The NBA might have a huge problem on its hands with unvaccinated players this season

These guys should really think about getting vaccinated

Just about everyone who has anything to do with the NBA will be vaccinated this season. Team staff including coaches, medical personnel, front office members and even arena security will all be vaccinated. So will the NBA’s referees.

The only folks who collectively won’t be are the NBA’s players.

At this point, 90 percent of the league’s players are reportedly vaccinated, according to a report from The Athletic’s  Shams Charania. While, yes, that is a good number, it’s still not everyone.

We’re already seeing some pretty big names come up in speculation regarding their vaccination status. Kyrie Irving is reportedly not vaccinated yet. The same goes for Andrew Wiggins. And, if that 90 percent holds up, there are certainly more.

That right there is a massive problem for the NBA.

Panthers LB Denzel Perryman says he’s not vaccinated, doesn’t plan to be

Today, linebacker Denzel Perryman told the media that he’s not vaccinated and has no plans to get it.

Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold said early in June that he wasn’t vaccinated and was still “doing research.” Whatever happened in the weeks after he changed his tune, because today he’s considered fully-vaccinated after getting his second shot on July 16.

Not everyone is going along, though. Today, linebacker Denzel Perryman told the media that he’s not vaccinated and has no plans to get it.

Perryman signed a two-year deal with the Panthers early in free agency, worth $6 million.

He isn’t alone in his obstinance. Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley has become the face of those players refusing to get the vaccine.

Sam Darnold, Christian McCaffrey decline comment on their vaccination status

The two most important players on offense this coming season will be new starting quarterback Sam Darnold and star running back Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers players are checking in for training camp in Spartanburg, today. Some of the more-prominent members of the roster have been speaking with the media.

The two most important players on offense this coming season will be new starting quarterback Sam Darnold and star running back Christian McCaffrey. The pair struck a bond over the offseason, celebrating their birthdays together and dining out in Charlotte hotspots. One thing they seem to have in common is their stance on vaccination disclosure. Both declined to comment on their status today while speaking with reporters unmasked.

We don’t know about specific players, but Carolina has one of the league’s highest-vaccination rates. They may not want to admit it in public, but it’s tough to believe they wouldn’t get the shot given how critical they are for this team and the many restrictions facing players who refuse to be vaccinated.

Players can also get fined $14,650 for COVID violations this year. Additionally, teams that are forced to cancel games due to outbreaks will forfeit and be subject to further discipline.
