A look at Alabama vs. Vanderbilt head-to-head football history

The Crimson Tide have dominated Vanderbilt in recent years.

After being ranked as the new No. 1 team in college football, the Alabama Crimson Tide will hit the road Saturday for the second time this season, as the program travels to face the Vanderbilt Commodores in SEC play.

While the Commodores are an opponent that Alabama is certainly familiar with, the Crimson Tide have not necessarily played Vanderbilt as much in recent years, squaring off only three times since 2011. Over that span, the Crimson Tide have certainly dominated as well, outscoring Vanderbilt a combined 148-3 in the 2011, 2017, and 2022 matchups.

The most recent of those meetings in 2022 came in Tuscaloosa, with the Crimson Tide defeating Vanderbilt by a final score of 55-3. Vanderbilt’s last home game in the series came back in 2017 when Alabama shut out the Commodores, 59-0.

In the overall series history, Alabama holds a 63-18-4 all-time advantage over the Commodores in a head-to-head matchup that dates back to 1903. Vanderbilt owned the early days of the matchup, but it has simply been all Alabama recently, owning a 23-game current winning streak dating back to the Commodores’ last win over the Crimson Tide in 1984.

Will the Crimson Tide continue their dominance against Vanderbilt this Saturday in Nashville?

Kickoff time, TV info announced for Kentucky-Vanderbilt Week 7 game

Kickoff time and TV channel for Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt on Oct. 12 was announced Monday.

The SEC on Monday provided an update on kickoff times for its Weeks 6-7 games, including the Kentucky Wildcats’ SEC showdown with the Vanderbilt Commodores on Oct. 12 in Lexington.

The Wildcats (3-2) and Vanderbilt (2-2) will kick off under the lights of Kroger Field at 7:45 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on SEC Network.

This year’s contest will mark the 97th all-time head-to-head meeting between the two border state rivals. Kentucky holds a narrow 48-43-4 lead in the series, which dates back to 1896.

A year ago, the Wildcats won 45-28 in Nashville, marking their seventh win in the last eight tries against the Commodores. In that game, Maxwell Hairston had not one but two interceptions returned for touchdowns. Ray Davis ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Kentucky is coming off its biggest victory of the season — if not the Mark Stoops era — after taking down the No. 5-ranked Ole Miss Rebels, 20-17, in Oxford. The Wildcats have a bye this week.

Vanderbilt started the year with an upset win over the Virginia Tech Hokies, 27-24 in overtime. Coach Clark Lea’s team has dropped its last two games, 36-32 at Georgia State on Sept. 14 and a heartbreaking 30-27 loss in double overtime at No. 9 Missouri on Sept. 21.

The Commodores host the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0) this Saturday in Nashville.

Alabama football announces kickoff time for road trip to Vanderbilt

Alabama and Vanderbilt are set to kick off at 3:15 p.m. CT on SECN.

The Alabama Crimson Tide have raced out to a solid (3-0) start before enjoying a bye in Week 4. However, the schedule gets much more difficult from here on out with five games against ranked opponents as well as the Iron Bowl.

The Tide face their toughest test of the season with the No. 2 ranked Georgia Bulldogs coming to town this weekend. It is the first home game since 2007 that Alabama has not been favored in. Even after the Dawgs come to town, the schedule in October doesn’t loosen up with a road trip to Vanderbilt, a visit from South Carolina, a road game at No. 5 Tennessee and a home game against No. 11 Missouri to close out October.

In the past, a road trip to Vanderbilt has been essentially a guaranteed victory, but the (2-2) Commodores look much improved this year with a win over Virginia Tech and a close loss to Missouri in 2OT. With the road trip to Nashville coming on the heels of a visit from UGA, it’s a classic letdown spot.

Today, Alabama football announced that the kickoff against Vandy will be at 3:15 p.m. CT on the SEC Network. It will be Kalen DeBoer’s first true road test in the SEC.

Notre Dame football 2025 safety target decommits from SEC program

This could end up working out very well for the Irish

For as much as other schools are trying to flip Notre Dame football commits, the Irish are trying to do the same.

Late Friday night, in-state 2025 safety [autotag]Brandon Logan[/autotag] reopened his recruitment. The Fort Wayne native was committed to Vanderbilt as a baseball player, but after Notre Dame offered in July, he had second thoughts.

At 6-feet and 185-pounds, Logan has a solid frame to roam the secondary. You know he’s an exceptional athlete, as the Commodore baseball team is one of the best in the country.

Logan is currently unranked by most major services, mainly due to the fact that he wasn’t intending on playing football at the next level.

If he does ultimately land in South Bend, it would be a big win for both the football and baseball programs.

Former Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse hired by Golden State

Former Vanderbilt Commodores head coach Jerry Stackhouse was hired as an assistant by the Golden State Warriors.

Jerry Stackhouse, who served as the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores from 2019 until this past season, was hired as an assistant coach by Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Stackhouse was hired alongside longtime NBA head coach Terry Stotts, who will serve as Kerr’s lead assistant.

Stackhouse finished up an incredible professional career in 2013 and started working as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors in 2015. He had a short stint as the head coach of the Raptors 905 G-League squad, and spent one season as an assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies before taking over for Bryce Drew at Vanderbilt in the 2019-20 season.

The former North Carolina star went 20-37 in his first two seasons with the Commodores before breaking through with a 19-17 season in 2021-22, followed by a 22-15 campaign and SEC Coach of the Year award in 2022-23.

However, things fell apart for Stackhouse and Vanderbilt this past season, as the team went just 9-23 and 4-14 in SEC play.

Vanderbilt ultimately let Stackhouse go at the conclusion of the season, hiring Mark Byington from James Madison as his replacement.

Now the two-time NBA All-Star will get back to the professional ranks to work with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Golden State’s young core as they look to stay relevant in the post Klay Thompson era.

Vanderbilt lands power hitting infielder from James Madison in transfer portal

James Madison second baseman Mike Mancini committed to the Vanderbilt Commodores via the transfer portal on Monday.

Vanderbilt is doing their part to keep up in the loaded SEC, snagging a commitment from second baseman Mike Mancini out of James Madison in the transfer portal on Monday.

Mancini exploded as a sophomore for the Dukes this past season, slashing .329/.419/.587 with 15 home runs, 49 RBI, and 29 stolen bases. He was the 70th ranked player in the transfer portal according to 64 Analytics.

Mancini is perhaps most known for hitting a combined four home runs on one day against South Carolina and NC State in the Raleigh Regional this past season.

The 20-year-old also hit well in the Appalachian League in 2023 – slashing .318/.438/.424 – although he is struggling a bit with Orleans in the Cape Cod League this summer.

Vanderbilt has solid infield depth but was lacking power and speed in a big way last season, and in an extremely deep SEC that resulted in a 13-17 record in conference play and a fourth place finish in the East behind Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia.

Notre Dame football offers in-state safety, SEC baseball commit

The Irish are attempting a double-flip, from a baseball powerhouse

Notre Dame football may have unearthed another gem in recruiting in its own backyard.

Fort Wayne safety [autotag]Brandon Logan[/autotag], who is committed to Vanderbilt baseball, was offered by the Irish on Friday evening. The 6-foot and 180-pound prospect isn’t ranked, but that has a lot to do with his decision to play another sport at the collegiate level.

Only two other schools have offered in football, Indiana and Iowa, again, a lower number because of his interest on a different sport. Logan could end up playing both in college, as many current and former Irish stars have, it would be a big win for both Notre Dame programs if that were to happen.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out, if Logan opts to stay with baseball or try his hand at football.

Duke football stays scorching on recruiting trail, land three-star 2025 OT Kai Jacobowitz

Duke adds OL Kai Jacobowitz to its 20th-ranked 2025 recruiting class, its fifth commitment along the offensive line in 48 hours.

Duke football has been on a white-hot tear on the recruiting trail this June, and instead of slowing down, the Blue Devils continue to keep things rolling.

June has been the month for official visits across the college football world, and the Blue Devils have taken full advantage of this opportunity to host prospects on their radar.

On Monday, the fruits of their labor were revealed again as Manny Diaz and his staff saw their 10th commitment from the month of June alone hop in the boat Monday afternoon.

Kai Jacobowitz is a massive young man, standing 6-foot-7 and around 300 pounds. His physical potential is impressive, and he’s a pure offensive tackle. Jacobowitz chose Duke over North Carolina, San Diego State, and Vanderbilt offers. He’ll have to spend some time in the weight room to continue to get stronger, but that will come with time in the weight room and more physical maturity.

Duke offered back in February as offensive line coach Jeff Norrid began to set his recruiting board for the 2025 class. The Blue Devils prioritized him and have been in constant communication since.

It took one official visit for Jacobowitz to learn that Durham is where he wants to play his collegiate football, and he made it official with a post on his social media.

With his commitment, the Blue Devils continue strengthening their hold on the 20th-ranked recruiting class in the country after an electric June on the recruiting trail. Jakobowitz also becomes the fifth offensive lineman to commit in the last two days after Roman Fina, Cole Allen, Jamin Brown, and Evan Scott all joined the class since Sunday.

Duke’s not done, and with one more weekend of official visits, Duke may add to this total by the following Monday.

Duke expected to add New Mexico State transfer running back Star Thomas, per Matt Zenitz

Duke looks to add final piece to the 2024 running back room after Tuesday reports of a potential transfer commitment.

Duke’s running backs are about to get another infusion of talent.

On Tuesday afternoon, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported that New Mexico State transfer running back Star Thomas was expected to transfer to Duke.

The transfer, who visited Duke’s campus on Tuesday according to Zenitz, will apparently pick the Blue Devils after a hard push by the Vanderbilt Commodores.

He entered the portal in April, and things have gone in several directions since then. Toward the end of the month, it was believed that new ACC member Cal was going to earn his commitment, but the Blue Devils found a new gear, got him on campus, surged ahead of Cal, and fought off advances from Vanderbilt, too.

Thomas accounted for 1,499 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns over two years at New Mexico State

Landing Thomas is huge for Duke. He’s a senior with tons of experience, giving Duke another veteran to pair with lead running back and fellow senior Jaquez Moore. Moore is the only significant returning running back after Jordan Waters opted for the transfer portal and transferred to NC State.

The Devils have young names like Marquise Collins, Travis Bates, and Peyton Jones on the depth chart, too, but if they aren’t progressing in the manner they need to, Duke can ride Moore and Thomas as they build their offense around Texas transfer QB Maalik Murphy.

Highlights from Florida baseball’s SEC Tournament loss to Vanderbilt

Here are a handful of highlights from Florida’s loss to Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament on Tuesday.

Florida baseball’s stint in the Southeastern Conference Tournament came to a quick end on Tuesday at the hands of the Vanderbilt Commodores, who dealt the Gators a 6-3 loss in Hoover, Alabama.

The Orange and Blue got a start from Pierce Coppola, who lasted 3 2/3 innings allowing four earned runs on as many hits and one walk. That was all that Vandy would need in this one, as Florida pushed a few runs across in the later innings but were unable to keep their SEC title hopes alive.

Below is a look at a handful of highlights from Florida’s loss to Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament on Tuesday.
