Villanova at Georgetown odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Villanova at Georgetown odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Villanova Wildcats (7-7, 1-2 Big East) take on the Georgetown Hoyas (5-10, 0-4) Wednesday. Tip from Capital One Arena is at 6:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Villanova vs. Georgetown odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

While coaches like Duke’s John Scheyer have found success in their first year, Kyle Neptune and Villanova have found tough sledding in the initial stages of the year. The Wildcats — last season’s runners-up — are in danger of missing the tournament for the first time in many years. Leading scorer G Caleb Daniels (16.0 points per game) and co. will be forced to make a significant move in the Big East to make a run in the tournament again. A date with Georgetown could be just what the doctor ordered.

After finishing 2021-22 with a record of 6-25 and 0-19 in the Big East, Georgetown is now 5-10 and 0-4 Big East in 2022-23. Things are not going well for coach Patrick Ewing and this might be the final straw for a Hoyas team who has faded into irrelevance in recent years. Both teams are extremely disappointing, but only Villanova looks to be on a trajectory with any positive signs ahead.

Villanova at Georgetown picks and predictions

Prediction

Villanova 70, Georgetown 55

Moneyline

PASS.

If you think Georgetown (+360) is going to win, then the moneyline is the way to play this game, but I am not willing to take the risk for it to win its first Big East game in 2 years. Villanova (-525) needs to get things figured out, and despite it being the better team in this game, there isn’t enough value here.

Against the spread

BET VILLANOVA -10.5 (-105).

Georgetown is just that bad. It lost 80-51 against Butler as a 4-point underdog Sunday and it cannot be trusted to be competitive at this point. The spread is my favorite play in this game.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 143.5 (-110).

We saw against Butler that Georgetown can give up points, but the issue is it is not always able to score points — especially in conference play.

After scoring only 51 in its last game, I see a similar output in this game for the Hoyas. This would mean Villanova would need to get to 80, and I do not see that happening. Give me UNDER 143.5 (-110).

  • Money line: Villanova -800 (bet $800 to win $100) | Georgetown +550 (bet $100 to win $550)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Villanova -11.5 (-110) | Georgetown +11.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 143.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Villanova at Georgetown: Three things to know

  1. Villanova beat the No. 12 Texas Longhorns 68-64 Sunday, covering the spread as a 1.5-point favorite. The Wildcats were the more aggressive team, going 14-for-19 from the free-throw line while Texas was just 3-for-6.
  2. Georgetown snapped a two-game losing skid by crushing Coppin State 80-48 in its last game. The Hoyas dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Eagles 50-27, and got easy buckets while sinking 55% of their field goals.
  3. The Wildcats have beaten the Hoyas in nine of their last 10 meetings, covering the spread in six of those games. Georgetown has covered two of the last three and the home team has won five straight ATS.

Villanova at Georgetown: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Villanova 74, Georgetown 68

Money line (ML)

PASS with a lean on Georgetown (+550) since I plan on betting the Hoyas with the points. If I do play the underdog it’s only on a fractional-sized wager, which fits into my long-term handicapping strategy.

Villanova is a national title contender seemingly every year under head coach Jay Wright. The Wildcats are just too familiar with winning and are 28-10 straight up as an away favorite since 2016.

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME GEORGETOWN +11.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

First, Georgetown has a slight edge in experience since it has four seniors in its starting lineup. Plus, Villanova lost its best player from last year’s team to the NBA (Saddiq Bey) and wasn’t favored by double-digits in either meeting last season.

Second, we can fade the market in this spot: 74% of the money and bets placed are on Villanova, according to Pregame.com. The Wildcats are one of the most popular basketball programs in the country and most of that money could be square.

Finally, could Villanova be a little road weary? This will be Villanova’s sixth-straight game away from home with the first four games being at a neutral site.

Over/Under (O/U)

Villanova plays at the 302nd-fastest pace in the country and has a 3-12 O/U record in its last 15 games as a favorite. Neither team gets to the free-throw line much and they both do a good job of keeping opponents off the charity stripe.

I’ll TAKE UNDER 143.5 (-110) for a half-unit.
