Analyzing Friday’s Virginia Tech at Miami odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (2-2) visit the No. 9 Miami Hurricanes (4-0) Friday at Hard Rock Stadium for each team’s ACC opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Virginia Tech vs. Miami odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Hokies are coming off their 2nd loss of the season, a 26-23 home loss as 3-point favorites vs. Rutgers last Saturday. Virginia Tech dug a giant hole, trailing 14-0 after the 1st quarter and 23-7 early in the 3rd quarter before a flurry of scoring tied things up 23-23. However, the Hokies struggled against the run, and the Scarlet Knights kicked a game-winning field goal with 1:56 to go.

Virginia Tech allowed 422 total yards, 153 rushing, while also turning the ball over 3 times to Rutgers’ 1 TO. That’s not a good recipe for a win, even at home.

Miami trounced in-state rival USF 50-15 in Tampa, covering as a 16.5-point road favorite last Saturday. Miami actually trailed 15-14 late in the 2nd quarter but scored a go-ahead touchdown — and 2-point conversion — with 1:56 to go in the half and outscored the Bulls 28-0 in the 2nd half to win going away. QB Cam Ward threw for 404 yards with 3 TDs — and 1 INT — as he continues to be a great addition out of the transfer portal (from Washington State).

The Hurricanes have scored 50 or more points in 3 straight games, and 41 or more points in all 4 outings. With an O/U push vs. USF, the Over is 3-0-1 for The U this season.

Virginia Tech at Miami picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 34, Virginia Tech 23

Moneyline

Miami (-900) will set you back 9 times the potential return. That’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward for a standalone play or for a multi-leg parlay. Including the ‘Canes in a parlay ticket sucks all the value out of it.

PASS.

Against the spread

VIRGINIA TECH +17.5 (-110) is worth a look as the Hokies have the defense to at least slow the Hurricanes’ pass attack.

The Hokies have done a good job against the pass, allowing just 160.0 passing yards per game to rank 28th, according to NCAA.com. Facing Ward will be the biggest test, by far, for the Hokies D, however. The Hokies have issues stopping the run, and the Hurricanes are still good at that.

The ‘Canes offense has been a juggernaut, but the thinking is that the Gobblers will be able to slow them down and keep it within 3 scores.

Over/Under

OVER 54.5 (-105) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at the most.

Miami’s offense has been insanely good so far, going for 52.3 PPG and 605.0 total yards per game, ranked 4th and 2nd, respectively.

Ward has run amok against Florida, USF and 2 lesser opponents. But he has been consistently good, and while it is possible he could be slowed, it doesn’t look like he’ll be completely shut down. The Hurricanes will get their points.

Virginia Tech has cashed the Over in 3 of 4 games to date, while scoring 23 or more points in all 4 outings.

Virginia Tech at Miami picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 78, Virginia Tech 72

Moneyline

PASS.

While the Hurricanes (-190) are favored at home, taking them to win straight up isn’t worth doing given the minimal profit you’ll receive if they secure the victory — especially because they should win by margin.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

Considering how these teams perform on the road and at home, MIAMI -3.5 (-115) is the ideal way to bet on the spread. Virginia Tech is 0-6 straight up on the road, while Miami is a perfect 11-0 straight up at home this season.

The Hokies are 3-7 ATS in their 10 games against ACC opponents this season. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are 8-3 ATS in conference play.

Over/Under

OVER 143.5 (-105).

Virginia Tech has hit the Over in 4 of its last 5 games overall. Miami has gone Over in each of its last 5 games against a team with a winning record.

Virginia Tech at Miami odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Miami Hurricanes odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (5-5, 3-3 ACC) visit the Miami Hurricanes (5-5, 3-3) Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Virginia Tech vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Hokies racked up a season-high 48 points in a win last week against Duke. It was a rare cover, as they enter 2-6 ATS across the past eight outings.

The win was the last one for Justin Fuente in Blacksburg, Virginia as he was relieved of his head coach duties on Tuesday. Defensive line coach J.C. Price will serve as the interim coach the rest of the way.

The Hurricanes entered last week’s game at Florida State on a three-game win streak but blew a late lead to their rivals in the 31-28 loss. The good news is that the offense has scored 28 or more points in seven straight outings, and the Over is 4-1 across the past five games.

Virginia Tech at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 34, Virginia Tech 20

Money line

Miami (-280) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s too expensive for a .500 team, even one playing a team with an interim coach.

AVOID, and look to the line.

Against the spread

MIAMI -7.5 (-102) is a decent play laying the 7-and-a-hook. It has been getting consistent offensive play and a new identity with QB Tyler Van Dyke. The Hurricanes fun team and a talented offense.

They’re going to take care of business at home, and punch their ticket to the bowl season with a double-digit win. Virginia Tech +7.5 (-122) is also 2-5 ATS in the past seven meetings in this series.

Over/Under

The UNDER 56.5 (-110) is the lean, but it’s only worth a small-unit play.

The Under is 9-3 in the past 12 games overall for Virginia Tech while going 5-0 in the past five as an underdog. The offense might also be a bit disjointed in the first game without Fuente.

The Under is 12-5-1 in the past 18 meetings in this series, including 7-2 in the past nine meetings in Miami.
