions with just over 200 yards. Kargman is a transfer from Western Michigan.

As for the Big Ten Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights are coming into this game having taken down 22-21. Rutgers went into the half down 14-6 but used a strong second half to stay undefeated.

The Scarlet Knights are led by starting RB Kyle Monangai who had a team-high 78 rushing yards. Rutgers had just 110 passing yards split among 2 quarterbacks.

Wagner at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 60, Wagner 10

Money line

PASS.

There is certainly no value here. Upsets happen, and if this comes back on the board before kickoff, it’s not worth the risk.

Against the spread

LEAN RUTGERS -47.5 (-110).

Wagner allowed 38 points to Fordham, so when it plays a Power-5 program, the unthinkable could happen.

Rutgers should be able to run the score up, especially at home. Rutgers hasn’t beaten a program this badly since Morgan State in 2017, but it’s likely that this is a repeat of that brutal 65-0 beatdown.

The Scarlet Knights actually looked good with 322 yards and more than 200 of those coming on the ground. Wagner isn’t going to be able to keep pace in the trenches and should get ran over.

I’d bet on Rutgers to blow them out in this one, and the number dropped 4 points in your favor Saturday morning.

Over/Under

BET OVER 57.5 (-112).

Another way to bet on Rutgers is by backing the Over.

The Scarlet Knights went for 58 and 75 in their 2 non-Power 5 games last season. Having a significant edge in size on the offensive and defensive line, expect a strong showing that should be filled with lengthy runs.

Also Wagner’s Kargman was a three-star recruit, so he has some talent and should be able to get his side on the board, having scored 34 in their season-opening loss.

With Kargman hopefully getting Wagner a few scores, Rutgers dominant in the trenches and especially in the run game, expect a high-scoring battle.

NEC Championship: Wagner at Bryant odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Wagner vs. Bryant NEC Championship odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Wagner Seahawks (22-6) face the Bryant Bulldogs (22-9) Tuesday in the Northeast Conference championship game. Tip-off from Chase Athletic Center in Smithfield, R.I., is at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we look at the Wagner vs. Bryant odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Seahawks have come alive in the tourney, winning games over St. Francis (PA) and Long Island by an average of 24.5 points. Wagner scored exactly 82 points in each game and allowed an average of 57.5 PPG. Needless to say, Wagner will get a much bigger test at Bryant in the title game.

The Bulldogs, the top seed in the NEC, earned the right to host the Seahawks. Bryant won 78-70 at home in its regular-season finale Feb. 26 against Wagner, covering a 4.5-point number as the Under hit. Wagner topped Bryant 84-81 in overtime Jan. 6 in the first meeting, although the Bulldogs covered the 8-point spread.

Wagner at Bryant odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Bryant 74, Wagner 70

Money line

BRYANT (-190) is a little on the expensive side, costing you nearly two times your potential return, but it is a decent play if you’d like a little less stress. As mentioned, these teams split the regular-season series, so you can expect a close game.

Against the spread

BRYANT -3.5 (-122) is the play here, although go lightly. This is going to be a very close game, as Wagner comes in burgeoning with confidence. If this were a neutral-site game, or at Wagner, Bryant would have its work cut out. However, playing at home gives the Bulldogs a decisive advantage.

Over/Under

The UNDER 149.5 (-108) is the way to go. While Bryant is a strong offense squad, and defensive play isn’t exactly its forte, Wagner is a tremendous defensive club. The Seahawks ranked 11th in the nation during the regular season with just 60.1 PPG allowed.

However, Wagner isn’t a great offensive club and it averages just 69.3 PPG. This won’t be a defensive slog, but it won’t be an end-to-end game, either. In addition, both of these teams rank 314th or worse nationally in 3-point shooting percentage.
