Vikings young star pass catcher ruled out vs. 49ers in Week 2

Vikings WR Jordan Addison lit the 49ers up for 123 yards and two touchdowns in their matchup last season.

When the San Francisco 49ers traveled to Minnesota last season for Sunday Night Football, Kirk Cousins and Jordan Addison led the Vikings to a surprise update win in Week 7, 22-17.

Fast forward to their matchup in Week 2 of the 2024 season will look quite different. Not only will Cousins not be under center, but the Vikings will also be missing their star sophomore wide receiver from USC.

Christian McCaffrey preparing to play in Week 2 vs. Vikings

The 49ers star running back was ruled out of Monday night’s regular season opener against the Jets due to a ankle/Achilles injury.

Despite missing Monday’s regular-season opener against the New York Jets with the same ankle/Achilles injury that ruled him out for most of training camp and the preseason, Christian McCaffrey is preparing to play in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.

On Wednesday, the All-Pro rusher spoke to members of the media in Santa Clara and was asked about his potential availability. McCaffrey revealed his mentality for Week 2 is that he’s going to play.

My mentality is I’m playing this week. That’s where I’m at. That’s how I am every week. I’m not lying. I think as soon as a player says, maybe I’ll play, maybe I won’t. That’s not a good mentality to go into a week with when you’re kind of on the fence. So for me, I’m ready to go.

Watch: 49ers’ Fred Warner stops Vikings’ tush push with must-see play on goal line

Fred Warner was waiting for the Vikings edition of the tush push.

One of the most unstoppable plays of the 2023 NFL season has been the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback sneak coined “the tush push.”

With the Minnesota Vikings threatening near the goal line, Kevin O’Connell dialed up his edition of the tush push with Kirk Cousins under center. However, Fred Warner was waiting on the other side of the line scrimmage.

As the Vikings huddled around Cousins with plans to push him across the goal line, the 49ers All-Pro linebacker timed the snap perfectly and leaped over the trenches to blow up the play.
