Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers meet in Game 6 of a best-of-7 Western Conference 2nd-round series Saturday. The Canucks lead the series 3-2. Puck drop at Rogers Place is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Canucks vs. Oilers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Vancouver is a win away from advancing to the Western Conference Finals after defeating Edmonton in Game 5 3-2, cashing as a (+112) home underdog. C J.T. Miller scored the game winner in the 3rd period, and each game of this series thus far has been decided by 1 goal.

Former Oiler Craig MacTavish writes that Miller, who has been matched up against Edmonton C Connor McDavid, “is big and strong and has a physical advantage over McDavid”. The Edmonton power play failed to score on 5 opportunities in Game 5.

Canucks at Oilers projected goalies

Arturs Silovs (5-3, 2.62 GAA, .907 SV%) vs. Calvin Pickard (1-1, 2.21, .915 SV%)

Silovs, a Latvian national hero, will be cheered on by Canucks fans and “literally everyone” from his home country of nearly 2 million people. The 2019 6th-round pick had dressed in only 9 career games before the postseason. He’s 5-3 with a 2.62 GAA and .907 SV% this postseason.

Pickard was a 2nd-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche back in 2010, and now the veteran journeyman has been asked to step up in the wake of G Stuart Skinner‘s struggles. Vancouver’s power play was 0-for-4 in Game 5, and NHL insider John Shannon called the 32-year-old “the best penalty killer for the Oilers”. He has a 2.21 GAA and .915 SV% in 3 games (2 starts) this postseason.

Canucks at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Canucks 4, Oilers 3

Moneyline

BET CANUCKS (+162).

Home ice has not provided the advantage as road teams are 36-30 this postseason. While unsuccessful in Game 5, the Canucks power play has proven that they can get traffic in front of the net and score, and at this price the suggestion is taking your chances with the plus-money.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

If you are comfortable laying the (-156) juice, backing the Canucks getting the insurance certainly makes sense. Unfortunately, we will not have any immediate potential dance partners for a parlay, as both Florida and Dallas wrapped up their 2nd series matchups Saturday.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6.5 (+102).

This is still an Edmonton team that has McDavid, C Leon Draisaitl, who is riding a 10-game point streak, and 54-goal-scorer LW Zach Hyman. Vancouver certainly has their scoring options, too, and perhaps C Elias Pettersson‘s game will get going after earning the 2nd Star in the Game 5 win. RW Brock Boeser scored 40 goals during the regular season and has registered a point in every game except 1 in this series.

Additionally, this game features the top regular season-scoring defenseman D Quinn Hughes (92 points), while Edmonton’s D Evan Bouchard had the 4th-most points (82) on the back end. While the netminders certainly both have nice stories, and their path to getting this Saturday night playoff start is admirable, these lineups have scoring options all over the roster. So I would rather bank on goals galore at plus-money.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers battle Tuesday in Game 4 of a best-of-7 Western Conference 2nd-round series. Puck drop from Rogers Place is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canucks vs. Oilers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Vancouver got back in the win column to take a 2-1 series lead on Sunday with a 4-3 win to cover as a +180 road underdog. RW Brock Boeser and C Elias Lindholm each scored 2 goals while 5 Canucks players were credited with at least 1 assist.

The Oilers scored a goal in each period in Sunday’s loss while failing to cover as -203 home favorites. Three Edmonton players had a goal and an  assist. After giving up 3 goals in the 1st period, Edmonton’s last ditch effort was not enough to secure the win.

Canucks at Oilers projected goalies

Arturs Silovs (3-0-1, 2.47 GAA, .881 SV%) vs. Stuart Skinner (36-16-5, 2.62 GAA, .905 SV%, 2 SO)

Silovs saw minimal action during the regular season, but has been the Canucks lead goalie in this 2nd-round series. He has allowed 3 or more goals in each of the 3 games in this series and has a .861 SV% in that span. He has started each of the last 6 games for Vancouver.

Skinner has seen much more action this season than Silovs and has been the steadfast goalie for the Oilers throughout the 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs, starting each postseason game. He has allowed 3 or more goals in each of the 3 games this series and has a .789 SV% in that span, much lower than his season average.

Canucks at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 4, Canucks 3

Moneyline

SPRINKLE OILERS (-210).

This is minimal value on the Oilers to win, however there is a lower probability of them covering the puck line. Each of their last 3 wins have been by a goal and each game in this series has been a 1-goal differential. Edmonton has scored 4 goals in 3 of its last 4 games while Vancouver has scored 4 or more in 2 of the 3 games in this series. Due to the low value, a sprinkle is recommended.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

There is no value on the Oiler’s puck line with each of the 3 games in this series being separated by a single goal.

Over/Under

BET OVER 6.5 (-105).

The Over has hit in each game in this series with each team scoring 3 or more goals in each game so far. The Canucks have hit the Over in 6 of their last 10 games, including 2 of their last 3 on the road, while the Oilers have hit the Over in 8 of their last 10, including each of their last 4 at home.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers Game 3 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers clash in Game 3 of their Western Conference 2nd-round series. Puck drop at Rogers Place is slated for 9:30 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Canucks vs. Oilers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Series: Tied 1-1

Vancouver is on the road after splitting 2 contests on home ice. In Friday’s 4-3 overtime loss in Game 2, the Canucks saw a 3-2 lead slip away early in the 3rd period and then the Oilers won in OT.

Edmonton leveled the series at 1-1 when D Evan Bouchard scored the game-winner 5:38 into the extra period. Edmonton outshot Vancouver 31-19.

Canucks at Oilers projected goalies

Casey DeSmith (1-1-0, 2.02 GAA, .911 SV% — 2024 playoffs) vs. Stuart Skinner (5-2-0, 2.97 GAA, .888 SV%, 1 SO — 2024 playoffs)

DeSmith last played April 26, stopping 29 of 30 shots in a 2-1 Game 3 victory at the Nashville Predators in the opening round. Primary G Thatcher Demko, who filed a fine .918 SV% during the regular season, continues to be on the shelf with a knee injury. DeSmith went 12-9-6 during the regular season with a 2.89 GAA and an .896 SV%.

Skinner owns an .814 SV% through 2 games of this series. Has only been really sharp in 2 of 7 playoff games so far this spring. As mentioned above, he has posted an .888 SV% this postseason. During the regular season, the 25-year-old Canadian posted a 36-16-5 record with a 2.62 GAA and a .905 SV%.

Canucks at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Canucks 4, Oilers 3

Moneyline

Vancouver won the Pacific Division (by 5 points over runner-up Edmonton) in no small measure due to sweeping the regular-season series 4-0 vs. the Oilers. The Canucks scored 21 goals over those 4 games, while the Oilers netted 7.

The Canucks, looking to bounce back from the Game 2 setback, has not lost back-to-back games since late March and are 3-0 on the road in these playoffs. They are 8-3-0 away from home since March 3.

Vancouver has been stingy in allowing 5-on-5 high-danger looks, and its offense is perhaps a tad undercooked due to a low conversion rate in its own such looks during the playoffs.

DeSmith’s off-a long-layoff numbers during the regular season were a mixed bag, so there is some risk/reward here. But the reward on this underdog play is solid enough.

BET VANCOUVER (+155).

Puck line/Against the spread

Better relative value on the lean side (Vancouver) can be found on the ML. PASS.

Over/Under

The Over has hit in each of the 1st two games of this series and is 6-1 across Edmonton’s 7 playoff games.

The 5-on-5 recent analytics plus an expected Edmonton power-play add-on make for just a sliver of a lean on getting this Game 3 to the 7-goal threshold. Consider a partial-unit play on the OVER 6.5 (-105).

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks and predictions.

The Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers open their seasons with a Wednesday tilt at Rogers Place. The opening faceoff is slated for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Canucks vs. Oilers, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Vancouver went 40-30-12 a year ago, posting 92 points in the Pacific Division standings. That placed the Canucks 5th in the division and short of the playoffs.

The Oilers went 49-27-6 last season, logging 104 points and placing 2nd in the Pacific. Edmonton went to the Western Conference Final where they bowed out to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in 4 games.

Canucks at Oilers projected goalies

Thatcher Demko (33-22-7, 2.72 GAA, .915 SV% in 2021-22) vs. Jack Campbell (31-9-6, 2.64 GAA, .914 SV% in 2021-22 w/Toronto)

Demko appeared to tire a bit at the end of last season, his busiest as an NHL netminder. He logged a .905 SV% over his last 14 games. Demko has been much tougher in home starts the last 2 seasons: he notched a .907 SV% on the road last season (.922 at home).

Campbell draws the start in his 1st game with Edmonton; he spent the last 2 1/2 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The American netminder recorded an .897 SV% as he struggled in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Canucks at Oilers picks and predictions

Prediction

Oilers 4, Canucks 3

Moneyline

Last season was the 1st time since 2018-19 that Campbell had played more than 31 games. He not only struggled in the postseason: Campbell logged a 3.28 GAA and .894 SV% after the all-star break and was undone mostly in even-strength situations.

His presence creates enough doubt in the big-favorite status here. However, the payoff for the underdog Canucks doesn’t cut it. PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

Edmonton has won 4 in a row against Vancouver, all by a 1-goal cushion and 3 in overtime/shootout mode.

Keep an eye on any line drift, and take the Canucks +1.5 if the price reaches -155 or better, until then PASS.

Over/Under

Vancouver figures to have a decent power play this season. It also has a couple of injuries to its blueliners, there are some questions in the other net, and Cs Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid are on the ice.

There is enough here to trigger a partial-unit play on the OVER 6.5 (-107) and a tag of -103 or better would be good for full-unit action.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vancouver Canucks (21-28-3) visit the Edmonton Oilers (35-18-2) Saturday as Edmonton wraps up its regular-season schedule. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET at Rogers Place. Below, we analyze the Canucks-Oilers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Canucks won just once in their last four outings and twice in their past 11 contests. They’re also averaging just 1.75 goals per game across their previous four contests, while hitting the Under in three straight.

The Oilers have won three straight games, including a pair of overtime wins on the road against the Montreal Canadiens. Each of the games was decided by a 4-3 score.

  • Money line: Canucks +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | Oilers -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canucks +1.5 (-135) | Oilers -1.5 (+115)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Canucks at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Thatcher Demko (14-18-1, 2.93 GAA, .912 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Mikko Koskinen (13-12-0, 3.14 GAA, .899 SV%)

Demko won just twice across his past 10 starts dating back to March 22, and he allowed 4 or more goals in five of his past seven games. He is also 2-5-0 with a 3.33 GAA and .907 SV% in seven starts against the Oilers this season.

Koskinen won four of his past five ganes, including a 25-save effort in a 4-3 overtime win at Montreal Monday. He is 2-3-0 with a 3.86 GAA and .877 SV% in five games against the Canucks this season.

Canucks at Oilers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oilers 5, Canucks 2

Money line (ML)

The OILERS (-190) are a borderline play for me, as I generally don’t like to go above my personal money line limit of -180.

Edmonton is worth a roll of the dice in its regular-season finale.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The OILERS -1.5 (+115) are a better play on the puck line at plus-money, as they have won six of the past seven outings. While each of the past three was a 4-3 victory, which obviously did not cover the puck line, nine of their past 12 wins were by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6 (-110) is the lean here. The Over connected in four in a row for the Oilers, including each of the past two against the Canucks. The Over also cashed in five straight meetings between these two teams at Rogers Place.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vancouver Canucks visit the Edmonton Oilers to open the 2020-21 NHL regular season Wednesday for a 10 p.m. ET puck drop at Rogers Place. Below, we analyze the Canucks-Oilers NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Canucks at Oilers: Betting odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Canucks +100 (bet $100 to win $100) | Oilers -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canucks +1.5 (-275) | Oilers -1.5 (+220)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Canucks at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Braden Holtby (25-14-6, .897 SV%, 3.11 GAA) at Mikko Koskinen (18-3-3, .917 SV%, 2.75 GAA)

Holtby joins the Canucks this season, and he will likely be in a timeshare with up-and-comer G Thatcher Demko. The veteran Holtby won a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2019. He faced the Oilers just once last season, suffering an overtime defeat in Edmonton Oct. 24, 2019, stopping 36 of 40 shots. Both C Leon Draisaitl (2 G, 1 A) and C Connor McDavid (1 G, 2 A) had three points against him in that one, including Draisaitl’s OT winner, which was assisted by McDavid.

Koskinen figures to draw the starting nod for the home side. The 32-year-old Finnish backstop had mixed results against the Canucks last season, going 1-1-0 with a 2.54 GAA and .915 SV%. He was actually better on the road last season, going 9-6-3 with a 3.26 GAA and .903 SV% in 19 appearances at Rogers Place, and 9-7-0 record, 2.23 GAA and .932 SV% in 19 appearances on the road.

Canucks at Oilers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oilers 4, Canucks 2

Money line (ML)

The OILERS (-115) are the play at home, as the Canucks begin life with Holtby taking over for the departed Jacob Markstrom (now with the Calgary Flames). It actually might be a bit of a downgrade at the position with Holtby getting a little long in the tooth. The Canucks haven’t had a lot of success in Edmonton either, going 2-6 in the past eight trips, and Holtby is unlikely to help turn that around.

Against the spread (ATS)

The lean is to the Oilers -1.5 (+220) as doubling up and then some is awfully tempting. But I tend to wait a few weeks and get some current season data before playing puck lines. I’d say PASS officially, but I don’t hate Edmonton laying the goal and a half.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U line of 6 is likely to be right on the number. If you go by series trends, the lean is to the Under. The Under is 6-1-3 in the previous 10 meetings, and 3-1-1 in the past five in Edmonton. That’s the bet if you want to play the total here, but I’d AVOID.
