The Broncos’ media department published a video of the team’s top plays from the 2019 season this week. Though Denver missed the playoffs, the team still had some memorable moments last season.

The Broncos started the year poorly but ended on a strong note, winning four of their final five games.

“It feels [good] to finish the way that we finished,” Denver general manager John Elway said on Dec. 30. “I think with Vic [Fangio] and his staff and what they did — I’m excited about what he did. He had a tremendous year for us and battle through some tough times.

“We had a lot of things that didn’t go our way but battled through that. I think the most encouraging thing is you watch how this team played the whole year. They played hard the whole year. That number one is the most exciting thing.”

After ending last year on a strong note, the Broncos will look to build on their momentum and return to the playoffs in 2020.

Broncos rookie tight end Noah Fant had a big year in 2019. Here are his highlights.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”ddeOY8XenR-698051-7498″]

Earlier this week, the Broncos’ media department rolled out video highlights from Drew Lock’s rookie season. Today we get a look at Noah Fant’s highlights from last season.

Fant (6-4, 249 pounds) was selected by Denver after the Broncos traded down in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, landing the Iowa product with the 20th overall pick. Fant went on to lead all rookie tight ends in catches (40), receiving yards (562) and yards per catch (14.0) in 2019.

Fant is part of a young core of players that appear to have bright futures in Denver, joining quarterback Drew Lock, wide receiver Courtland Sutton, running back Phillip Lindsay and linebacker Bradley Chubb, among others.

“[Next season will be] a big opportunity for us because we are very young and we finally have some experience as well as a young team,” Lock said on Dec. 29. “There’s time for us to build and be something super special.”

Fant will be a key piece of the team’s quest to become something special.

The Denver Broncos’ media department rolled out a highlight video of the team’s best catches of the 2019 season this week and it’s a must-watch.

Emmanuel Sanders is no longer playing in Denver but with the exception of him, the players in the video appear poised to have bright futures with the Broncos and young quarterback Drew Lock.

Denver has a Pro Bowl alternate receiver in Courtland Sutton and two young talents in Tim Patrick and DaeSean Hamilton but that won’t stop Broncos general manager John Elway from looking for more weapons this offseason.

“We’re going to try to upgrade every position,” Elway said on Dec. 30. “Wide receiver, we feel like the guys stepped up when we traded Emmanuel. They stepped up and did a nice job, but we’re always trying to upgrade. We’re trying to upgrade every position, and that would be one that we would look at too.”

If Elway is able to give Lock a few more talented weapons in 2020, fans should expect Denver’s offense to look even better next season.

Tom Brady? No thanks. The Broncos already have their quarterback.

After being selected by Denver in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, Drew Lock was sidelined for the first several months of the season with a thumb injury. Once he fully recovered and got a few weeks of practice under his belt, Lock was quickly named the team’s starting quarterback.

He didn’t disappoint.

Lock went 4-1 as a starter, tying John Elway for the most wins by a rookie quarterback in franchise history. The 23-year-old Missouri product completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards with seven touchdown passes against three interceptions. Lock also rushed 18 times for 72 yards.

Lock now appears poised to remain the team’s starter going into 2020.

“We’re excited about where Drew is,” Broncos general manager John Elway said during his end-of-season press conference in December. “[I] don’t like to show our hand, but I think it’s unrealistic to say that we’re going a different direction.”

On January 8, 2012, the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers were tied 23-23 in overtime of the Wild Card round of the AFC playoffs.

Denver led 20-6 in the second quarter before letting Pittsburgh fought back and sent the game into overtime. Fortunately for the Broncos, they won the coin toss and got the ball first to begin overtime.

Under the league’s new rules, scoring a touchdown on the opening drive would win the game. That’s exactly what Denver did.

Facing a first-and-10 on the first play of overtime, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow connected with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who was about 20 yards downfield when he caught the pass. Thomas then outran the Steelers’ defense 60 yards for a game-winning score.

It was a thrilling moment for fans in Denver and arguably the highlight of Tebow’s NFL career. Tebow finished the game with 316 yards and two TDs and Thomas ended the day with 204 receiving yards and a score.

Broncos Wire recently named Tebow’s game-winning touchdown pass to Thomas the second-best Broncos moment of the 2010s decade.

Peyton Manning once benched a WR for attempting a 1-handed catch

Peyton Manning once benched former Colts wide receiver Austin Collie after he attempted a one-handed catch.

Former Colts punter Pat McAfee, who played with quarterback Peyton Manning from 2009-2011, now has his own show and some of his best episodes feature hilarious stories about Manning.

During one of his shows last fall, McAfee told a story about when Manning got upset with former Indianapolis wide receiver Austin Collie, who failed to catch a pass after running an out route.

“It was a little bit out of his each but Austin reached with one hand to catch it and it hit off his hand and it just dropped [to the ground],” McAfee said. “Austin had been having an incredible season thus far and he put his head down and — it was probably first or second down — he jogged back to the huddle and before he got like probably five feet away from the huddle, Peyton Manning just pointed at the sideline and he said, ‘Get out.'”

Jim Caldwell, who was the Colts’ offensive coordinator at the time, tried to send Collie back into the game but Manning wouldn’t let the wide receiver back on the field. Indianapolis went on to score a touchdown on that drive and Manning then spoke with Collie on the sideline.

“I was told that if I ever try to catch a ball with one hand again, I will never be on a football field again when Peyton Manning’s the quarterback,” Collie told McAfee after speaking with the QB.

During his three seasons with Manning, Collie caught 172 passes for 1,839 yards and 16 touchdowns. He retired from football in 2016.

Broncos OLB Von Miller in San Francisco training for 2020 NFL season

Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller is already preparing for the 2020 NFL season, working out in the Bay Area.

The Broncos’ season ended on Dec. 29, just over a week ago. Six days after Denver’s 16-15 win over the Raiders, Miller was already in the Bay Area working out, preparing for the 2020 NFL season.

Miller spoke about his plans to work out in the Bay Area on Dec. 26.

“I just want to get back to San Francisco, get back on the sand, stairs and stuff and mix that high-intensity training with basic weight room training,” Miller said last month. “I want to go to Cal and like work out in the weight room and do simple football drills and stay on the field.

“I’m going to try and mix it up with the San Francisco stuff that I’ve done in the past with traditional weight room work out.”

Miller was healthy for 15 games in 2019, totaling 46 tackles and eight sacks. That marked the first time since 2013 that he ended a season without double-digit sacks. Miller will be motivated to get back to 10-plus sacks in 2020.

Peyton Manning and Tom Brady rib each other on latest episode of ‘Peyton’s Places’

Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning exchanged playful jabs with rival Tom Brady on the latest episode of “Peyton’s Places” on ESPN Plus.

On the latest episode of “Peyton’s Places” on ESPN Plus, former Colts and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning caught up with one of his former on-field rivals, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

The two quarterbacks reminisced about their rivalry and exchanged playful jabs about accusations of cheating.

“I miss the [Colts’] old dome, it was so loud,” Manning said before quipping, “we didn’t pump in noise, either.”

“Yes you did,” Brady said with a big smile. “You’re full of [expletive].”

The two QBs were referencing when the Patriots accused the Colts of pumping noise into the RCA Dome during a game in 2007. The NFL cleared Indianapolis of any wrongdoing and CBS took responsibility for the noise.

Brady then went on to tease Manning about being paranoid about New England potentially wiring their visiting locker room.

“Are you that paranoid?” Brady asked. “I couldn’t believe that.”

“I had to talk to my coaches in the shower,” Manning responded.

Manning and Brady last faced off in the 2015 AFC Championship game. Denver defeated New England 20-18 in that contest before going on to beat the Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50. Manning retired during the 2016 offseason.

NFL shares Instagram video of Courtland Sutton’s brilliant blocking

Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton deserves more praise for his blocking.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton was voted a Pro Bowl alternate this year after a breakout second season in the NFL. Most fans likely voted for him based on his 72-catch, 1,112-yard season.

The league’s players and coaches also noticed and recognized Sutton’s brilliant blocking. Last weekend, the NFL’s “Checkdown” Instagram page shared footage of Sutton blocking during the 2019 season:

Sutton plans to improve this offseason for an even bigger 2020.

“The only way you get [better] is work,” Sutton said on Dec. 29 after Denver’s season finale. “It doesn’t just happen. You just kind of have to go put the work in like I did last offseason and continue to grow, continue to become a better version of myself. Ultimately, the goal is continuing to improve on my craft and continue to improve on adding to my arsenal of weapons that I have and just growing.”

Sutton was selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft out of SMU. Over the last two seasons, he has caught 114 passes for 1,816 yards and 10 touchdowns. Sutton’s blocking for teammates has led to plenty of yards and touchdowns as well.
